I still remember first hearing about Slashdot from a fellow geek, way back then, and really enjoyed the stories you posted. I never forget the moment I (and all other readers) read your proposal, that was indeed a very special moment. I for one will miss your presence on this site, and hope to see your submissions trickling through the system sometimes.
Ah, yes. I actually forgot about those boxes and their complex Domain/OS. Took me a few years to forget them, but you brought the nightmares of trying to get from the default AEGIS to a stable BSD environment back in a few seconds...
How about bwbasic (https://sourceforge.net/projects/bwbasic/)? It's available for my FreeBSD system, my Ubuntu system, even MS-DOS... Sure, it might not be as über-sexy as buying a second-hand C64, but it's there for you to try BASIC programs..
Cobalt green is a translucent green pigment made by mixing cobalt(II) oxide and zinc oxide and heating. It was invented by Swedish chemist Sven Rinmann in 1780. Although it is stable and can be safely mixed with other pigments, it is rarely used because it is a weak pigment for its cost.
While the timeframe is correct, the sentence in the posting (to me) suggests it's an american invention...
Sorry for the slightly off-topic, non-american-centric post. Now please continue enjoying your duplicates^H^H^H^H^Hexiting new stories and comments;).
Google Talk was always XMPP client to server (c2s), but they started accepting open federation recently (yesterday, as far as I know) using the XMPP server to server protocol (s2s).
Not trying to put you down, but I remember a project from mid-80s that made music using printers, and they said they weren't the first to do it, but got the idea while reading about it somewhere...
Actually, it's an IANA reserved block, according to whois:

Try the Bookmark Synchronizer extension, available here. I use it all the time, and it works flawlessly. Supported protocols: FTP and HTTP/HTTPS (with PUT/GET, install WebDAV or mod_put for this)
You can also use this hack. if you use the technique described at that site, you only have to add a.htc file to your site, and an entry in your stylesheet to enable proper alpha for.png files, without changing the IMG tags...
I for one suffer from a Slashdot SCO overkill.. It even pushed me as far as posting a non-funny, troll-like post... I'd really like to see Slashdot go back to it's core business -- news for nerds, stuff that matters.
That was exactly my point. This comment was just to point out it's gone to far with all those standard jokes... Why not combine them in one joke, leave it to one thread, and end it there?
I remeber reading this article on Slashdot, which covered exactly the same site... I thought Slashdot was about stuff that matters, not about outdated stuff...
4.0 RC is not a stable version, yet. The model is roughly like this: 3.4 is the latest stable release. Development is done on the -stable branch. The idea is that only conservative changes are made in this branch. 4.0 is the first release in the 4.x series, but it's still a release from the -current branch. Consider this branch to be like an odd-versioned linux-kernel: it could be stable, but major changes occur every day, so things might break. Somewhere near 4.1 the -current branch will become the -stable branch. That's the time for most people to start using it. Summary: if you want a really stable system, try 3.4. Once you learned a bit about FreeBSD, try 4.0. It's more sexy, but also more dangerous.
I'm not shocked by this. I have been aware of this a long time. I also know WC makes money out of the CDs. I don't care. Look what we (not just BSD people) get in return: ftp.cdrom.com. It's worth sponsoring that.. That (and because I'd like to support the Project) is why I have a subscription on the FreeBSD CDROMs from Walnut Creek.

Well, part of it is production costs. The rest is donated to the FreeBSD Project. Open Source projects need funding, too. And consider this: is every Linux distribution you can buy on CD made by a company that did an IPO? Who do you think released Red Hat 5.2? That was way before the Red Hat IPO. IPO has nothing to do with it, as far as I can see.

Well, he said he didn't read the entire article, so perhaps this was a way of compensating?
Can't exactly remember when I registered, but it must've been somewhere around the same time you registered ;)

I'll give you just one name to remember: McCarthy.

After reading the order-form, I noticed that the answer to your question is in there: for 1-bit operations: 2 fps, for grayscale: 1 fps.
The refreshrate, if it's anywhere comparable with the Sony Librié, will be 1.8 seconds per full refresh, or 0.5 fps.

Dude, upgrade your msn-transport. The new msntransport 1.2.8rc1 works with the new protocol...
See this pressrelease for more information.
Well, ofcourse the telemarketeers of ATA are just a bunch of mindless jerks who will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.
