The company I work for was blacklisted for having an open relay mail server (which we don't) because one of our customers was pissed off at our pricing or something. Took a lot of work to get our server off the list, even though it was not an open relay.
I'm not defending M$ is anyway, but part of the problem in selecting a web browser is all the developers using M$ tools like FrontPage and scripts that only work on IE. Netscape is getting better (or worse depending on how you look at it), but the web desingers are still making pages for IE without considering cross-browser compatibility.
With all the court fees, lawyers, and FUD that SCO is costing IBM, I would think it'd just be cheaper to buy them. There, now we most certainly own the code.
One problem with convergance, if it breaks, you loose your coffee maker, toaster, game player, dvd player instead of just loosing your atari, ahh the good 'ole days.

I think for the next few months, maybe even years anything M$ does in the way of security will not be right in the eyes of many since they have such a bad rep. People will either complain about it being too loose, too tight, too leafy, too lumpy... But hey, give them a break, after all they're new to this security thing.
