A few weeks ago there was an article about teaching a computer to play chess using a bayesian spam filter. While it was kludge-y, it was a pretty good idea, and had some interesting results.
Why not try that with vision? Ditch the spam filter and use high-end bayesian analysis, feed the bayesian learning-program all of the data about different objects in a video game who edges are already defined, usually by colors and texture borders, see what you get.
I'm no expert on this-- can anyone offer ways it could or couldn't work?
You sound British. I think it's the "soggy cookie" remark. I just wanted to let you know. You know, in case you're not British you'll know how you come across online. And if you are, well, now you know I know. Or at least you know I think you might be.
And by the way mods: This is not off topic because of the following: I like soggy cookies. Halves or wholes.
Well, in rebuttal to your reply to my posting, I should inform you that this is actually a Feature for the forgetful who lose/forget passwords. MSFT must make these features known quite often, since shortly after they do so, someone comes along demanding a "patch" that uninstalls the Feature.
Internet access is not a public utility. It is, however, party to "Common Carrier" regulations, which basically dictate that you cannot censor or discriminate about the who/what uses your equipment it he/she is paying for it. You seem to allude to things like Capitalist Freedom here, but what is happening is that freedom to choose is being taken away-- the service contract is being modified wihtout the consent of those paying money for the service.
If someone has physical access to a computer, the actual exploit used is negligible. Any person dedicated to the task will find a way. It comes down to the fundamental purpose of a computer: To be used. Not to be prevented from use.
Sort of like escape artists who used to specialize is getting out of safes-- they were never meant to keep somthing inside from getting out, but from someone outside from getting in.
Army Alright rioters, please remove any glass or contacts from your bo- hey! stop that! gets hit by a rock Remove any foreign object from your body before we use the pain ray-Shit that hurt! gets hit by another rock If you do not remove the- Mother Fucker, that's my eye! army guy shoots the rock thrower Alright, again please remove any conatscts or glass from your person so that we can safely use the Ray of Pain on you!
First: Shakespeare compared to Star Wars/George Lucas's writing? Not cool man, not cool. I think thou must be geeked too much;)
Second, Hamlet doesn't much go mad as act the way a son might if he thought his uncle killed his dad and wasn't sure. (This issue debated endlessly though in Ph.D Dissertations and random other blatherings) Opelia's suicide or Pelonius's accidental murder, now those are things that knowing could spoil, or not, the enjoyment.
Centimeters? What is this obscure method of measurement?
Next thing you know, Slashdot will be giving measurements in spans, or stone throws. Hey, Slasdot! I'm in the God Damned USA here, how about some frickin inches, eh?
I don't think that an ability to travel freely through the fourth dimension would negate a person's ability to travel proficiently through the first three, which we do already with minimal difficulty, and at varrying speeds.
I bought a PSP the day they came out... and 7 games. I play constantly, and when I'm not my brother is using it, and waiting for EB Games or Gamestop to get more in stock so he can make some trades to subsidize his own purchase.
I also own a DS, and love that too. Owning both, I don't think that "x is a y killer" or that "y is an x killer" They are both fantastic consoles, only at this point the DS needs more A-list games, and the PSP needs more compelling content to match the graphics. The PSP I can forgive, this being only the 3rd week of its launch. The DS, I cannot understand its lack of more than 2-3 quality games 5 months in.
Pfh! Talk about identity theft... I'm the real John Carmack.
All others are pretenders to the throne, and will be denied copies of Quake 4, which I finished optimizing yesterday and runs at 120 fps using just 100 punch cards on an Eniac mainframe.
I have XM. I love it, although I received a notice yesterday that they were raising their fees to $13. It will now, however, include internet access to their feeds, and the premium chanel you previously had to add on for a fee.
exactly-- so why try to accelerate to the speed of light when you can simply start off by moving faster than it, thus avoiding the acceleration dilema. And then of course there's still Zeno to deal with.
Not true! Why, I know 20-30 people who's dogs did not preorder an Xbox! :P
I'm getting married to day in 5 hours and 39 minutes. this would make a perfect gift to me for any ofyou out there wanting to chip in for something!

I think Vladimir the Russian guy in Amrmagedon said it best while tryinh to fix the ship before going splat:

You, Sir, are wrong, and have obviously never played the docu-game Splinter Cell.

I get enough of these kinds of spam emails already. I don't need to start seeing this on the front page of Slashdot too.

Advantage: Life.

Please be advised that Martin Heidegger appears to own a world-wide patent on the use of hyphens to form larger word-entities.
Should you lay claim to this piece of IP, prior-art in the form of Heidegger's book Being and Time (Sein und Zeit) has a great deal of prior-art.

I poisoned my brother and married his widow after I read Hamlet.
1 cent/song. 250+ million songs. 2.5+ million $$$ profit. Low margins + high volume == good deal for apple. Economies of scale win again.
Steve Jobs: One mouse button should be enough for anyone.
You-know-who was much further off with his prediction though...

how would that crush the user's karma? Isn't funny positive? Or do I have it wrong?
