I liked it too. I don't generally like Spielberg as a director, but I did like that movie. Though, I wish Kubrick had been able to do it - it would have been really awesome in that case...
I read this whole thing, can I have those 10 minutes of my life back? Thx.
LOL. I stopped 1/4 of the way through. I think you deserve not to have those 10 minutes back because you actually chose to read it all. Next time, you'll know better!
No shit! I swear to God that every fucking time I turn on the sci-fi channel that shit is playing! WTF? Would hurt them to maybe run Dr. Who again or something?
It's not just a question of adding THX. The original film that you want copied onto DVD has degraded significantly. The color is way off - everything has a blue tint and some of the film has started to decay. So, he would have to touch it up digitally to release it. Otherwise, you would get something completely unwatchable on DVD.
Your response to #5 is interesting. I hadn't thought of it that way, but you are correct. Companies really do that all the time - why does MS integrate IE into the OS so thoroughly? It's not a market-driven reason, it's not a user-driven reason, it's to scratch their itch - a device to lock people in. Good call.
Yep. Switch to Linux. You didn't really want to use that Scanmaker 6000, did you? You just bought it for decoration. And you don't need to use Photoshop, After Effects, Encore DVD or Premiere. If you're lucky, in a few months, you can cobble something together that is roughly equivalent. Of course, that's assuming you don't use 3/4 of the functionality of those applications.
Sorry, but just switching to Linux isn't a viable alternative for most people right now.
1) I guess because it was his first feature film? There is a reference to THX-1138 in all of his movies. A license plate in American Graffiti is "THX-1138". When Luke is looking through his binoculars searching for R2-D2 the numbers along the bottom contain "THX-1138" at one point. In Phantom Menace, one of the droids is numbered 1138. etc.
2) One of the most annoying things to me about the "enhanced" special editions was the music. In some spots, where he extended scenes, he just replayed the last few moments of music in the original scene, so it sounds like a CD skip. What an idiot.
The vast majority of Slashdot readers are or were just a bunch of spoiled, lazy kids. While mommy and daddy worked hard to hand them everything they ever wanted on a silver platter, they sat on the floor glued to their stupid anime videos all day.
Now, they've grown into adults, but still have the belief that everyone owes them anything they want. Thus, patents are evil. Everything should be free.
In addition to what others have suggested I'd recommend not taking too much. Do it a few times, but no more. It can give you problems later. I wish I'd stopped using it at about the half-way point of my total "career" with it.
by Jim Hogshire is a good one, if you are into poppy-derived drugs. And I don't know how you couldn't be. Unless you're allergic. What a horrible life that would be.
That's not completely true. Maya does use the GPU on Nvidia and ATI cards for particle rendering. It's been a while, but I think the way it works is you cannot use both the ray-tracer and the particle renderer in the same image, you have to composite them because of that. In fact, if you don't have a supported graphics card, you can't do particles on Maya.
I'm a bit vague on this because it's been a while, I hope I'm not blowing smoke up your ass.
It's worse than just having a gui and a browser - Windows XP Pro comes with Microsoft Movemaker installed. In fact, you can't remove it unless you use third-party software to do so. What a bloated piece of crap.
1. Turn your tv to an unused channel
2. Turn the brightness all the way up
3. Turn the contrast all the way down
4. ????
5. 1% of the dots are energy left over from the big bang. (PROFIT!)
I agree. I liked them too. Especially episode 2. The imagery in it was breathtaking at points. The music was outstanding as always (can't beat John Williams). And of course, anyone would be insane not to lust after Natalie Portman. I couldn't care less about her acting. She could stand there completely immobile and expresionless - petrified, if you will - and I would still stare at her for hours. God, she's hot.
In fact, when I first heard Natalie Portman would be in the prequels, it was like Julie Andrews going off in my head. Two of my favorite things together at last. Like chocolate and peanut butter.
To be completely honest, if they cut out every frame of those movies except for the ones with Natalie Portman in them, I would still like them. A lot!
Just think if every movie had Natalie Portman in it! I'd never leave the theater.
The only games I like are GTA 3 and Vice City. I can play those on a PlayStation 2. I don't need Windows for anything. I'd rather never have to look at anything having to do with that piece of crap OS ever again.
"government sponsored..." You lost as soon as you typed that...

I'm very high and I am still embarrassed. Well, not embarrassed, just repulsed.

Yeah right. I wish.

I used to have a sexual fetish involving the armatron.
I love the music in the Myst games.
Sure as hell is funnier than all the idiotic talking heads and pseudo-intellectual writings of Time.
I agree with you there - the idiotic talking heads and pseudo-intellectual writings of Slashdotters are much funnier.

I Hurd that.
