Simple. It could be used as an emergency device. Can't find mom or dad? You have their work, cell and her friends phone numbers. And what's better is, you can lock some phones to only dial and accept calls from certain places.
As one may say, you get what you pay for. If you need something small and uber-fast, then you go for something that's small and uber-fast. If i wanna host an internal webserver, imap and dns for my domain and my household... it'll prolly hold up fine.
If i need something to host something that intense, go with mini-atx or something.
Simple. They want or need one. Supply and demand baby.
Where would you use one? For say, an entertainment centre... or in a studio (1 room apt) or other tight spaces. I don't like having 4 full size computers under my desk, PLUS my mac. Getting 4 of these would free up MUCHO space.
Why is it so common to refer to people who live in trailer parks as stupid and poor? How about if I said 'slums'? Why is it okay to pick on rural white poor as being stupid and inbred, but not inner city minorities?
Whichever entity it is who requires it to do that. In the example the vending machine manufacturer. The difference is if they use proprietary software they need to pay all sorts of end user and modification licences on top of the work required.
Ah, but that's the trick. You go to MS, Redhat or Apple, and you wanna setup a classroom or an office, you can buy all sort of support to retrofit stuff as one package.
You can't go buy "koffice" support. At least I don't think so.:)
It's technically a convienence, after all, you could walk.
In nyc, you take mass transit, but even so, there are a bunch of people who bike to work.:)
A miniscule investment in open source pays huge dividends in conditions like these, since the technology isn't some voodoo, it's pretty basic stuff, but the market consolidation in closed source solutions have left few competitors.
Hence why businesses can't just sell software, they have to contact it out, sell support and sell custom versions. Did you know a custom version of windows runs the MTA MetroCard vending machines? Yes, they can run it on linux or whatever, but who do they pay to make it interface in certain ways?
Um, actually, not all plague. Look at oracle. They do some neat stuff with java now-a-days. They support duplication and other things which are common in the business world that just aren't there yet with mysql.
For instance. I can create a snapshot, a custom duplicate of a table for export. Mind you, it's not mirroring, since you can pretty much select what gets snapshotted via sql. Neither MySQL nor postgres support something like that yet, but given infinite time, it can happen.
For some of us, even standard decaf has a bit too much caffine. Having had a near 0% caffine intake for near a year now, the slightest bit of caffine from anything throws me off.... so when decaf turns to no caffine instead of jus a little... I'll be happy.
The slightest word from a worker's mouth on the status of the stock market in terms of purchasing, can give a hint to a stock owner to buy or sell.

The proxy'ing is simply a restrictive measure. It makes it easier to detect. Yes, you can't monitor all communications, but it makes it harder to do live communications, especially since the sound of typing doesn't say WHAT you are typing.
After hours stuff you can't prevent, but then again, after hours information is stale and is less usefull... though could be useful none-the-less.
As all hashes go, and I know, it's mathimatically "very hard", two different byte segments CAN have the same md5 sum. Longer they get, harder it is... but then again, anything is possible.. just not probable.
No, but Netflix could do a deposit thing. You get charged an extra dollar if you don't recycle your return. Even if it was a cd, it would get credited to your account. Of course, they'd have to put osmething to make sure you dont' get credited more than you were charged.
So... where's the news? Where's the stuff? Or is this some sorta vaporware news?:)
Is this like venture capital?

Not big on car anatomy, but wouldn't carrying around an extra battery, just in case, help? Jumper one battery off the other. Or if your car battery is easily accessable, swap them out?
Heh, let's see someone patent binary now. This must be the the most prior-art, that prior art can get...
Not unless you freeze it :)

I was hoping they had wives too. :\
And if you were a woman reading slashdot?

Unfortunately, it's always "easier" to go to MS.

Right after .doc was changed from a txt format to word. :(
NBC is the core company. They have a local network in many places. It too is called NBC.
CNBC, is the cable network for NBC.
MSNBC is the brainchild of MS and NBC (der). Geared more towards news.
Couldn't you use google?

Information doesn't want to be free.. it just wants to be healthy. :)
