You are confusing the current gen with the next gen. Not only do we have tons of great games coming out, we have 4 major choices in gaming: Nintendo, Sony, MS, and PC (this isn't even including the handheld market). Competition is a good good thing. Go back in time with gaming and you can't go very far. It was impossible to not be innovative 30 years ago because it was a totally new medium. You would have to try extremely hard not to be innovative back then. Now that things have matured, certain game genres have been found to be popular and variations of those continue to come out. But there are still innovative games coming out all the time. But seriously, who cares about how innovative a game is? When I sit down to a game, I don't get up thinking, "damn, that game was innovative". No, I think, "damn, that game was fun!". Civ IV isn't innovative, it's a sequel. But guess what, it's fun! HL2 didn't make a new genre, but it is the most fun I have had in an FPS ever. Stop focusing on innovation so much. There will be a few innovative games out every year, don't worry...Slashdot's constant whining won't change that. Just focus on all the fantastic games we have out there and the vareity of platforms we can choose from. Sure, there is a lot of crap to sift through, but there are still more great games coming out than any normal individual can keep up with.

You are aware, I hope, that people have different tastes than you do. This being the case, some games would be successful that you would not be interested in. Well, it isn't to me. I have never been remotely terminated. It's an easy way to get a game. The reality is that DRM prevents a certain amount of pirating. If they just let you download it without any restrictions, no one would buy the game, they would just get it from P2P or some site that sticks it up. Sure, there are cracks for it and people who really want it free can get it. But to the average user that is beyond their capability to figure out and they just buy the game.

You come on here spouting off on how terrible DRM is but you offer no solutions. Yeah, it's popular to cry about DRM on here and you will surely get modded up, but your post is worthless. Companies have to do something if they are going to allow you to download their software off the net or they will not make a profit. Steam is extremely user friendly and a great way to purchase a game. If you want to download games in the future, get used to this model. It's not going to get much easier than this. Boycott all the games that you want to that do this. It will have much less of an effect than if they let you download DRM free. Bah, "30,000 *valid* purchases" my ass. I bet you that a large large percentage of those were attempts to illegally use the software. You are deluding yourself if you think otherwise.

As a gamer, I am actually pretty wary of the controller. It is dramatically different. Sure, that could be good. But it also could back fire on them. I LIKE the current controllers for games. If I want something gimmicky like bongos or dance pads, I can buy those for games that support them. Having a remote control for games that typically require a lot of buttons could make it so that whole genres won't be included on the game cube. Maybe they will make some new genres, but then those games can not translate on to other platforms because they will be too dependant on the controller. That will drive business away. It's like this...there is sort of a standard right now for controllers. When everyone follows the standard to a certain degree, everyone is happy because games can be ported for all. If one just goes their own way, that is going to hurt third party development. Nintendo will just be isolating themselves more and more. I don't think they are going to die....they are a healthy company focused on profits. But I think they could lose more marketshare again. This is a big risk for them, though. You may not think that type of innovation is as important as Apple's...but really, Apple didn't do anything technically innovative. They are innovative in design and user interfaces that appeal to the masses.

Comparing Apple to Dell is comparing apples to oranges. Saying one company is more innovative than another is just plain silly. They have totally different business models. Then trying to back up your opinion by saying your organization is buying more Apples than Dells is totally irrelevant. Who cares? I really don't get the emotional attachment to tools.
