What are you talking about? It's not "theft of service" if it's your own laptop. You'd have to be pretty close to someone's iPhone to "steal" bandwidth, thanks to the relatively short range of bluetooth. And just because a knife can facilitate murder doesn't mean it was created for that purpose.
What's wrong with the GPL "taking" from other licenses? If you don't want your code taken and modified without being given the changes you should pick another license that doesn't allow that (I can name one that comes to mind). I don't see anyone bitching about modified BSD code in Windows or OSX, although I'm sure some changes were given back by Apple. This isn't really directed at you as much as it is to the driver developers who got their panties in a bunch a few months ago, so please don't think I'm taking one word you wrote out of context for the purpose of this rant.
Most of us dual-boot, especially for games. For everything else, there's Linux and it's good to know that driver support isn't half arsed for once (barring the fact that it's probably the binary only driver on the CD).
I don't know, I've seen similar software bundled with PC webcams since 6-7 years ago. The recognition wasn't perfect, though, and flailing your arms about with a friend would pretty much win most of the games.
"Why can't I just download a piece of software and double-click on it to install?!?!"
Most apps have.deb files on their websites where you can download and double click to install, you just haven't looked hard enough. Just make sure you select an Ubuntu/debian specific download, and you'll get the.deb file.
Downloads that require you to install from source, would be in the repos anyway, which only require you to click Applications > Add/Remove > tick the one you want, 99% of software you install would be obtained in this very simple manner.
As for your comment about editing a file to configure monitors, the latest Ubuntu beta due later this month (finally) has a GUI tool to edit and configure monitors, as well as making it easy to plug in a second screen. It's required very little configuring out of the box, and I'm quite impressed, as a Linux user since 2003.
Your other comments are valid, though, there still aren't enough GUI based tools, and the duplication of effort on the desktop is horrible. There's a difference between giving the user choice, and having two sets of libaries that do essentially the same thing in the same way.
I'd like to know the details too, so I can make an informed decision on which to force (gently) down the throats of my MS Word using friends. Although, I'd probably trust the Sun version a lot more, due to their friendliness to FOSS and the fact that they are pretty much the main contributers to Open Office.
We really badly need a "-1 Incorrect/Bullshit" mod. I have (had after posting this comment) mod points, and didn't really think the other moderations would fit, and decided to reply instead.
With that out of the way, I've installed Firefox a few times in the past couple of days trying to get my laptop to work, and none of what you said is true. After first install FF asks if I want it to be the default browser, downloading from the official FF site gives me Firefox 2.0 and nothing else, and the default home is suitable for most users, it's not like the google search page takes over other browsers or the rest of your computer and it's better than having a portal page that tries to get you to pay for premium services. You can easily change the home page and default search engine.
Under the old OS numbering system, this would be OS 14 or maybe 13, since 10.1 actually was a free bugfix release. They just love using the lone X in the logo.

They really should make it much easier to change this, the opera client is horrible for those of us who are already familiar with other clients. It was probably designed for those people who don't really know what to do with a.torrent file.

Notice that the parent post had an XPS m1330 because it has a form factor comparable to the macbook. That's important with portables, y'kno.
Excellent idea! You could propose this idea in the ubuntu forums, where they are taking ideas for the next release (http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=253). If you don't do it, I will create a thread there myself. Also, I've always thought that a photo management tool should only access the user's photo folder, music player can only access music folder, etc, or something similar that would provide security, and still some flexibility.
If you don't like flash, you probably won't like this thing either. Either way, theres no point in doing this. And what the hell is up with the posting delay? Its a bit excessive.
It was probably the printer friendly version that was linked, so it'd make sense to automatically show the print dialog. The alternative would be to have the article on 8 pages each with its own talking smiley pop-up that scares the shit out of you due to its creepy "I wuv you" catchphrase and the fact you forgot that your speakers were on pretty loud.
I remember being amused by W32.Welchia.Worm when it infected my WinXPsp1 installation, since all it did was look for Blaster and erase it. Unfortunately, it used the exact same spreading mechanism that blaster did and used up a whole load of traffic. I guess it was a good way to get to the computers that were vunerable to Blaster.
Some people had nvidia cards before they tried out linux. Some retailers mention that there's linux support for these cards, not mentioning to newbs that they have to jump thru a few hoops, just like the atheros based wireless cards. My next computer upgrade will not include an Nvidia, but I do hope that this pledge gets their attention.
If we show that we will accept closed drivers/spec on an open system, we've already lost. Especially with the desktop effects becoming more and more important in modern distros. Also, AFAIK, there are no Nvidia drivers for PPC, and then there are people who could learn about the GPU specifics for the sake of it.
The Wikipedia articles for both substances state the "brand name" that they are available under.
Read the article, please. The exact same releases of software (such as the LAME encoder) shouldn't have a 2-3x decrease in performance.
17 represents the year 2017. 2017-2004=13, because the original release was in 2004. 13x2=26, because releases are every 6 months, i.e. twice a year.

Exactly, imagine the killing he could have made on eBay for that thing. Now with his ugly mug instead of Harrison Ford's it's worthless.
Don't forget, Samsung have made a patent deal with them as well. LG are now just another company who obviously do not want my business.

We need to have the pink slashdot theme back, even as an option. OMG ponies!!
