  1. Doom 2 on The Most Important Multiplayer Games Ever · · Score: 1

Even before Goldeneye, Doom 2 was already "king" of multiplayer if you were tech-savy enough to get your two computers to hook up via a 14.4+ modem. Using a DWANGO server or something akin to it, you were able to get 4 players together via modem just like a lan...each (and this is the important point) with your own separate screen.

After playing Doom/Doom 2 on the computer I could never sit down in front of a TV divided into four quadrants and feel really good about playing a Deathmatch game where your every move could be monitored by your opponents. A lot of people at it up, but it never felt right to me.

They're coming, but they haven't been announced yet. I've always said that this is the kind of microtransaction I wholeheartedly support.

Not I. Not when publishers are withholding content already on the disk and then reselling it via these so-called microtransactions. The XBL marketplace as a whole is great, but it's rife with this type of gouging these days.

Could you really enjoy The Empire Strikes back without seeing A New Hope before and Jedi after? Same idea.

Well, you could be like my dad and take your son to Return of the Jedi without ever having seen the first two. All is knew is that the lightsaber thing was cool and that there were spaceships. I was lost beyond that. I suspect he was watching Leia on the barge more than anything.

Cool, I think I'll pick this up along with Duke Nukem Forever 2.

  11. Re:Zonk and the PS3 on Sony Console the Worst Launch Ever · · Score: 1

Granted, Sony is screwing up pretty badly, and the xbox 360 is hitting it's stride, it is a pretty annoying bias.

Perhaps Zonk's article selection is simply reflecting general mainstream concensus, then, hmmm?

from the tired-of-his-bullshit department. Molyneux is the master of grandstanding and double-speak. A quote from Peter M. from just the previous article here on /.

"Fable 2 should be everything you expect, then 10 times more that you don't expect -- and that doesn't just apply to this one feature ... I almost said it then! -- that applies to the whole game."

Well, golly, Pete if you're tired of people expecting "10 times more than they don't expect" then don't build your games up that way. And pointing to the word "should" later and saying "See, see, I said should not will" is just playing word-games and general salesman sleeze. There are plenty of game designers out there who aren't attention-whores.

  18. Of course.. on PS3 Japanese Estimates Down, No 360 Price Drop · · Score: 2, Insightful

I always get a chuckle at these denials and the fact that they're even reported as news. Of course Microsoft is going to deny a price drop (even if it's coming), just the way Nintendo denied they were remaking the DS...announcing a price drop would kill current sales of the 360's as everyone would hold out until the price drop actually occurred.
