    Actually, the standard right wing Christian viewpoint is extremely concise... for sexually reproducing organisms, life begins at conception, the union of a sperm and egg. That's when GOD puts the soul in there. So a woman's menstrual cycle is not murder, as the egg is not alive at that point.

    The conjoined egg and sperm don't always find a spot to attach to the uterus. If they haven't done so by the time menstruation begins guess what... they pass right on out. So if there was a life beginning, and the hardcore "life starts at conception" people have their way, women can be considered murderers simply for bleeding healthy blood. That's f'd up, yo.

    I'm glad your comment was directed toward the news media concerns. Mine was an attempt to ask you and others what would happen to everyone else.

    Since you are focused on the media, what would happen if there were less footage shot by people who just happened to be at the scene of whatever qualifies as breaking news? Even if the unprofessional footage isn't worth a broadcast, reporters can still watch the event through an unbiased recording and report on something more consistent/reliable than eye-witness accounts.

    Period. Regardless of the means of distraction. I've seen equally bad driving from people on cell phones, digging through purses/briefcases, trying to recover something from the floor of their car, and focusing out of any car window on something that isn't the traffic ahead.

I actually find it comforting that there's a good side in there somewhere. :-)

    if your body handles the acid, you'll be fine

    One of the problems with inundating your body with proteins is that your kidneys are stuck trying to filter the unused bits out. This makes it a lot harder for them to filter everything else, too - including uric acid. I'd be more concerned about the risk of kidney failure than gout.

    I once wrote a little bit more about why it's bad to cut out carbs so much. It's over here: http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=148166&cid=124 21923. The offer to explain why removing any main nutrient group would be a bad idea still stands.

    New players get almost nothing from it as far as I can tell.

    Actually, new players can use the turn-ins to gain reputation and get lots more green (uncommon) items than they would usually find as drops. As far as I know, reputation isn't especially useful unless you want to use a mount from another race, but the green items are always good to help save up some money or have better equipment.

    But you can't ignore the fact that ABS lets you steer the vehicle in a 'panic braking' situation

    Which really sucks for anyone who was taught how to brake properly in such a situation. ABS can help stop skidding if you seize up and forget how to brake or just never learned in the first place. For me the only thing it's done is jerk me around so much I lose what little control I did have in any given situation.

    I'd take a car where I could directly control the stopping & skidding over a car that suddenly jerks me around so much I lose my bearings any day.

EE's in particular get trained in the logic because it so directly effects their ability to analyze & build circuits. There's more to coding than just studying other people's neat tricks, and knowing the syntax by heart - that's what reference books are for.

    Two meanings for this:
    1. Go on a fasting diet where you don't eat food but do drink liquids;
    2. Drink more water (several more glasses per day) to your normal diet;

    Third meaning: replace your current soda, tea, coffee, etc. intake with plain water. You don't have to add more (though it might be a good idea), just replace all the other stuff you drink anyway.
