Imagine if Cisco tried to pull something like this on eBay. Or how about Ford or GM? If members rent the devices and don't return them that is one issue. The CoS will get away with this because they are considered a "religion." A money grabbing cult is a better description.
Those images are not sad, they are wonderful. Images like those show hope and imagination. What's sad is looking at a generation of individuals (including me) that do not dream about exploration.
The service pack itself is trivial. The news here is not a new service pack. The news is that XP is so popular in the enterprise Microsoft has to add additional product keys. This is to be expected though because Vista has not gained widespread acceptance in business. Ok, I guess this isn't news.

From the Wikipedia Article:
"In an unprecedented dive, the United States Navy bathyscaphe Trieste reached the bottom at 1:06 p.m. on January 23, 1960, with U.S. Navy Lieutenant Don Walsh and Jacques Piccard on board. Iron shot was used for ballast, with gasoline for buoyancy.[4] The onboard systems indicated a depth of 11,521 meters (37,800 ft), but this was later revised to 10,916 meters (35,813 ft). At the bottom, Walsh and Piccard were surprised to discover soles or flounder about 30 cm (1 ft) long, as well as shrimp."
The federal government collects this money from all the working members of society, then they withold it from anyone who won't accept rules that they are not actually supposed to be able to make. That's generally considered extortion.
The "national" drinking age is yet another example. No more funding if your state's drinking age is less than 21.
I will not watch a full movie on my PC. That's what I have a home theater setup for. I already have Netflix and I'm excited because I will be able to evaluate a movie before I put it in my queue. I'll watch the first 20 minutes of the movie and decide if it is worth investing more time.
corporate reach-around. Ballmer, if you make claims back them up with facts. I know that's a hard concept to understand. If there is Microsoft IP in GPL code (including the kernel) then point it out.
It might not have been that bad if EA had reduced the price of the ad-supported game by 20 bucks or so.
I think they would be more likely to introduce an ad free version for $20 more. I preordered from Amazon and got a message saying that the game had been shipped. If this story is true I will be I bought BF1942 and all the expansion packs, BF Vietnam, BF2 and all of the expansion packs, and now BF2142. The Battlefield games are the only reason I still boot my machine into Windows. I'm hoping this story isn't true. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Microsoft does not support DVD playback for free but most PCs sold with DVD drives have playback software installed by the OEM.
Until the Great Depression, government tended to stay out of the lives of individuals. Government was only visible at the local level.
If you want to blame someone for the sustained power grab of the federal government blame FDR.
"i never buy revision A apple hardware. let the fanatics bug test the hardware."
This looks like a brand new phone and not just a new revision. 3G, GPS, new firmware, and a thinner design. Good luck with the bug testing.

Wonderful. Monster Cable hates America!!!!
How is that working for you? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Just set up an email client to connect to your Yahoo account. Make sure it is set to download to the local machine and keep the mail on the server.
That is one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time. Do yourself a favor and read the source. Here's one of my favorites:

I just had a mental image of Ballmer throwing Tux across the room and screaming. Scary. I need help.
Yes except you need to READ the readme files for them to be an issue.
