    It's also worth noting that my GBA SP has a dead pixel, but I just sorta accept that.

    Sony is currently not replacing PSPs for dead pixels, though the seem to be wavering on that. Nintendo will replace it for ONE dead pixel any time in the first 12 months you own it.

    They'll apparently pay for the shipping through FedEx as well, so they are trying their best to get rid of dead pixels. Sony's policy is currently "deal with it" which is kind of bad for a system that costs 100 bucks more.

    I own Zelda Wind Walker, Mario Sunshine and Mario Kart 64 and believe me, I consider them all a waste of money.

    Mario Kart 64 was not a waste of money. MK64 was a good kart racer with great multiplayer (4 player was harder if you had a small TV, but 2 player was great), impressive track design (Toad's Turnpike on reverse still is the craziest thing ever). MK64 was second only to Super Smash Bros and Goldeneye in terms of multiplayer.

    I wouldn't say that gameplay is old hat ever. Truely great concepts never go out of style. Breakout, Asteroids and crew are rereleased on every system, and people still buy it because the game play is fun.

    We'll probably see a new "gimmick" game designed to sell more expensive, one-off controllers, like the recent bongos and the whole "must have multiple GBA (and no, DSes don't count) to do multiplayer" thing.

    Ever heard of DanceDance revolution? It's not innovative at all, just to move dance pads, right?

    Wait, it's for a Sony System. They'd never resort to cheap tricks to make money.

    The real solution is for game developers to not put up with this any more.

    How would you propose they do that, if not through a union? The company doesn't care if one worker says he won't work for more than 45 hours a week, he can be replaced easily enough. If EVERY programmer walks out the front door to demand better hours, then things will get done. The only way to accomplish such a feat is to have a union of workers who agree to work together. Not every union has to send money to lobby groups, it can just be a couple guys who work their and are willing to work a little extra to represnt the employees.

    Unions are the response to the free market deciding to try and pay a horrible wage. If anyone you know doesn't work an 80 hour week to pay the rent and feed themselves, you probably have a union to thank that they needn't do that to themselves.

    Slashdot has always been a geek tabloid in addition to sci/tech news. Stick around till April 1st and watch the madness as people who expect 'serious' slashdot make fools of themselves. /. is supposed to be fun in addition to informative. You could always focus on a subsection (listed on the left on most every page) or set up filters in your user preferences to get rid of whatever subsection you don't want to see. It's really quite useful, messing with the prefernces can make slashdot however focused or unfocused you like. Try it sometime, and watch the junk disappear. You won't get as frequant updates, but you won't have to deal with stories you don't like as often.

    What better way to waste my money than to require me to pay for an Internet connection to download a movie that I paid for! Not only that but I don't get it instantaneously and I have to slow down the rest of my home network while maxing my upstream helping the content distributer not spend so much on bandwith costs.

    I suppose they would pass at least some of the savings to you as lower costs. You could download it for X dollars, but if you enable uploading, they would give you Y dollars off your purchase. Y is less than their costs of completely hosting a movie, so everyone benefits. Most people will do anything to save in the short term, even if it means equal costs over the long term in increased ISP bills.

    Killer 7 looks decent, recieved some pretty get preview style reviews, has about every ESRB violence modifier, crazy cool art style.

    Donkey Konga: Jungle Beat comes out today, with arcade style play.

    Nothing really on the scale of a Zelda game, but when in the past few years has Nintendo been about Quantity rather than Quality? I'd rather have one epic every 6 months than a conveyer belt of mediocrity.

    When a cop needs to fire his gun, it is presumably a time sensative situation. On the slightest chance the gun would fail to fire as needed, for whatever battery or interference reason, the probably results in a dead cop. 99% of the time it would work fine, but the odds in a gun fight are bad enough without worrying about the state of your bluetooth. Also, if you take a gun from a police officer to shoot him with, you are presumably within bluetooth range, as it would likely have a 3-5 meter range of transmission. Anything less increases the odds of failure to fire. Also, this would dramatically increase the costs, as such a weapon would need to be devloped first. I think the risks in a gun locking out on an officer outweigh the added safety of stolen gun prevention.

    Back to homework. Sigh.

    SSBM is as deep as you want it to be. If you want a mindless button masher, it can do that. If you want to devote a few hours to clearing the event battles, go ahead. If you spend a bit mastering the art of shielding and dodging, you are pretty much untochable against a lesser foe. For added depth, block often. Block and tap the control stick to dodge as often as you can. Done properly, it can get very annoying.

    The controls are pretty responsive, try playing as a smaller fighter and see if that doesn't help.

    SSMB is probably my favorite multiplayer ever, and it is really as close to pick up and play as you will ever get with a fighter. No 9 button combos just for a fireball, no move requires more than a button + joystick direction combo. It's complexity comes in using those combos at the right time.

    It seems you have expressed an opinion that is not in accordance with the pro Nintendo group think. We love the Cube almost as much as we love Apple. That controler is a work of art, not the content of Penny Arcade strips.

    Not every single task that you can do in a workplace can be equated to finding the triforce and saving princess Zelda.

    Sure they can. Working at Burger King? Gather the needed tools (meat, buns, etc.) to make the triforce quarterpounder, and serve it to the Ganon-like customer to save the Princess.

    Then, do it again for the second quest, slightly different (no pickles) and then the third and forth and fifth until your shift is over and you can afford to buy the new zelda game.

    Repeat.

    I've been playing video games since Super Mario Bros came out when I was 5. I've been exposed to all forms of digital violence from making lines in tetris to the madness that is Resident Evil 4. I have yet to kill any cops, steal any cars, carry a large knife to school, or launch an army of headcrabs on an unexpecting world?

    My secret? Parental Involvment. Every now and then, a parent would pop their head in the room and see what I was doing. If I had been playing for 3 hours, they would encourage me to pause / save and do something else. As years past, they slowly reduced their control.

    Violence is a part of this world, no need to shield the little kiddies from it forever. If parents do their job, kids probably will turn out fine. There are exceptions, of course, but blaming video games won't help.

MC Chris is gonna come at you with his nines now. He's the best thing to happen to rap, ever. He truely reprsents the hip hop inside of every slashdotter. This is the coolest, most hip beat ever. It is rap for those who don't like it though. He's got a higher pitched voice than most, which is typical geek.

    These are terrible things, but don't so much have to do with being religious as having large, organized religion. Usually these occur when people ignore the teachings of a religion (for example, the Christian Bible says "Love your neighbor as yourself") and try to justify it to the masses. If religious leaders weren't seen as infalliable as they often are, then the situation woulodn't be so bad. There is an important differnce between being religious (believing in God) and following a religious leader blindly, without checking to see if he practices what he preaches. The bad stuff usually happens in the latter case. I will agree that blind faith in religious leaders is bad, but that isn't true of all religous people.

    You aren't cool. Every non geek at my school with an mp3 player has an iPod. Even some of the geek types have them to be cool. CD players are still common because of the fact students don't have a whole lot of expendable income, but having a mini out on your desk means you are a cool person. Nomads or Rios just aren't as great. It's the same reason people buy overpriced clothes from Ambercombie rather than Target.

    Based on principles alone, I'd say Nintendo would much rather go with Sony than Microsoft. Neither of them really meets their standards of endurability on systems (I've seen pics of a GB Color that was dropped in motor oil and came out working, with minor screen damage, compare to PS2 disk read error after a year or two) but I cannot see Nintendo willingly being bought by Microsoft. That's about as likely as Apple being bought by MS. They would alienate their fanbase in seconds, and that's death to a franchise based company like Nintendo.
