  1. ouch on Edubuntu - Linux For Young Human Beings! · · Score: -1

The fact that this version has the same name as the 'real' version (Breezy Badger) - and it actually passes for a child's software name - should raise some questions about the maturity of the naming conventions for Ubuntu..

  2. Re:Not My Space on The MySpace Generation · · Score: -1

I appreciate what you're saying (the dreaded "scalability" word..) but really, Myspace is put together incredibly poorly. The functionality is poor, the coding is bad (allowing users to insert CSS/JS isn't helping them either) and the site is frequently down or broken.

  3. old news :( on The Mother of All CPU Charts · · Score: -1, Flamebait

  4. theory on Software Predicts Music Success · · Score: -1

Students of musical theory will know that when examining cadence {Wikipedia: "Cadences give phrases a distinctive ending, that can, for example, indicate to the listener whether the piece is to be continued or concluded"), a piece using the "right" progression will always succeed. Compare Green Day's Boulevard Of Broken Dreams with Kelly Clarkson's Behind These Hazel Eyes: both use the same chord progression, in theoretical terms, and that progression is a sure-fire hit because it sounds "good" to the ear. I guess the formulas they're using here probably take into account this concept.

  5. a thought strikes me on Used Microsoft Licenses For Sale · · Score: -1

What's to stop people using keygens and flogging illegal copies under the pretence of "used" licenses?

  6. if anyone actually sees this due to my karma.. on Searching for a Realistic MPEG-4 Solution? · · Score: -1

"because to it's commonality" man, who edits this stuff?

  7. to face the facts on Webcasting, Windows Media or Quicktime? · · Score: -1

Most computer (Windows) users will have WMP installed already, so that widens your target audience for that program. I'd say go with that, just because pretty much everyone has it installed (presuming you're appealing to the average Joe).

  8. if you ask me on Coding and Roleplaying - Is There a Connection? · · Score: -1

I don't know about coding, but in the field of "lacking a sexual partner" I think the link with roleplaying is high.

  9. Re:phew on Pillows Dangerous for Your Health · · Score: -1, Troll

My karma is terrible already so I don't care about posting this, but that was seriously not +4 Funny. That was the worst joke I've heard today.. and I live with girls.

  10. (I like this megacorp much less, though) on iPod Video Coming to a Car Near You · · Score: -1

I'm getting a little scared. Apple is becoming the Google of the physical world; in that soon, everywhere you go will have some hookup to an iPod, or other Apple hardware, just like every aspect of the internet is eventually coming under the control of Google's multicoloured iron fist (that does no evil..).

  13. ...liar! on Revenge of the Sith a "Blood Bath" · · Score: 0, Redundant

If he had to tell a story, he'd write a new fucking movie instead of constantly pushing the same tired one he knows will be eaten up by mindless clones (no pun) worldwide.

  14. a sign of things to come on Tracking Sex Offenders via GPS for Life · · Score: 0

I guess this adds a whole new dimension to Google's trust rank. Maybe in the future Google will have a 'People' search, like a directory of the world. Could you imagine that?

  15. waste of time? on How We Got Here - Stuff To Read · · Score: -1

ehhhh, I can't be bothered to register just to get the link.

ahhh, MTV finds another market to ruin with unfair ad promotion. First music, now games.

  19. reality check on The Planet's Most Moronic Hacker · · Score: 0

It's gotta be fake, I mean, if the kid didn't know that 127.0.0.1 was his own IP then how would he know about tools to remotely delete entire drives?

  20. hold the suckage, please on RealNetworks Invests in Legitimizing Free Music · · Score: 0

I'd never use this, free/legal or not, because the music will be in the awful RealPlayer format. I'd rather just not have the music.

  21. Re:more censorship, unimpressed on Google TrustRank · · Score: 0

Tell your son to check out http://www.emureactor.com, it's a great site for roms with little to no adspam/porn.

further proof that google is taking over the world. in a good way. if only there was a google arms confederacy, they could convince dictators and 'terrorists' to negotiate over a steaming mug of cocoa or something.

  23. Traysaver on Improving the Windows XP User Interface? · · Score: 0

I found a really useful little tool called TraySaver. It allows you to minimize any running program to the tray, and hide any unhidable icons from the system tray, including its own icon. Without it I feel swamped by the countless icons Windows forces me to keep, including the 'Safely Remove Hardware' dialog asking me if I want to disconnect my USB modem. Uh, no.
