Well, here's my chance to vocalize an idea I had for a Slashdot/Digg mashup.
The best thing about digg is how fast new stories make it to the front. The bad? Well, apart from today, there's always sensationalist headlines, innacurate headlines/descriptions, and just general pandering to the idiot masses.
So, what about a site like digg where users who had a better reputation had a vote that counted for more? It'd be like combining digging with Slashdot karma and comment moderation. Add to it an algorithm that doesn't call for 50 stories per second, and maybe you'd have something cool. Obviously it needs to be thought out a bit more, but it could work...maybe.
I think a lot of the Sony haters are underestimating Resistance. I'd go as far as to say it's the best console online multiplayer to date. 20 on 20 has never been done, and it's the first game for PS3. It's smooth as butter too.
It seems to me that all the negative press surrounding the PS3 is largely due to it's price, and due to the fact that the average fanboy teenager can't afford it. While I too believe it's a pricey console, the box itself offers a lot of features that I've been waiting for as a gamer for a long time:
Hard drive standard - every PS3 comes with an hard disk, which means every developer can develop for it without excluding anyone.
No region encoding for games - THIS IS HUGE! Have we as gamers not been waiting for this since the beginning? It's finally here! We don't have to wait for marketing departments to choose what we may or may not like in a foreign game; it's all ours.
Card reader - hellooooo homebrew. While homebrew isn't officially supported, this makes it much easier.
Blu-Ray - 50GB discs allow for an obscene amount of storage.
But does it run Linux? Yea, supposedly it will, which means even more homebrew goodness.
While everything I've stated doesn't guarantee great games, it seems to me like they've made it so that this system has a bunch of potential.
"...the dominant impression gained from reading these studies is that finding accurate correlations between file-sharing and loss of revenue for the music industry is tremendously difficult.
How conveniant for us! The first part made me feel a bit guilty, but that last line let's me justify it no problem!
Grand Theft Auto could easily beat it, I would think, with a pay-for-play online mode. Imagine running businesses, fighting different gangs, becoming a police officer/paramedic/taxi driver/fire fighter/etc, buying and selling real-estate; the list could go on forever. Sure, they'd have to figure out how to make it so you couldn't get all your stuff robbed in two seconds, but if they managed a game like this it would definitely beat WoW.
Too bad R*North hasn't shown any signs of taking the game in that direction.
"The mayor said DNA and fingerprint technology could be used to create a worker ID database that will 'uniquely identify the person' applying for a job, ensuring that cards are not illegally transferred or forged."
Oh great, another plan where we track innocent people in an effort to find the guilty ones. Maybe if they chose opposite strategies they wouldn't be met with such public opposition.
What's really stupid is that, if indeed DRM is the 'cause for the delay, Sony is delaying for absolutely nothing. We all know the protection will be cracked (my bet is in less than six months after PC drive is released), regardless of how much effort is put into it.
You have to admit, though, that there is a bit of a morbid fascination with violence in American culture. Not only that, but it's as if since it's fake and kids will eventually be mature enough to watch it, that we can just let kids expose themselves to it (with no guidance) from an early age. It definitely desensitizes you to violence. Later on in life, I guess it's still a morbid fascination, but at least you understand it (as well as other aspects).
I don't think I'd even go from 10x fast forward to 5x fast forward for anything KFC would be offering.
It's not a Gameboy that doubles as phone....

The real problem with the N-Gage is the marketing. Instead of pitching it as a console that doubles as phone, they should sell it as a phone that also plays games. The features the N-Gage has dwarf a lot of phones that sell for the same price; thing is, no one thinks it's a phone. They sell it in stupid places like EB when they should sell them at the Cingular store. People pay outlandish prices for phones, but not for gameboys. Sell it as a phone that also plays games real well, has support for java and simbian and whatnot, and people will buy it. Maybe put a cam on it and a keyboard for two way sidekick type crap. How such a feature rich phone failed to sell when less feature packed phones sell like hotcakes for twice the price is really a mareketing problem.
Don't ever take away from me my pornography
We obviously don't agree on what's obscene
I have the right to choose what I want to see and read
Don't try to take away from me
Cause what I do is no one's business but me
So stay in your missionary position
I hope that you get bored to death
There's no way I'm going through life having vanilla sex
The government's trying to get into your bedroom
you better lock your door and close your shades because
there could be someone watching you
today
Why do you try to make things illegal?
Why do we have to be 21?
Are you afraid that people are having
Too much fun
Why do you care what I do in my bedroom?
Why do you want to know how I screw?
It seems to me you've got nothing better to do
This can already be done using only with the helicopter. The police helicopters already follow the perps much better than the cars do, and without any accident risk.

What you neglect is that the enemy has no real chance of succeeding, so we don't have to nuke anyone.

What if the AMV in question is some sweet (pun intended) Matthew Sweet video from the 80s?

Online we call it a 'penzi'.

The average user doesn't need an HDMI cable. Consoles have always shipped with the most common, and basic, cable solution available.

this feels like a myspace page.
sounds like it needs a .xxx domain.

Don't buy property you couldn't see yourself ever living in.
It'd be funnier if Sony had some kind of history delaying consoles, but they don't. I guess the speculation is on point. Mod it 'E' for effort.

way to muck that one. first line of the second verse should read: Don't try to take away from me my right to privacy.
Advertisement or not, i think it's still very interesting to most nerds. That's what matters.
wtf is an ebay computer and why would it need a fast processor?

Reminds me of this: Thanks Google!
