I think there is a big difference between keeping opposing browsers off 4/5 of the worlds desktops and keeping it off a very, very, very small % of the phone market.

  2. is it just me on Mozilla Releases Firefox 3 Beta 4 · · Score: 1

or is it getting harder to sound excited about each beta release of a browser? All they do is smarten up the interface. Any speed increases are negligible unless they can render it faster than the pipes can download it. It is not like any of them are going to do anything too revolutionary as all they are doing is implementing standards.

I have been watching the Diggnation video podcast thing. They should really get Alex to be the new poster boy for AD&D. If the world knew that people who looked like surfer dudes played it, it might lose some of its stigma.

Nearest I came to playing it in the last 20 years was a quick bit of Neverwinter Nights.

  8. We need 2 sorts of bookmark button on Firefox 3 Beta 3 Officially Released · · Score: 1

Given my opinion we would have two buttons "bookmark Page" and "Bookmark Site". The former bookmarks the current page while the latter just bookmarks the top level domain. Why do this? Because most of the time i just want to bookmark the site so I can come back to it later. Invariably though you have to bookmark "www.a.b.com\default.htm" and a couple of months later that gets replaced with "default2.htm" or something. Quite a lot of my bookmarks lead to old pages (which never get updated) or 404s. Yeah, I know the websites could do some clever redirecting but how likely is that?

  9. good omen on An Older Demographic May Soon Dominate Gaming · · Score: 1

for games to take off with non gaming crowds it requires a new way of thinking from them. rather than passively watching TV/films and listening to music, they should want to take part in their chosen game. virtual soap operas? virtual Will Smith adventures?

and who knows, if everyone starts taking part in things (life, elections, etc) the world might become a better place.

I like to think that for each black hole in our universe there is a big bang in another parallel universe. the multiverse would be in a constant state of flux as universes grew, and then when enough balck holes had appeared, were sucked out to make the raw material for new universes. these in turn eventually draining into others.
