  8. Re:Wii isn't underpowered except on The Wii's Brain Exposed · · Score: 1

    Nintendo strategy with the Wii is very different then all consoles in the previous 7 generations. It's more similar to the DS strategy, a low end, cheap hardware, with games that appeal to people who are not gamers and were always excluded from gaming because of the complexity or dedication demands of games.

    I'm a long time gamer and this is my view of the next-generation future: In the best case scenario, Wii becomes a niche or fails miserably, in the worts case, Nitnendo Pulls a DS, and 3rd party developers start developing simple "fun" games with mass appeal, lusting after low development costs, big market and high profits. It will be a dark age for gaming like the rising of pop music.

    And what probably will happen is, Wii becomes and enourmous sucess and developers jump in some making crappy "fun" games for the profits and others making regular games, sucking the support and killing other platforms, effectively stucking everyone in the 6th genereation /w upgraded controllers.

    That's when I'll drop consoles and go back to PC gaming exclusively.
    OK, maybe none of those scenarios will happen, but nintendo strategy scares the crap outta me. I just hope there's an ELE in the console world and wipe the bad ideias out of the map.

  9. VC on Wii Virtual Console, Launch Titles Finalized · · Score: 1

    VC is a pretty cool feat, and nintedo certaily has a huge library of classic games, but since I spend so little time at home, I'd favor playing classic Ps1 games on the PSP than classic VC nintendo games at home. They have to come up with someway to use the DS to run these games, that'll be a killer app.

    If so, then whould a "Virtual Game Machine", something like Java or .Net VM, build upon some sort of open standards and specifications for CPU, Memory and GPU interface, an Open "Closed" sandbox exclusively to run games. Developers would just need to develop considering the standards, that would common for all implementations, and could even evolve as fast as linux(on pace with hardware evolution). Am I talking bs here or is the Free community just not that organized?

    Everyone blames Sony, but this ideia has probably originated from publishers or developers. Used games sales bring no profit whatsoever to hardware manufacturers, game publishers or developers. This way they could still allow a used game market, yet, cashing in on it. I don't like this one bit, if they don't release a full version of the game I simply won't buy it, but I can see their point of view. As I see they could go even go the extra mile and provide console-locking ability, publishers would just climax and consumers would swallow or shun it. It's the same with DRM in music and movies, most consumers don't notice or don't care(well that might be changing, since only 5% of ipoders buy from ITMS), and the few people who now that DRM is devil, aren't express enough to fight the wishes of MPAA and RIAA. We should come up with an acronym for money-sucking-DRM-lovers-Game-developers.

    I belive most gamers want new and revolutionary gameplay WITH new and revolutionary graphics, not a trade off.

    I really hope Wii fails or at least becomes a niche market, just because the ideia of wii model catching on and the next generations being less power then they could have, trading off advances for "fun" just freaks me.

    Turn-based, Real-time Action;
    3D, 2D, 4D(PS3 added a new dimension to gaming :D) ;
    Frist Person, 3rd person, Ortogonal;

    And those are only technical tags for the gameplay.
