They are the same people, that think girls can never be in IT. Once simpleminded people have it in their heads, they influence everyone else, whether they realize it or not.
Young girls have friends, parents, teachers, etc. All of the people they come in contact with can influence them. Those simpleminded will eventually say stuff like "heh, it's OK that you don't understand that math problem, you're a girl after all" and so on. Being influenced by the society years after years, girls subconsciously imagine a huge wall between them and IT.
That's the problem I see.
Whether you like it or not, the world doesn't consist of people, that aren't influenced by soap operas. Average slashdotter does *not* represent an average person in your country. If people realized they are being influenced by these tiny things and thought for themselves more, there wouldn't be such a problem in the first place.
It will affect people, which in turn will affect other people. This isn't about making a few girls trust their abilities. It's about making the whole society less sceptical about the girls' abilities.
The button class baffles us. We can't really tell what what it is used for. Similarly, the link class, which is apparently very popular, seems strange. Why would authors label something with that class?
Button class is usually used when people want some links (<a href>) look like a button. (Light top and left borders, dark bottom and right borders, different background, inverted on hover, etc.)
often
adverb In an expected or customary manner; for the most part: commonly, consistently, customarily, frequently, generally, habitually, naturally, normally, regularly, routinely, typically, usually. Idioms: as usual, per usual. See big/small/amount, usual/unusual.
Seldom, yes, very seldom, but often, quite often. I agree.
With a defective product, the company isn't liable for anything beyond replacing it
It's a different thing. He claims the design is defective, not just one 360 he receieved.
That's also why he wants all x-boxes to be recalled.
One doesn't become a CEO with 50-100 times your salary magically. There's a world of difference between you and him. You can expect something, when (and if) you make your way to the position. Of course it's easier to think you deserve something (like CEO answering your mails at 11 in the evening) just because you work 10-12 hour days.
Titan is much like the Earth with winds, rains and tectonic forces but instead of water it has an abundance of methane.
So to get life you need 4 elements?
Wind = Air;
Tectonic Forces = Earth;
Liquid Methane = Water;
And Fire would be... Required temperature or lightning?
Storm. In an ocean or just on a coast lightning striking something? Perhaps that's how life is born?
Not that I have any idea what I'm talking about...:)
IIRC, in Minority Report advertisement devices were able to read your eye retina, find you in their database. That was enough to refer to you by your name and advertise a product you might be interested in.
No implants needed.
(Plus an image _can_ be projected directly onto your eye, meaning you will be seeing it, but everyone around won't. Doesn't require an implant either.)

I thought spyware + adware would be more like "sadware".
Ugh, steal them back?

Not every downloaded copyrighted work would have been paid for otherwise.
I wonder why the poster didn't link to the original study
Because it's in french?
And they'll be called "sequels".
So the 360 shortage might actually help Microsoft: they can fix more consoles.
It might be obvious *now*, but that doesn't mean it was obvious 25 years ago.

Does the computer operating system a person uses as a child have any predictive value in forseeing what OS a person will use as an adult?
If they know alternatives, the job is done.
Ultimately, the choice is their.
It should check if it's opened in IE and suggest alternatives.
Seriously, if Google is to protect it's customers,
there's nothing wrong with suggesting a more secure browser.
Don't forget a link!
But you can remove QuickTime. There's always QuickTime Alternative.
Why is it always me? /cries
If there's someone to change daylight saving time or eliminate a second here and there, then there's someone to reconfigure the clock, too.
If we followed that reason, we'd still be living in caves, using bows and spears to hunt. Cause, you know, caves don't break.

Another example - Chrome. Don't know "how much Java" it is, but it received a Duke's Choice Award last year.
