You're going to see a lot of developers holding back content so they can make you pay more through XBox Live. Here's hoping Nintendo and Sony take full advantage of the mistakes that are being made with Live. This is a great example of what *not* to do with an online service. Micropayments will be their downfall.
Can you stop sucking Rockstar off now? It's a table tennis game. Big deal. Is there going to be an article every time a sports game is made by a developer who doesn't normally make sports games.?
The problem a lot of people are going to run into playing this game is the level scaling and the way in which your character levels up.
Enemies increase in difficulty as you gain levels. This is good because you can go anywhere at any level and have challenging fights. The problem arises when you end up gaining levels due to actions that are not combat related. You don't get physically stronger, bur your opponents do. If you do this enough you will basically come to a point where you cannot kill anything without a huge amount of trouble.
The way a lot of us are getting around this is to set our major skills to actions we can control, so that we don't level up because we were sneaking around picking locks for 2 days. If you can control when you level, you can make sure your combat and defensive skills have gone up as well. This method is a real pain though.
There are a few mods in the works that fix this problem, as well as some loot problems due to the level scaling (if you explore certain dungeons at low lvls they will not have the great items they would if you had explored them at higher levels).
All in all it is a fantastic game, it just takes some strategy and patience to make sure you don't royally screw up your character.
Not really, WoW is in a completely different genre. And even if we were talking about MMORPG's, there really wasn't anything for WoW to bring back. It's not like we had a lack of good MMORPG's to play. There is no denying that WoW was hugely successful, but that was mostly because it caters to the non-mmo crowd, the casual gamer. It requires minimal time/investment to make significant progress in the game.
Anyways, the thread is about traditional PC RPG's (single player games).
I'm really happy they chose to go with the cel-shaded style for this version. Pretty much all GB/GBC/GBA Zelda games have had the LttP style for the most part. (LttP is probably my favorite Zelda next to the original though, so I wouldn't of had any complaints either way).
Well, i'm disappointed that the misconception that you can't solo made it into his review, yes.
I solo all the time in DDO. You just have to remember the dungeons are balances for 4 man groups of the dungeon lvl. You just have to pick the right soloable classes and run dungeons a lvl or 2 below your current level. Pretty easy. I can solo any lvl 1-4 dungeons at lvl 6 for decent XP.
I definitely agree that the Revolution could do very well with FPS and RTS games. I think the Rev is going to have a tremendous lead over the competition due to the controller. I still don't think MMOs will ever have a simple enough control scheme without pissing a lot of PC users off (FFXI is a good example of that). It would be completely different if consoles came with a keyboard and mouse, that way developers could require their use for games that really need it.
Consoles can't dominate the FPS, MMO, or RTS markets, or even come close to it for that matter. PC gaming is anything but a niche market. Console gaming will never support the modding community like the PC can.
You're just going to have to accept that both the console and PC markets are strong and will be for a long time. Don't worry, it's better that way.
I used to think people were smarter than this, but obviously people ARE getting dumber. I mean honestly, how could you pay a monthly subscription to a company that can't even provide enough servers for all of their subscribers? I applaud Blizzard for playing on the stupidity of the mass public. You deserve to sit in a queue. Every single one of you.
If Microsoft "wins" with the XBox 2 then we pretty much "lose". The Xbox 2 and PS 3 are making no steps towards moving gaming forward. I'm glad Nintendo is still keeping things going while Sony and MS dig their own graves.
(Nice shiney high def graves with overpriced caskets)

It does seem like only us NES veterans can enjoy games that are rated for everyone these days. I do think that once generation Y or Z grow up a bit they won't be so afraid of kids making fun of them at the bus stop and they will start playing all the great games they missed as a kid because the game was too "kiddie". How ironic huh.
If they introduce DRM like that I will most definitely pirate everything from that point on. I've always been a good consumer, paying for all my movies. But when they pretty much beg you to pirate the media since it is so unusable in its DRM'd form, there's really no other choice.
I wonder why competing news stations don't publish stories about how competitors outright lie to the public when they put out garbage like this Pictochat article. I guess it would trigger the end of the world.
I think developers should definitely get a cut of the profits these retailers are making by buying used games dirt cheap from people and reselling them. It makes perfect sense.
Why should the retailer, of all people, be able to buy used games for $5 and turn around and sell it for $20 without handing ANY profit over to the people who actually created or published the game?
I don't see why anyone would be upset with Google for censoring results for China. If they didn't, then the Chinese government would probably block Google entirely. So you people would rather the Chinese not be able to use google at all? Use your heads. Google did the right thing.
This article should be modded flamebait. What is happening to/. these days? It's turning into digg.
PSP To Increase U.S. Lead Over DS
Well sorry, but the PSP has to HAVE a lead before it can INCREASE it further. Try looking at the actual number of units sold, not shipped. I wonder how much SIG was paid to conduct the analysis?
It's things like this that keep the illusion going that Nintendo is dieing and the PSP is useful for more than playing over priced UMDs and emulators.
There really isn't anything about Halo that is more than average for a FPS. So to answer your question...nothing.
The only reason it was hyped so much was due to the fact that it saved the XBox from becoming a complete failure. I guess a mediocre game like Halo looked fantastic next to the other titles availabe for the XBox at the time.

No, actually I despise EA. You must be a Rockstar "fanboy". I feel sorry for YOU.

shucks, by the time the Rev and PS3 come out, the Xbox 2 will be old news. Maybe that's Sony's plan.

haha, you should of said that I deserve to go sit in FFXI with my party flag up for 2 hours instead of waiting in a Queue.

walk over to your computer and get on irc
Why do people still expect anything more than subpar games with pretty graphics for the majority of xbox 2 games? You are fools.

Except for the fact that Mario Kart DS isn't a port. But that was a good try. Go reward yourself with some UMD movies.
