The higher price of the Wii in Europe (as compared to the US) might be explained because the shippingroute (from Asia) is longer.
I don't know if this is factually right, but I think it sounds quite plausible.
As of the looks of it, it's probably very much the same as DoomRPG, but with some added stats: DoomRPG is one of the few games I downloaded (the others being Zuma and Bejeweled), and has been worth every penny.
Check out the site for DoomRPG, to get some idea of what it was: In short, instead of playing an FPS in realtime, it's now turnbased.
Pong is almost always given that honour, allthough I recon (Realmedia vid, taken from this article) is a more likely candidate for being the first video game ever.
Let me be clear: I think micropayments definitely have a future (on consoles, as well as on the Net), but the way they are doing it now ; by making incomplete games at first, and then releasing items/gameplay-variations for money, is imho a complete rip off.
It's funny how this comment,
- The impact will be enormous. Digital distribution will allow for new ways to generate excitement for these games - from being able to purchase new game packs that extend the life of gameplay and purchasing cool new items that make your character and experience unique -
is describing game-mods in its purest form: But no, they won't open up the Marketplaces for third party mods, as it would snoop away from their own (unimaginative at least) by-products: And people would actually notice that paying 2 dollars for some random model is complete bullshit.
When the pre-Xbox360 hype was going on, it was mentioned a few times how MS would like to interact with the community (eg. hinting on being able to sell/offer (custom playercreated) content on Live), but the only interaction that I've seen until now is one-sided: MS offers, 'we' buy.
They really should have a look at how Valve's model of great mod/tool support has lead to -alot- more sales of Half-Life, as well as HL2.
It's funny how they overlooked the -other- english 'wii' sound: wee, or slang for 'piss' (in England at least, afaik):
This reminds me of a television channel over here in the Netherlands, that decided to change their name to something more catchier, and after a long time ended up with 'Yorin'. They saw 'You're in', we saw 'Urine':)
I actually liked their explanation of chosing for Wii : The video also shows it quite well.
Admittedly, Wii does sound strange (and alot like 'weeeeeeeeeeeeee':) ), but it also has something that makes one wonder what this 'wee-thing you just talked about' is.
Off record: If the Wii's can connect to eachother, would it be a 'wiiwii' ? And would I be in trouble if I told people I'm off playing with my friends and our WiiWii's ?
Er.. Almost all -commercial- creativity is limited by arbitrary restraints: Be it webdesign, gamedesign, or even that weird painter-dude that keeps re-copying his previous works because they sold.
Keeping the color (which I personally 'identify' Slashdot with) isn't one of the worst restraints one could get.
This site needs a complete overhaul, unless you want to be the only site on the Internet that looks like it was designed in 1998.
Damn, I just think I read a Pimp-my-Slashdot request: Isn't it a plus that with the 'looks' of '98, it also has the loadtimes of '98 ?
On a sidenote, I wonder why scalability (eg. mobile phone) isn't one of the judging points/requests: I would love to have a decent browsing experience on my phone.
So cool to see compartively so much in 4k (the thescene 64k demo also surprised me -alot-):
The one game that has been downloaded the most until now (Miners4k is great fun: Reminds me alot of the (a href=http://chir.ag/stuff/sand/>Falling Sand-game.
Since my phone can contain 1GB, I really enjoy not having to bring along my MP3 player anymore: It's one of the few extras I -really- use on my phone (and one, imo that makes sense).
I can't refrain from a chuckle imagining you in the morning commute, dragging along your recordplayer and soundsystem, and listening to some good morning tunes.
I don't see your problem though: Most mobile phones use flashcards for their storage, and until now I have not yet encountered one which was protected against using any of my images/sounds/music/videos.
While I think that you're right that costs of making the booklets is one of the causes of not getting such extended art with the game anymore, I also think better tutorials in-game make most of the booklets useless nowadays: and this might also contribute to them not supplying it anymore.
I am currently listening to Episode 9: And ten minutes in I can say that this random banter would -not- be worth my 7 bucks per month. It sounds more like the radio-babbles you hear DJ's do on the radio than actual funny pre-thought footage: A shame most of it isn't even funny...

Sue?! He would most likely hire them to get some better movies out :)
If I buy a game, I want to use a no-CD crack on my laptop, so I don't need to bring my CD's with me.

Not too shabby imo.
Ugh, needed to preview that: The video is of the 1953 computergame 'Tennis for Two'.
Pong is almost always given that honour, allthough I recon (Realmedia vid, taken from this article) is a more likely candidate for being the first video game ever.
You forgot one though:
*pinky in mouth*
6. Taking over the world... for one...million dollars.

Wait, did I just say that out loud ?

*cough* I'm sorry.

As the article is scarce on pics, here some more pictures of the cockroaches meeting up before making decisions. :)
Yeah, I want a nanobot Taibo runnin' around my veins!... with a webcam!
Er... an even -more- acceptible thing would have been if he said this right after the incident happened:
Not after the accountants/PR people told him.

I think the creators of the the Dual Hand Touchscreen would be a perfect entry:
Easy to say since most of the previous game-to-movie adaptions were utter shit... We're not expecting anything anymore.
IMB's ?
