I like how his "distinctive" style is basically that all his characters look identical, save for different hair.
Put a bandanna on Chrono and you've got the main character from DQVIII.
Elitist, sure, but what other major sports are like that?
Kids get scouted in high school and get scholarships to colleges for football, hockey, baseball, and other sports. It doesnt matter how rich they are or what school they go to, if theyre good then a scout will come check them out.
Hell, the NBA is full of kids who drop out of high school to play profesionally.
Maybe another elitist sport is a good thing. If kids cant afford to play it, then perhaps they'll stay in school and go to college.
It has nothing to do with it being Microsoft, it has to do with the product having at least a six-month lead on all other competitors, and then releasing with supply issues, hardware issues, and tons of games that dont work yet.
If they werent so intent on releasing so early, they could have cleared up all of these issues and released a solid product in stead of one that if you are lucky to find, has a good chance of being faulty, and if not then it wont play but less than half the library of games you purchased last gen.
...to the next-gen, where not only is hardware not ready for launch, but the software isnt either
Next thing, you'll be downloading patches for your new xbox2 games before theyre even released. I suppose that since they have moved away from off-the-shelf PC components, they can make it more PC-like in other ways.
They arent that bad, and stuff like TMNT is actually pretty good barring the sometimes mixed up voices and occasional silly episode.
And while they may not be all that perfect, theyre still a ton better than what is on tv now. Also, I enjoyed them when I was a kid, so chances are my kid will enjoy them too =]
Even though I dont have Pong, the kid will grow up in a way that he can see it or something like it and consider that he may have fun playing it. I would bet that any kid starting with Burnout Revenge would rather wash dishes than try Pong.
When the fruit of my loins is unleashed upon the world, I am ready to raise him properly.
That means starting him out with Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Burgertime, and all the classics. He will move up to the NES, SNES, Genesis, and along up the generations as he gets older. Of course, Number Muncher and other classic educational games will be on tap, too.
Start a kid off with current-gen stuff will only produce another graphics-obsessed drone that will shun anything that isnt 3D and is too soft to handle the occasional hard game that is released by brave studios (FZeroGX, Ninja Gaiden, etc).
Off-topic:
And when he isnt playing the classics, he will be watching Transformers, Thundercats, the original TMNT, and all the other great cartoons that were on when I was a kid. It worries me that kids are growing up these days watching YuGiOh GX and other drivel CN and the other networks are putting out. Sleep in on saturday, kids. We can watch some cartoons on DVD when you get up.
I believe Nero and other CD/DVD burning apps install their own ASPI drivers or something similar to talk to the burning drive. I've tried Nero after installing it without a reboot before, and it doesnt detect any cd burners.
Do ad execs really think that someone will be playing MGS4, see a Mountain Dew machine/popup/clever placement and think to themselves "wow that looks good, I could really go for a Mountain Dew right now. I'll go to the store and buy some as soon as I finish this game"?
If the person already drinks MD, then he probably already has some, or is already planning on buying more. This isnt going to spur sales.
On the other hand, most people buy products from ads when they are introduced to the product by the ad. Are they going to be selling a new kind of vaccuum cleaner in Resident Evil 4?
Any other christians that post on slashdot getting bothered that ID is the new christian view on creation?
It is nothing more than a cop-out and compromise with the evolution theory meant to be less-offensive to non-christians and draw people on to our side of the argument. How is it more plausible than a completely-God creation like in the Bible? I think the problem most non-christian people have with creationism is that God has anything to do with it, so I dont see why they would be more succeptible to agreeing with ID just because it has less God in it.
Depends on where you are in the state, but in my experience, most jobs (esp IT) are with the government in some form or fashion. Local govt, federal govt, military... Lots of contractor positions from Boeing, Bechtel, Raytheon, and others working for the government.
Though there are plenty of mines (gold, coal, whatever), telecom (verizon especially), oil (BP), and universities (UAF, UAS) that I have witnessed offering IT positions. Really the only thing that is probably a bad idea is setting up your own shop. Because even our largest city isnt that big, only a few IT shops can compete with each other, and then it usually boils down to one that has multiple offices.
I spent a year after college just doing odd jobs for the local govt before I got a position on the missile defense base, so there are good IT jobs in Alaska, they just arent as easy to find.
www.cpol.army.mil --- if youre at all interested in government/military (civilian) positions
Then again, when it is pitch black out at noon, the wind is blowing at 45knots, and you are trudging through a foot of snow to reach certain buildings, my boss realizes how insane it would be to require more formal attire.
I work in interior Alaska, and the above description is what someone from the lower48 could only call a "nice day" compared to our bad ones.
RF Picture quality sucks!
Component quality sucks less!
Svideo quality sucks even less!
Composite quality is pretty good!
DVI/HDMI quality is the best you can get on a consumer-grade tv!
For $10 I will write an article for your website arguing between TOSLINK and 75Ohm coax for audio, and then finish it with a tie.
IT WILL BE A REVELATION TO EVERYONE.
Oh, it will be an Xbox2 article too, so that it gets posted on Slashdot.
And it doesn't look kludgy, artifacty or smeary like an upscanning DVD player.
What kind of shit hardware does this guy use to "upscan" (upconvert) his movies?
I guess the whole home theatre community obsessed with picture quality has been wasting hundreds of dollars on upscaling DVD players, because apparently they look kludgy, artifacty, and smeary -not better.
So when my PS3 breaks (and it will, all of Sony's consoles are made to break and be rebought), then I will be unable to play the games that I purchased and "own".
It is the next generation of Sony's (successful) plan to continue selling playstations to people who already own (a broken) one. Not only do the consoles break, but the games do too!
As much as I complain, I will still get one for MGS4 and a few other choice titles =[
Actually, studios are begining to get early Revolution dev kits and are reporting 720p as being supported. Granted it could be pulled later, but at least it is there now.
As an HDTV owner I am pleased, but honestly it doesnt matter so much. If the game is fun then I tend to not notice if it has pillarboxes on the sides of the picture and just have fun playing. It is a nice bonus to have the picture in 16:9 and progressive scan, but I think it is stupid to buy a console because of the graphics or resolution rather than for the games.
I like how his "distinctive" style is basically that all his characters look identical, save for different hair. Put a bandanna on Chrono and you've got the main character from DQVIII.
We are raving lunatics, but we chose our team and are happy to do our part =]
1) Halve development costs
2) Charge an extra $10 this gen due to "rising game development costs".
3) Profit
I wish it were a joke...
When Marketing met Video Games.
It's a cross-promotion, nothing special here.

What kind of father is this guy?

So is games.slashdot.com going to shut down, now?
Without Xbox2 news, the page will be barren until the Xbox3 hype begins... in a few weeks.
Nevermind.

Not many people in a major industry would apologize and place themselves at fault for anything (especially if it was their fault) that they said.
Kudos to Mr Rein for taking responsibility and setting the record straight.

Well, I own a PS2, but it is used, so Sony didnt get any of my money on that =]
They did get my money on the games, though... =[
The revolution will get the majority of my games money in the future, like the cube and DS do now.
So when my PS3 breaks (and it will, all of Sony's consoles are made to break and be rebought), then I will be unable to play the games that I purchased and "own".

You are correct! I did not know this!
Very nice, so even if stuff is not in progressive scan, its at least possible for games to fill my screen.
