  1. A lot for their money? on Microsoft Sides With Nintendo Against Sony · · Score: 1

I not so sure about that. My guess is that we won't see a marginal difference between the 360 and ps3 graphics until a few years down the road. And what percentage of this outrageously high price comes from sony's insistance of putting a blue ray drive into that thing? A game on a blue ray media will be better because of what again?

I'm almost at the end of the game (13th colossus defeated) and, despite some moment of pure aweness, the lack of good control of the character, the bad camera angles just when you are in the heat of the action, mixed with the horrible frame rate of the game definitely ruins a good part of the fun. The best game of the year can't possibly have that much defect IMO. Beside, Guitar Hero is MUCH more fun.

I've been working in this industry for a little more than a year now, and it has been a pleasant experience so far. I did overtime quite a lot at the begining (I arrive at the end of a project), but after that it wasn't too bad. A little bit here and there, but nothing serious. I have the choice to be paid or to take more paid vacations for the extra work, witch is very nice. Coding wise, it's not like I do really complexe stuff since I'm still relatively new. I did learn *alot* thought

Of course the real problem here is to find the fricking place where it's like that. Forget about EA, Ubisoft, most japanese company... in other words, be prepare to work at a smaller place doing average games. It's sad, but if you are willing to do so in order to work at a place with a human approach to coding games, you will be gaining experience and then, *maybe* in a few years when the industry will *maybe* have changed a bit, you'll be working on better games at another company with the same human values.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is that it is possible to work in this industry while still having a real life on the side. You won't be making Half Life 3 thought.

There is an absolute lack of original title on that platform and despite UMDs doing better than expected I dont see that as a way to gain market share. You mentionned Paper Mario. I think I honeslty never saw something as beautiful as this game. Because of the lack of a real 3d environnement (it's more of a 2d game) I didn't experience a single graphical glitch over the course of the game. Not once I saw a ugly texture zoomed to the max, or there was a problem with the camera, or I saw a polygon glitch...etc.

I think alot of people just need to open their mind a little and give those kind of game a chance. What you're calling kiddy, I call it beautiful and what you're calling mature, well I dare to call it immature, whether it's running your car over a pedestrian or being part of a highly specialised SWAT team of some sort, in order to kick some 'serious ass'.

You just underline the problem I have with the PSP. I bought a DS for 200 CND$, with a game and all taxes include. All games cost about 10$ less and the battery last a good 10-12 hours. I can close the lid in a hurry, the game will pause itself and the unit will fall into a low power mode, while protecting my screens at the same time. That's what I call a HANDHELD device.

The PSP, while having better graphics, cost a hell lot more if you really want to do all the things you describe.

With a 1GB stick in it, I can have a two full-length movies on it, MP3s, and even photos of my kids

A 1GB memory stick from sony cost around 150 USD$. Add to that price a good 250$ for the actual PSP and yet another 50$ for a game and you have a freaking expensive gaming machine. How much money do you really have to put into it before you began to have fun?

So, how do you figure out what version you have, to decide which codes to use? Take your Melee disk, and turn it over to the shiny side. Hold it directly in the light, and search for tiny text on the dark ring. You'll have to experiment by holding your disk at different angles in the light, until the text is visible.

Sega went under because of all the mistake they did *before* the Playstation came out. The failure of the 32x and the Sega CD led to frustration from the customers, who then decide to stop buying Sega's stuff. And then when the Playstation came out, Sega's answer was a powerful 2D system with 3D stuff hack into it at the last minute. 3 big mistake in a row is not good news for your bank account, especially in the console market, where it cost huge amount of money to fully deploy new hardware.

Nintendo on the other are not very far in terms of unit sold with Microsoft (I'm talking about world sales here) AND they actually make profit from it AND they have their insanely lucrative handheld division. Like it or not, Nintendo will still be around during the next two generation.
