Reading this guy's thought process reminds me of the recent book 'The Da Vinci Code' by Brown. If you like this sort of thing you should pick it up, there are a lot of codes in the book that the main charactors are trying to solve, and it is quite fun to try to beat them to it.
It is also fun to follow their thought processes, which read like this guy's account of cracking the quicksilver code.
After hearing how great the engine is for making mods, I really expected some kick-ass work to be out there by this point... I hope this jump-starts the process.
Maybe if someone recoded CS using this engine we could finally get the vast gaming majority to convince their mom's to upgrade their computers beyond pentium 400's
Before you all go crazy crucifying the Japanese for saying only we Americans would like such a game, remember a few things.
-This is based soley on a few friends of some guy we don't even know.
-I studied Japanese culture in college and it is far, far more repressed than ours. It is not socially acceptable to express your true feelings or desires. Those things are expected to be explored only in private.. hence they tend to take them to the extreme when they have the privacy (tentacle rape, etc).
All this leads to incredible amounts of bottled up tension and shame that has driven japanese suicide levels to unbelievable rates, sadly.
"Between this, the X-Prize, and multiple launches of Mars probes in the last few weeks, it looks like the space race may be heating back up?"
Stephen Baxter's wonderful book Titan starts out with the first Chinese manned spacecraft orbit of earth, which does in fact spark a new military build up comparable to the American/Russian era.
I can't recommend this book highly enough, it is remarkable to me how time and again how close Sci-Fi authors come in their visions of the future of our race.
I've heard this arguement from my bro when I tell him how much I like netflix, and for the most part it is a good one.
However it doesn't bother me when I have 5 unwatched movies sitting on my table from netflix. If I have a sudden craving to watch a movie I shuffle through them and pick one.
Occasionally I will have the odd desire to see something in a genre I don't have, and at that point guess what I do? I go to the video store and rent it!
I think a lot of people balk at going netflix because they think you either rent from netflix or you rent from blockbuster, period. Since you can keep the netflix discs for as long as you want, there is no reason NOT to run to blockbuster if you don't have something in your home already that you want to watch.
I am a movie buff, and netflix has been one of the most usefull services I've ever found on the internet.
You know, I browse at +5 and still have to put up with idiocy. How is this funny? Yes I've seen the episode, it wasn't even funny then. And to drag it up when it has no relation whatsoever to the topic and get modded up to +5.... amazing.
If you have watched the gameplay video you know what I mean. It exists within the framework mentioned countless times here, basically you run around and kill things in a spooky environment. However, the level of innovation present is nothing short of staggering, and should make anyone who has seen the demo flinch when hearing the above description of the game.
Since when could you push things in front of doors to block the enemy from coming in, or shove a matress down the stairs to block them? And since when would the enemy be SMART enough to immediately shoot open the window when he realizes the door is blocked? Birds swooping overhead, fantastic sound and interesting new weapons. Sure it isn't a revolution in context, but it proves there is still plenty to do in the genre.
I think the Sims proved that demographics are the key when deciding what game to make. They made a game for non-gamers, and it shattered sales records.
Why are most games shoot-em-ups? Because most gamers grew up on doom, wolf, and quake.
However obviously there is a huge majority of people around the world that are not being targeted until someone comes out WITH a simple, novel idea that they are able relate to without having spent their high school or college nights locked in front of a monitor or console.
Somehow I doubt I'm the only one who feels there are certain, uh, advantages to playing DOA3 at home... with the curtains shut.. and the door locked
Not sure I'd want to get THAT interactive at an arcade
"maybe you'd prefer it if there had been a 3 hour sequence where she coded up her own exploit, DDoS'd the whole matrix and pranced around in the nude saying 'marvelous!"
i smeeeeeeell DIRECTOR'S CUT!!!
they should be forced to have a real picture of themselves too so i wont ever be tricked into cybering with a horny old pervert... again

I was with a friend who was pulled over for a suposed DUI, when he had been drinking nothing but water. The police officer made him do the field sobriety test, which he completed without a problem. Then they arrested him for DUI for apparently no reason.
To fight the charge later he wanted his lawyer to get a copy of the cop car tapes that showed him doing the sobriety test. The lawyer said that quite simply the police in this area stopped using them, because it was causing them to LOSE too many cases.
Eventually the blood test came back 0.0 so the charge was dropped, but any action against the officer was more or less impossible due to lack of evidence, no video.
Is it really easier to design and build a craft to take you 100 miles above the earth and return safely than it is to track down Saddam?
You get 35 million for Saddam, only 10 million for turning into a shooting star.
What is with all these new engines rendering everything to look like it is covered in plastic.. look at the guy's hair in the first picture.
the ufo thing seems pretty wussy compared to the coverage of "The War of Jessie Wall".
I just spent 15 minutes reading the story about what happened and was intrigued.
Check it out.. read from the bottom post up, like a blog if you want it in the correct order.
The War
Don't forget the double dragon element
Shenmue rocks with tha quickness
Seattle has fog and a lot of staticy radio... maybe you should move here

Even if M$ , why would anyone believe whoever has this exploit wouldn't leak it anyway?
IF this exploit exists at all, it will either be leaked or duplicated by someone else.

War 3. Unless one of the new 'features' is: * Now with actual FUN! You can count me out.
ok some 'fart' jokes were inevitable, but we don't need any more.
oh my god... this is funny funnier still that the mods didn't even read it before modding up chimpanzee's diapers rule!
