Where you located? I had Sprint PCS for 5 years and when I moved to So Cal, I had *no* reception in my apartment, but the GSM phones seemed to work, so I went with TMobile and life is good again. Oddly enough, AT&T works the best at my apartment, then my T68i/Tmobile, then Cingular, even though its all same protocol, and I thought Cingular and Tmobile piggy back on each others towers (AT&T might be in on that too, not for sure though).
It gets less reception then my Sprint phone at work, but never dropped a call yet.
So point is, its probably just a problem in your location, the sad fact is the reception varies per provider in the same areas, so if your used to something else thats better and you switch and the new one sucks, well, return it, almost all providers have 14 day full refund return policies.

Normally, I don't really say anything during these moralistic threads, but I have seen this post a million times in one form or another. I just want to say, while yes, you are completely correct in thinking we should help those people. However, those are not the only people out there that need help. You can not always help only people at the bottom.
Sure, we could be altruistic about it...but honestly, do you think most geeks (sorry, we are at slashdot, have to refer the herd this way) are truly interested enough in helping a poor kid in Africa eat as opposed to helping them set up Linux? Now, don't say I mean they think they should starve over Linux, but rather, just be honest with yourself. Everyone has a threshold on how much they will help, so any help is good help.
With that said, who is to say this poorest of the poor+1 social strata will not thus reach down and those even needier then them? Don't assume just because they are poor too that they have no interest in helping their neighbors. I am sure most Americans are much more apt to help a starving neighbor then a starving person 15000 miles away. Out of sight out of mind right?
Its human, sure, its not perfect, but no one claimed to be. So anyway, again, no bashing you, just wanted to point out why this argument does not constantly hold water like you would think it would.
Ok, I been wondering, remember those desks that have the rolldown top? Why do the tablet/pad makers not implement exactly the same thing? It would be such an easy fix and greatly improve the chances of the screen surviving bumps, etc. Is it an asthetic concern? I am sure someone can make it look good. Also, I am patenting this if no one has done it haha:)
1. Bombadil was a good drop. Why? Because while I feel he is critical to the book, his story is removed from the rest of the book. He is sort of the "history backup". So dropping him from the movie was obvious for time.
2. Many of the changes, such as Striders love scene, are forced into the movie to help blandify (that a word) the work. Why? To make it more appealing across the bell curve. If it was crazy sex, it would offend the Christians. If it was a gaze of love, pRon freaks be up in arms. So the balance.
I think the biggest rip has always been Frodo's fame! Samwise does all the work!
So come Towers, just chill out. Its a 40 hour book to read out loud, they put it in 3 hours of movie.
It broke my heart to see Sega release Crazy Taxi on PS2. Sure, I have seen Sega games come to other platforms for years (Atari, NG Pocket, Gameboy), but the true competetive platforms were offlimits (NES/SNES/TG16/PS1+2). However with MS in the fray and PS2 still kicking ass, I am pleased to see the old school get together to whoop up on M($)ony. Of course, when PSBox codenamed Gannon comes out, they better watch out!
And whoever that fool was out there that asked who owned 32X, SegaCD, Master System and Saturn, I wave my hand. I have the Nomad (that I play everynight before I go to bed) and the X'Eye as well. Got the Sega Mod for the LaserActive too. Anyway, Sega has serious hardware experience, maybe with the banner year this past year for the industry they will try to regroup on their own platform in a few years.
I hate to burst your bubble, but think about it. There are some damn good programmers in this world. Why can you not simply (in the backend) write operating protocols based on interactions with humans.

I learned the hard way. If you are not for sure, this is my advice. Do NOT get a degree in the field you wish to work (major that is), unless its required, like medicine. Say you want to work in computing (and not the research end), MIS/IT/IS/etc. Liberal arts will show that you can read and write and think for yourself. From there, get a minor say in CS, but actually even better, MIS/DSIS/some IT-type minor or AA. This shows you know tech. From there, to prove you have the abilities and interest in a certain aspect of tech, say MSCE for M$ enviro, CISSP for InfoSec, Oracle/Solaris certs for database admin...shows your capable there. (Don't let the/. crowd paint you into the unix box only.) I have a history major, minors in computer science and telecommunications, and working towards my MSCE and CISSP. Experience helps, but if your taking the 4 year route and don't have lots of times to work, you can do the major/minor paid easy and do the cert in the summer. Also, if you can, study abroad, it will help you *very* much (well if you go somewhere relevant to the position your applying for). Hope that helps.
I recently graduated from the Uni. of KY and am now moving to Irvine, CA (beach, desert, mountains, tech companies, girls in bikini's, etc.). apartmentguide.com has an option you can set to help search for apartments that have highspeed internet (which is something I had to have.) Of course whether its any count, who knows. The service I will be getting is Cox@home, soon to be Cox@cox.
While many people have pointed out that the R&D needs to be compensated, and it is expensive, I must say a few things. For one, it is, but like all companies wanting to recoup something, they are claiming more then it really is. Sure it may have cost a billion to develop, but when they claim it cost 10 billion, something is highly askew. Others have mentioned they can get the money back from rich companies, and others counter that argument that people will just get the drugs in Brazil. I find that hard to believe. However, even so, to be honest, very *few* people could ever afford the drugs on their own to begin with. So whats the solution? More public research and government *produced NOT funded* factories. Why? Because they can be held more accountable then any multi-national and it can directly help the people and not worry about bottom lines.
Actually, with IE 5.5 on my G4 at work with OS 9.1, 192MB RAM, 10BaseT out on Frame Relay, still takes an absurd amount of time to render, like 10-20 seconds. So I can see it on that weak system.
Well, no. It will only be 1/3 as bad as by releasing two additional movies gives them three times as much time to compress it into.:)
