Actually, 3D may actually have something to offer...
    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-12-14-killzone-3-split-screen-co-op-confirmed

With 3D, since they have to double the graphics output, it makes local co-op easier to do. It won't be co-op in 3D, but hey.

There was also a method patented a while ago for local co-op using 3D glasses a while back as well...

  10. Online Census? on Computers May Thwart 2010 Census · · Score: 1

We had an online census in NZ a while ago.

From all reports, it went well.

Had a person come to the household, with the census papers. On the papers, was a web address and a PIN code to access the online version of the census.
If you filled out the online version, you ticked a box on the paper version, and gave it back to the nice person that collected them a week or so later.

Didn't hear any reports about security breaches.

If more console games come out supporting Keyboard and mouse, sod using a PC for gaming.
No more having to upgrade video cards, CPU and memory just to play a game I want to play.
I got UT3 for the PS3, and I have to say, with the keyboard and mouse it's fantastic. And the colours are pretty too. No lag or stutter, very responsive to input. Online is good as well.

As for the free games for consoles, that might happen, it might not. Some of the demos that can be downloaded are pretty good, even if it is just part of the game. Some of the 3rd party games aren't free, but they're not expensive either.

And as for the "everything is going to be downloadable", there will always be people that want to have their stuff on some sort of physical media.
I'd rather have a game on a disc than have to download it if my machine gets wiped. That and the fact that I do not have unlimited bandwidth, and most likely never will. I currently have a 30gb monthly cap. I can do 60 easy.

  13. Re:I tried to get more people into it. on Why Aren't More Linux Users Gamers? · · Score: 1

Because nobody makes games for linux. There are a lot of reasons for that:

Unreal Tournament 2003/4 comes with a script to install it on Linux. Runs better under Linux than in Windows , IMO. There was an issue with a library, but a soft link fixed that.

1: Check out http://www.linux-gamers.net/ They have how-tos on getting games to run under Linux, and also have install scripts for other games. I got Steam, MoH, and CS running, almost got BF2142 to work.

2: Nearly all of the Linux users I know have no trouble with using closed source programs. People need to got off their high-horse when it comes to this issue. I do know a Linux guy who makes religious-fundos look tame though....

3: Never had any problem here. Well, apart from graphics drivers and having to reconfigure my settings every time I installed new ones.

4: Make the games (or make Wine easier to install windows games), and the market share should follow. Maybe someone should make games for the ee and see what happens...

I've been considering the move to Linux, but until I can get my games to install easily, I'll have to stick with windows. Although I might even give up on PC gaming, and game only on the PS3. PC gaming has been rife with cheating and bots for years now, and if more games come out on the PS3 supporting Keyboard and Mouse, that's where I'll likely spend my time. The PS3 onliners seem a bit more mature as well. (Not like those Xbox360 Halo-Whores, from what I've heard. I'm sure there are nice people there, but I only hear about the bad ones.)

I'd prefer to see a touch-screen like keyboard, rather than a touch screen monitor. it takes a surprising amount of effort to hold your arms out in front of you to manipulate a screen for a longish period of time.
I'd rather have a keyboard that switches from being a keyboard to a multiple user input device (that automatically brings up a second pointer when a second finger is added) and back with the touch of a button.
