  1. SugarCRM sells support for its product on Build Your Business With Open Source · · Score: 2, Insightful

That's what you're buying, and yes you are correct about corporate people not being tech saavy.

My dad is the best example. He doesn't want to bother with do-it-yourself or free software because in reality, it's cheaper for him to buy something with support than it is to get something for free and it may not work exactly.

Of course I load up his work computer with firefox, thunderbird etc, but when it comes to his website, he'd be more interested in a company that would do everything for him, which is the right thing to do since he charges his customers $100+ an hour.

If Deus Ex 3 would continue going towards the direction of Deus Ex 2 then this is what you'd have:

    • One "unified gun" that fits all purposes (detachable hand gun, sniper rifle, automatic rifle, grenade launcher etc).
    • Open gameplay in a 10'x10'x10' room where everything is possible, although if you go to the next room you have to load it into memory because of xbox 360, ps3, ps2, ps1, gamecube, psp, atari2600, mac, bsd lowest common denominator dependencies (or in market speak: A multi-platform shooter aimed at a wide audience).
    • More perpetual darkness with no concept of day time, because the invisble war terrorists decided to incinerate the sun with some nanotech sun obliterator.
    • You can finish the game in 5 minutes.
    • The game takes 15 minutes to load up.
    • You need 2 SLI geforce 7800's running at 800x600 to play the game.

Yeah. Something like that. *fires up DX1 while still being bitter*.

Maybe he should go back on Windows, and because of bitter guys like you ruining his day, he can help the fight against linux.

I think Postal 2 comes close to that, although it's not as fun.

  5. The standard reply to this: on Bully To Blacken Rockstar's Other Eye? · · Score: 1

    Is....*drum roll*

In a movie, you're watching actors play the parts. In a game, you are playing the part. So Catholics and Christians could potentially say "This game is evil because you're allowed to beat on Jesus", especially if you get points or some sort of reward for beating on Jesus. And honestly, I could see their point for the game not being appropriate (i.e. it'd be just like a game where you're a nazi and you get to execute jewish people).

However, regardless of the innappropriate nature, I personally would not want something like that to be banned simply because it upsets people, because then it would just set a precedent and you would have people telling you what's appropriate and what's not.

Actually, my gf is very much against this whole hot coffee scandal, and we don't agree with each others point of view, but she did mention one thing that was interesting:

If GTA:SA had rabbis and jewish people, or other obvious minorities, then those people would be up in arms over racism (i.e. Hatians & Vice City), but the same is not true when women are being objectified and you're rewarded for beating down a prostitute.

A lot of phones out there seem to only be programmable from the telecommunications company. Want a phone number blocked? The company will do it for a price. Where's the programmable consumer product that handles 1-800 numbers, or private numbers (all that's customizable by the end user) and takes them differently, whether it's to have them just ring once, or automatically pick it up to leave a message of no more than 10 second length (to give a call back number, name, and organization)...so basically spam filters for the phone. Where are these products? I haven't heard about them, so if they are around, the marketting is not being done properly! Where the hell is my cell phone that manages my minutes so that it alerts me EXACTLY how much my phone bill will be whenever I press a button, and the amount of minutes I used between the hours of 8am - 6pm? To reiterate, the telephone and mobile phones in this day and age are ancient technology and there is a huge market for products that empower the consumer.

It would take some sort of parent lobby group to do that (and then it would already be too late). 12-17 year olds would get that game one way or another, whether it's through older brothers, cousins, other family members, older friends, copies etc.
