  1. Why Bother? on Half-Life 2 Preloading from Steam · · Score: 2, Insightful

Its obviously not finished yet, so you'll probably just end up downloading it a couple times as they fix bugs, change the media, and recompile everything...

Its a waste of steam bandwidth and yours. I'd understand if it was gold, but its not.

  4. Nice OO designed game on Sims 2 Goes Gold · · Score: 4, Interesting

I wish I could find the article to link here, but I can't, I thought it was on gamesutra but I can't find it there either.

Anyway, I just wanted to comment that I read an article about how the game was designed a couple of months ago and I thought it was very interesting. Basically the objects have all the code, and the sims have minimal coding. The expansion packs (for the most part), just contained new objects with new code that the sims reacted too. I thought this was a really neat and insightful way to code the game.

  9. Interesting article until the catch at the end on Debugging in Plain English? · · Score: 5, Informative

"Whyline, has been used only to debug programs in Alice, an academic programming language with a limited vocabulary of commands to make interactive 3-D worlds, like video games."

"Adding Whyline to a different language, like Java, which is 10 times as complex, could limit how much Whyline can help. So Whyline is a very long way from getting incorporated into the world's most widespread software, Microsoft Corp.'s Windows operating system. (When asked about its own debugging efforts, Microsoft didn't comment.)"

Which means at the moment its all speculation, and only works for very simple (hello world) applications. By the time this program is useful, we'll have robots (like Millenium man), who will do all the debugging...

I disagree, the Star Wars brand is a huge drawcard. How else would you get people to play a 'dancer' class?

I've always thought that the Star Wars universe has helped to make average games really good (Rebellion), and good games really awesome (The Jedi Knight Series).

If this wasn't based on Star Wars and was based on some random universe this MMORPG would be long dead.
