Enough with people calling programmers crappy. For example, Oblivion, every says it has huge hardware demands and crashes. It is possible that they are all hack programmers, but I tend to think management is really to blame. I am a programmer, and as much as the arrogant programmers will argue, you will always have bugs in your code if it reaches a certain point of complexity. Video games are very complex and there will always be bugs. Management is in control of the QA process and they decide when to release a game with bugs.
If management and technical directors decide that X is the hardware requirements of the game, then what is the programmer going to do? I am not going to be spending my hours making my code run 4% faster on hardware below the specs set by management. I'm sure most game programmers could spend a few weeks squeezing every drop of performance out but guess what, they would get fired for wasting time. "But look, it runs on a 486!!!".
OK, so at least we did not have to pay for Steam (unless you want to include your ISP cost). But hey, even better, lets charge a subscription fee and just sit back and do nothing and every now and then throw in a new bad guy to justify the costs.
Awesome! No G4 coverage

I am pointing out the absurdity of having to use so many layers of security when an alternative OS
Well, this is called security though obscurity. A better example would be that people keeping letting their dog crap on your lawn. A firewall and antivirus solution would be like putting up a fence and security light.
Alternatively, you could move to the south pole where there are no dogs or people around to mess up your lawn.
Is Linux/MacOS really more secure then windows, is their just no one around to throw crap on it?
This planet will be exhausted at the rate of consumption.
And when our resources are exhausted the planet will blow up? No, we will still be here, and when it gets closer to resource being exhausted things will happen. It is not an optimal situation to do it last minute, but when we are truly almost "out" of oil the cost of recycling tires and leeching shale will be financially viable (just 2 examples). It is just going to get more expensive and people will start demanding that our corporate overlords start innovating when the price is right.
You must have learned how the 360 is doing in Japan in the same place I did... various comments on slashdot with no references or facts!! Only I heard the opposite, the 360 is selling less than the original XBOX.
No, the Wii is not in a "different space" I think Sony and Microsoft keep saying that to convince us that it is true. Well people, you don't have to listen. It is possible that someone could own just a Wii and be happy? YES!
My pattern had been to upgrade every 2 years, alternating between the video card and motherboard/CPU every year. Upgrading -something- every year seemed to work well with me. This year was going to be my motherboard upgrade but I have to switch to PCI-Express, so I am going to try and hold off longer because I will need to get a new video card as well.
I thought AotS was a perfect balance, and it is the only show I watch on G4 regularly. If it turns into Maxim magazine on TV then I will be very disapointed. I catch Icons occiationly, but that's it. Are they trying to be like SpikeTV? I don't watch that channel either.
I can't stand the Wendy's commerical where the college student is doing his budget, and he's lunch from Wendy's will give him 1 penny left over (that he will invest LOL!!!) because the the 99 cent menu.
Come on, there are very few places (if any) that don't have tax. I would -love- it if something 99 cents or 4.99 actually got me back a penny from my dollor or five.
Or, like Oblivion, remove content before the release of the game (Horse amror, the Orrey) and then sell it for $2 each just two weeks after the release of your $50-60 game!
3. Short turn profit at the cost of your good image!!
I'm around level 28 or so, and have very high marks for blade, marksman, and sneak and moderate marks for security, block and restoration. My strength, agility, and speed are all very high
The level scaling does work well in your scenario. If you play a bard, for example, or your major skills are non-combat you can easily get killed by a mountain lion. If you level as a result of mercantile, alchemy, and speechcraft, this does not help much in combat (the alchemy helps a little). Those 3 skills don't help me in battle, but the enemies keep getting stronger. So now as a bard I am purposely not doing any alchemy, speechcraft, and mercantile and just focusing on blade, block, and armor just so I can kill the simple animals in the field.
He was just giving an example, did you expect him to list every german car company? Besides, he wants the luxury car lines to be asscociated with his product. Not saying VW is bad so don't freak out VW lovers.
After reading gaming forums (especially the Oblivion ones) over the last few weeks I still have not decided was causes this discrepancy. I have a similar configuration to yours, 9800 Pro and an 2500+ and I think it runs fine on that hardware at 1024x768 with Medium settings and no AA.
I'm not sure if there are people out there with a combination of a terrible motherboard and ancient drivers or if it because someone puts all the settings to max and if it doesn't run at fluid 60 FPS the card is crap or the game was programmed horribly.
You now too can be the envy of all your friends, and in 3 years you can pull your hair out because TVs will only come with HDMI X-TREME DRM that will be incompatible with your player. Congradulations! Big companies win!
Gamecube games currently take the longest to come down in price. Their best sellers cost $30 where the PS2 greatest hits only cost $20. I've also noticed that it takes many of their games a long time to come down in price compared to PS2 and XBOX. You can argue quality over quanitity I guess.
They also made a killing on selling un-updated NES remakes for gameboy for 20 bucks a pop. I haven't exactly associated them with being budget oriented. I think they are just doing some smart marketing to respond to the gripes gamers are expressing about $60.
Let us not forget there were SNES and Genesis games that cost $75 15 years ago. Like I've said before, Street Fighter 2 for SNES blew me away and was totally worth $75. If they can make a game today that has the same effect, I would pay that much again.
When the GBA SP came out EB Games had a deal for an old GBA + 2 games got you 40 or 50 bucks off the SP. Not sure if that is the kind of deal you are looking for. Doesn't sound like a great deal to me, but to someone else, maybe.
Maybe I already bought the game but the NES cartridge won't fit into the PSP

This is great news, no E3, no G4 coverage!
I totally agree, this guy is just crying that MS dumped NVIDIA for ATI on the 360

1) Find a 486DX/66 with 8 megs of RAM 2) Play Quake on it 3) Call yourself an ass-faced liar The DX means FPU.
It was playable 486DX2/66 with 8 megs of RAM

RTFA - I would agree that Battle Chess II is "B-Grade"

The leaflet I got was for mobile phones, not the PSP

If I had mod points I would mod you up. "Price point" is a business speak for "cost".

Wing Commander was an Origin game.
