+1 ironic, considering your signature is all about personal responsibility. Apparently you're not a good enough parent to have instilled any responsibility in your kids, eh?
Well, I'm not sure this is the best method either. I almost get the feeling that it was a very spiteful "this is why we *don't* normally do this" sort of thing. I think that there should be *some* qualifications for being the debates (i.e. must be on the ballot in more than x states). However, the current rules are definitely designed to restrict it to the Republicrats and Democans. While Cobb/Badnarik/Peroutka/Nader may not have a snowball's chance in hell of winning, I will guarantee that you will actually here something from them other than Politispeak.
Mr. President, Senator Kerry, why should Michael Badnarik, David Cobb, Michael Peroutka and Ralph Nader be excluded from the Presidential debates? After all, Al Sharpton, Dennis Kucinich, Howard Dean, John Edwards, etc. were all included in the primary debates.
-Can run past 100,000 miles without major repairs Define "major repairs." I qualify "major repairs" to mean "anything requiring overhaul of the engine or transmission." My 1991 Honda has 170,000 on the ticker and I've done nothing that would be considered "major." My wife's 1991 Cherokee has 191,000 on it with multiple annoyances issues (bushings...trim panel squeaks), but nothing constituting a "major repair".
-Less rusting, even on newer cars If you keep your cars washed, waxed, and touch up those nicks and scratches, you don't really have much of a problem with rust. And that's coming from someone in Chicago.
-And finally, the ability to work on them without the need for 3 different diagnostic machines that cost 10 grand each! I'll give you this to a certain extent, however, you can usually purchase a trimmed down version of these machines that will tell you everything about your particular car for a few hundred dollars. Some places even make things that hook up to laptops. Heck, Autozone scans OBD-II for free, and most dealerships are pretty good about letting you peruse their service manuals for a bit.
I will now grudgingly admit that the Big Three have made strides in reliability and pretty much any car should now be able to make it to 100,000 miles without too many problems.
I use AIM, Yahoo Messenger, and Jabber (all via Trillian) and Jabber is by far the most featureless of the three. Where's video or audio IM, buddy icons, etc. ?
I think you mean "where's the bloat?" I use Jabber simply for the handy-dandy feature of offline messaging. I don't know if Yahoo! can do this, but last I checked (about 35 seconds ago), AOL and MSN can't. As far as GAIM being hard to use...it seems to be to be simple double-click, type, press enter. Not too much different than Trillian (which I've also used). Logging is much better too...I can search logs in GAIM instead of having to grep text files.
Well, to be fair to the cars in the '50s....if you hit a moped going 25mph, you'd probably just keep driving, completely unaware that you had just hit him. Those things were built like army tanks.
Funny, I was always under the impression that they mined lead out of the ground in the first place! So what exactly would be the problem with putting it back where it was?
Lead is mined out of the ground and is non-toxic until it is refined. Since the lead in monitors has been refined, it is now toxic. Hence why kids who ate paint chips have problems.
A few years ago some friends and I were sitting a a Bob Evans that we frequented at least 3 times a week for dinner and coffee. Our waiter was HORRIBLE that evening. Usually we got decent service, since we were large tippers, friendly, and about the same age as the wait staff (as well as being on good terms with management for not causing a scene and generally keeping to ourselves, etc.). For some reason though, this waiter (who was somewhat new) took about an hour to come back with refills for our coffee. Eventually, we ended up going outside to the pay phone (this was before everyone and their dog had a cell phone), calling the restaurant, asking for the waiter, and then requested refills. We informed the manager of this later, and the waiter was let go some weeks after that incident.
I don't think the previous poster was to abolishing capital punishment to murderer's. The previous poster I would suspect (with tongue in cheek) say "yeah kill the murderers too".
While I am for abolishing the death penalty, that didn't really come into play with this. I was more commenting on the whole "just because it doesn't affect you (i.e. virii) doesn't mean it's not a problem" aspect of things. It's the whole "not my problem" syndrome that people need to get over. Someday it will be your problem.
Technically, murderers are only a problem for one segment of the population too...namely, the segment they're merrily killing off. Just because it's not you doesn't mean it's not a problem of concern.
While working on my car, I found I needed a new O2 sensor. Headed out to Honda found out that they wanted $280 for one for my car (1992 Honda Civic VX 1.5L VTEC-E). Off to Autozone. For $59.99, they gave me the Bosch universal sensor that was listed for my car. Back home to splice the wiring into my old harness, and I find that the new one not only does not contain instructions for my particular car, but it also seems to be about 2 wires short (original is a 5-wire heated, replacement is a 3-wire). Rather than confuse my ECU into going into fail-safe mode (which it will do if it doesn't get a resistance reading across the heater circuit), I took it back to Autozone, explained to them what happened, etc.
They refused to take it back, saying "that's what our computer says is for your car, you just need to wire it properly." So I got pissed. Luckily, I thought to call Bosch and find out what their part number for my car is. After about 30 minutes on the phone with Bosch, they inform me that not only is that part not for my car, but they don't even make an O2 sensor for my car, universal or otherwise.
Still feeling a little pissed, I e-mail Autozone's corporate office the sordid details of my affair, who I talked to at Bosch and what they said. Two weeks later, I got a package from Autozone Corporate containing a brand new, Honda OEM O2 sensor.
2nd story: Doing tie-rod ends on the wife's Cherokee. Bought all 4, somehow wound up with 2 outer lefts. Package said it was correct (inner left), but the housing had the outer left number stamped on it. Thankfully, the old guy behind the counter (probably pushing 70--the kind who REALLY knows cars) agreed with my assessment of the situation and had another store courier one over to where I was working so I didn't have to run and get it.
Granted, this is 2 times out of 10 years of shopping there, and into the thousands of dollars of parts (old cars, and I don't pay people to fix things). And they always have recitified the situation to my satisfaction.
Actually, I'm not sure if banks will take seriously damaged cash.
Yes, banks will take these bills, as long as there's 3 corners, one complete serial number and at least half the second (I think...it's been years since I was a teller). All that happens is it gets put in the vault in stacks and sent back to the federal reserves to be destroyed. That's actually what you get when you get shredded money. And no, you can't reassemble it into real money again. I've tried.
Plus most cable companies around me allow you to get just the internet for a base rate.
Apparently you don't have Comcast. Bend over, here comes the Buick. $57.95/mo + $3.00/mo to rent the damn modem. Their idea of making it "cheaper" is "Well, extended basic cable is $34.95 and if you get that, cable internet is only $49.95/mo!" Someone please explain how that's any cheaper.

Nearly every OBD-II or OBD-I car will do this, just look in the owners manual for the procedure.

Plus it allows off-line messaging. Which is a sweet feature most proprietary protocols are missing.
