The 7800GS is the AGP version of the card. It believe it is slightly slower than the GT (PCI express) but is more expensive because AGP is now "niche" and the card is produced is lower volume.
I have found that if I can place my laptop where the video card vent hangs off the side of a desk, it stays cool
Are you sure you are happy with that purchase? If I spent thousands of dollars on a top of the line laptop and I had to do that to keep it cool I would be pissed.
I carried more weight when I was in the Army
I don't understand why you are comparing this to a laptop... of course you carried more weight in the Army. For the rest of us, it might just be too heavy. That's like saying I used this 9 inch monochrome monitor for 10 years and now I am totally happy with this new 12 inch color monitor.
I've only played Morrowind, but I dont remember any labrinth at the start. You were locked up in a boat, but all you had to do is walk out.

If this was the case I'm sure it would have been in the release notes or FAQ page. What happened here (I believe) was Skype and Intel had a press release that stated that you could only have 10 user calls with the awesome power of Intel hardware.
I though the only reason that CSS was cracked was because Xing accidently left a key unencrypted in their software. I know John did something, but the cat wasn't out of the bag until that happened. If not for the that mistake how much longer would it have taken to crack CSS?
Wing Commander games have been notorious for demanding system requirements. Not sure if that qualifies as "pushing" a system. But myself and many others I have upgraded thier PCs to play these game in the past. I don't remember the specs off the top of my head but I remember Strike Commander having some very heavy requirements that would not run on half the machines sold at the time it came out.
I think EB Games already guarantees that a used game will work like new. I'm not sure how long they give you. I can see this working with hardware and maybe online PC games, if at all.
I remember as a kid I was watching an episode of Full House and there was a soda can out that looked just like a Mountain Dew can. On a closer shot you could see that it the "ew" in in the name was changed to a big "O", so it looked like "Mountain Do". Kind of clever I thought, but as a little kid I wondered why they didn't use the real thing. This is the little places where advertising can help a game (or any media). But we will never get the little places. It seems like there will be a generic Mountain "Do" can or the extreme opposite where ads are just everwhere or the "Drink Mountain Dew to restore your health!" sort of thing.
The interesting issue that I don't see brought up often is the fact that assuming the media remains in tact a video game's quality never reduces over time. Sure the box and manual can get damaged, but let's just assume we are talking about the game itself. Used games will only go down in price because of lack of demand, never because the actually quality of the game changes like most items in the "pre-owned" market does.
This article should be called "Spielberg Bitten by someone who messed up in a lab". I'm not for DVD encryption, but this has nothing to do the region encoding. This is about someone hitting the wrong button and not doing and quality control.
While I would like to buy into your arguement you are a little weak on your sources. Do you have any technical specs or sources to back what your post up?
I can only think of one off the top of my head, Flashback, but why I do have the idea tons of games start with the main character suffering amnesia? I guess it is a good way to learn about the main character's past without having to sit through something like Episode 1.
I could tell they spent a ton of money marketing Serenity, I saw commerical after commerical for it. Unfortunately it was the same bland and cliche commercial I see for all movies. I can't really say how it could have been done but they needed to pass the tone this movie was something different from a movie like "Stealth" in the advertising.
How many more commericals must I watch that has the word "Adventure" in it!? "Adventure has a new name", "the Adventure continues". These ad companies get tons of money for that?!
Its not that it takes long to build a machine, it is when the machine starts to have problems a year or two down the line. 9/10 of my builds are good, but I have had machines that were nothing but trouble. If Grandma calls with a wierd error message, you can tell her to call Dell.
I have a book that lists all the "significant" events that happened on the same day as my birthday. Next virus that does something on May 4th, I'll have a something for the slashdot editors!
1) Remember when Sony released the PS1? You could say the same thing about Sony.
2) So we got duped because it had PC parts in it? I don't think anyone got really upset by that. The price has always been reasonable. I didn't know consoles had to contain proprietary parts to be worthy. "Sega duped us with the Genesis because it had a 68k CPU!!!"
3) Yes, the 360 name is stupid.
4) I am against PC ports to the XBOX after the sequel to Deus Ex totally sucked because it was limited to XBOX hardware. But why are games Playstation ports? If a developer started the project with multiple platforms in mind, it's not really a port now is it?
5) Don't go by anything G4 says. When the PS2 came out it had worse graphics than Dreamcast. Wait until the developer have time to use the hardware. The games we are seeing now contains lots of new code.
6) Crap gets advertised all the time. Its called Business.
We are often asked "Which video card should I buy?" We always answer with "well how much do you want to spend?" The inevitable reply is that everyone wants to run all the latest graphics-heavy games at high resolutions with all the features enabled, but they only want to spend $100 to $150 to do so. Sorry to say, but that's just not going to happen.
The real sweet spot for graphics is in the $250 to $300 price range.
I cannot express how frustrating this is. People, please do not spend more than $150 on video card. This is just insane. I guess we do need people like this to keep the graphics market hot by paying $300 for a card. I just hope game manufactures don't think that their games should require $300 cards.
How did the "ignorant" public get the idea that AMD CPUs "chips run hot and guzzle power"? Maybe it is because older processors did? AMD processors were not always the best and now it is AMD's burden to prove they are better now.
5 years ago I thought anything ATI was crap and only until recently acknowledged them as a decent GPU player, even long after the Radeon 9700 and 9800 came out with great reviews.
This is very disapointing, but I recommend anyone who does not have Morrowind to go pick up now. The PC version is best, because you can go get endless mods for it.
First off I feel that reselling games 100% applies to the first sale doctrine. Having said that want to address the comments comparing this to used cars.
A car will experience "wear". Assuming the game media stays is good shape the game will have contast quality. For example it will not crash more often and the visuals will not degrade over time like a used car will break down more often and the paint will fade.
(Used care propents please insert your personal stories of having the greatest used car ever and your specific model is better than a new car below. Also please post comments about your 3DFX Glide and DOS games not working in WinXP below.)
I did not say I was resistant to global warming, just questioning why humans with hummers are singled out as the cause. I also did not know that asking a legimate question means that I obviously never studied science, as I thought asking difficult questions are a mark of a science.
If we have been only accurately tracking climate for 100 years, and the Earth has been around for hundereds of millions, why are we assuming that global warming is something that humans are doing??

Nice. People complain at the length of time it takes to fix bugs in SWG, and now we have criticism about how quick an issue was addressed.

If I missed a new episode of Battlestar Galatica and my DVR was broken and I had no broadband access

The Genesis did not launch with Sonic and 2 controllers. It launched with Altered Beast and one controller. I don't remember the price though.
