all the lovely details on the official response to this merger. The story broke this morning and not an hour later Mel Karmazin (Sirius CEO) had a response out. Its up to you to decide if that's spin control or the truth.
I assume that device was just a knockoff, but its still interesting to see the name being used. Here in the US there is such a demand for "retro" gear that such a player MIGHT just work. I see tons of 13-15 year olds with nintendo and atari gear, which they would never have even played before.
Everyone claims that the next ipod killer is around the corner, but they forget that most people who buy an ipod aren't doing so for feature sets. I know 10 year olds who want an ipod. Why? Because everyone else has one. They won't buy another brand because it holds 2000 more songs or has an FM tuner.(note: ogg support is one of thes non-mainstream features) Until apple makes a mistake (ugly design, WAY overpriced, crippling features) the demand for anything else will never come close. Truth is, the ipod isn't all that expensive for what you get, most other companies are right around the same price point, it just works for anyone no matter how technically challenged, and it fits the needs of almost everyone in the target demographics.
Plus you can't sell new copies of old games if the console plays the originals. Just wait, you'll see a Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow cart come out with "updated graphics" and wifi network play for $30 someday soon.
So you open up the contests to anyone who wants to try to win a billion dollar contract and you have all sorts of legal trouble when someone dies along the way.
You know there's always that one guy ruining everything for the rest of us...
Funny, Here in Los Angeles I heard a radio commercial this morning around 11:30am where Alex Trebek kept talking about how "Amazing" Ken Jenning's run has been, followed by an enticing "Will he continue his amazing streak?Watch tonight to see what happens"
Also NPR had a small blurb on their Talk of The Nation show about how the stream "may" be over, this was also earlier in the day:
I too remember this being true, and in fact the last time I drove from California to Texas I was passing trucks all night long. However when I made the trip this last time I believe Arizona and New Mexico removed their truck speed limits and only Texas has a night speed limit, so I found myself constantly being passed *at 75mph* by semi's all through the night-not a particularly comfortable situation.
I'd assume so, as you could certainly change the skins in any modern game (HL, GTA, etc.) to display the Dubya. It is however one thing to mod a game for a realistic assination experience and another to release one ready to go entirely. I'd say market pressure would be enough to end the life of any such title, however that could just be an optimistic view of the state of the nation on my part coupled with a hope that speech is still relativly free.
While I personally don't agree with the product, I certainly hope this doesn't turn into another campaign against video game violence. It may however, since that this comes out during a time when people still lived through the event in question, yet the audience is clearly a newer generation. Shameless, yes. Outlaw it? nope.
Well, having had a tivo for the last 4 years this doesn't seem all that bad to me. First of all, we're talking about a very short fast forward time. The fastest FF is 60x which means that 3 minutes of commercials would take 3 seconds to skip. Think of the tradeoff here, 3 seconds of static ads, or 3 minutes of wasted time?
If you don't want to see them while ff'ding you could just watch the real commercials. There is no free lunch.

Wow, He should have spent some of those millions on a new jacket. Or maybe he's just that hip and he bought it since retro 80's gear is hot right now.
I wholehardetly agree to this point. In fact, its getting to be that I no longer consider any other factor than if a coaster can beat X. Its just that good of a ride. It the dark at night or first thing in the morning, you just get off thinking "what the hell just happened?" Add to that all of the rides that used to make magic so great (batman, viper, colosus, maybe even goliath) and throw in scream and deja vu(best ride in the front seat) just for the hell of it, nothing beats it. Plus they got room to grow even more.
What does this mean? Well couple it with the paper ballot trail Arney signed today, and California, that hippie liberal, commie state has put a major dent into the problems associated with electronic touchscreen voting. I was holding out to use the new machines, and even though I am registered as a permanent absentee ballot voter, I might change that now that there's a good reason to actually encourage other states to use the systems.
So, yeah. If you don't wanna occasionally ride a bike or pedal a car, even though it's better for everyone on the entire planet, then you are lazy as well as selfish.
Lemme guess, you're new to the United States. Welcome.
I'd have to agree here. But then again the tv might sell. People are suckers for numbers, thats why last years 330x Digital Zoom camcorders now say 990x.
At 990x you're looking at less than one pixel, but a salesman last month was toating it as "the best zoom you can get."
I'd venture to guess the small run is because they can't get drives in volume. When they first came out people were ripping the 4GB drive out of the ipod mini and selling it on ebay for almost $100 more than the player cost alone. Apple has to be purchasing a massive quantity of these drives to get a discount that heavy. Rio is likey looking for a more stable supplier, or unable to buy the drives cheap enough yet, and so is limiting the run to limit losses.
Have you even seen the film? Tom Green can walk and skateboard just fine, his girlfriend in the movie is the one who builds the wheelchair. And its an awesome movie, you just have to get his kinda of humor. I die laughing everytime I see it.
Was it just me or did that guy in the video put that UMD disc into the PSP while it was "playing" another game? Would that mean all we're seeing here is a nice tft screen displaying a video feed (which is what I was suspecting all along)?
Why is it people expect to be anonymous online still? If you want to interact with people and have them know your name, birthday, address, etc then that's up to you. However no one is stopping you from using a fake last name/address/bday and still interacting on the same level.
Why is it people put personal data in obvious places, and then get mad when someone shows how easy it is to discover that data.
a. got green-lighted
b. is still running successfully
c. has hosts who haven't killed themselves.
seriously, its one of the funniest shows I've EVER seen, only because its so obviously bad and pretends is not.

Yea but that $60,000CDN is like $120,000 USD.

For Slashdot thats a pretty decent response time.
Roulette Scam
Amazing that they did get to keep the cash, at least slashdot kept up on a story for once.

Sadly in some American cities the kid could be 5 or 6 and their parent still wouldn't be old enough to buy the game.

So....how do the people in this sparsly populated area with no phone lines find out about this service?
