Re:Was this a plug for a really crappy comic?
The comic isn't a standalone; you really have to read the strip regularly for it to make much sense. The Roomba, the weird dialogue, and the non-sequiter ending are all part of the comic style. The guy CAN write grammatical prose.

My list (short, thanks to RSS)
My list is pretty short, thanks to RSS. Google Reader filled up with all my 216 feeds, including Slashdot. (I don't read all 216.) Bloglines is also pretty good. Google News with saved searches for all my favorite topics. Not Easy for semi-random news. This sometimes helps me catch news I'd otherwise miss. Reddit for social news with much higher SNR and nicer design than Digg. For entertainment: QDB.us / random for IRC quotes. lingua.phobo.us (plug for a friend's 'zine
:) Dear Abby for the occasional fucked up story. And a bunch of comics: Achewood, xkcd, Dilbert... -
Airwolf...But can someone give me a call when "Airwolf" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airwolf is put up for sale... Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's already been sold.

Re:Not a lot of surprises, but pleasent none the l
Freezepop also wrote a song for Achewood , so obviously they're all hip to that whole webcomics scene, man.

Obligatory Achewood...

Don't miss the "vestigal dong" story this kicked off... -
Re:The webcomic #3.
I'll second that. Achewood seems to get away without a regular update schedule, but I can't think of any other very popular comics that do it. Sure, sure, PvP posts late at night, but it's still every day.
-
Nice going.
Seeing this interview, I can't help but think of an Achewood comic from a couple months ago. http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=05172006. I'm glad to know someone's mom did not actually draw it for them.

obligatory achewood reference
Yeah...how about something funny? achewood

Hell in a handbasket? For liking Microsoft? Nah.
Actually, not a handbasket, but a Subaru Brat.

Roomba Theater
How long before some doofus tries to reenact Great Moments in Cinema?

Wonderful!
Who says that webcomics have to be "funny"? It's nice to see some serious, dramatic entires pulling ahead of the pack and innovat...
Wait, Ctrl-Alt-Delete is...
It's supposed to be funny???
I'm not paying $3 for 5 minutes of powerfully unfunny garbage. There are some real gems out there, but CAD is... well, it's the "Joey" of the webcomics world. It's very important that this animated series venture lose buckets of money. Otherwise, webcomics might turn into American TV. -
Re:Achewood, another grevious omission
Agreed 100%, I recently discovered Achewood and spent the better half of a day clicking and chuckling
:) That and the Perry Bible Fellowship have rekindled my interest in webcomics.
Oh yeah, and Knock knock! -
all your Achewood are belong to us

Achewood, another grevious omission
I'm a longtime fan of Achewood. It characters are vivid and interesting (like Ray, the millionare playboy cat, and Todd, the drug dealer squirrel), and it also makes really interesting use of the comic medium (for example, Roast Beef, the shy programmer cat, speaks in a smaller font than everyone else). You should definitely check it out. Some choice strips are "Liquor Cabinet Taste Test" and "Keep on Rockin', Roast Beef"
Plug: if you like Achewood, you might also like my webcomic, The Mooches.

Webcomics that don't suck
I generally agree with you about webcomics generally being pretty lame, although if you look at the comics in a newspaper in any given day, you will find roughly the same level of quality (~10%, per Sturgeon).
PBF is really good, another quasi-web comic (syndicated in alternative weeklies, I think) which is in its league is Tom the Dancing Bug.
As far as web-only comics go, though, Achewood is where it's at. (But you have to put a little time into the archives before its genius becomes clear.) And if you can tolerate jokes about punk rock, Nothing Nice to Say is usually pretty good. -
How has nobody mentioned Achewood?
http://www.achewood.com/
Read it for a week. You'll fall in love. -

Secrets! What he doesn't say in the interview is the secret of Hiram the Blacksmith
Got to buy a wagon and supplies...
Got to get some strong horses...
Got to get them shoed...
Hiram the Blacksmith asks if you would like a cocktail while you wait.
Hijinks ensue! Read Achewood to find out!

It's so annoying. I know that achewood is the best comic on the web (or anywhere), but no one else seems to know.

achewood.com is the best online comic strip.

Re: we need a service...
Damn straight - the only two days we need to celebrate are Talk Like A Pirate Day and Fuck You Friday. -
Re:Goodbye, karma.
Oh kids, kids... both UserFriendly and Penny Arcade are tired old retarded retreads. Try a real webcomic.
-
Re:Yeah, but are they FUNNY?
-
Achewood
Look, I've even done all the work for you: the first Achewood. Use the red arrow pointing to the right to go to the next.
-
Re:Yeah, but are they FUNNY?I have not seen any consistantly funny web comics. Most are painfully UNFUNNY. What does "unfunny" mean? That means they are the opposite of funny. They suck the funniness out of other things.
Believe me, I know what you mean. Penny Arcade? Terrible. PVP? Terrible. Sinfest? You get the idea. I don't like Pokey the Penguin or any of this bullshit. I can tolerate Scary-go-round.
Okay man, here you go. I have the one you'll like. I hope you haven't seen it yet and dismissed it. Achewood . It relies on the characters and usually has a running plot, so don't read the front page or just today's and yesterday's.
Do yourself and me a favor. Go back to the first one and start from there. After you see a couple months worth, come back and thank me (no rush.)
-
not so cute?
iRobot may be cute, but they also make some scary military stuff.
-
Re:Yikes!
Ray: Man, these Gilmore Girls talk too goddamned much!
Cornelius: If you don't like it, you can go do something else.
Ray: Seriously, man! Who writes this shit? Nerdy bitches on speed?

Re:Well I think JWZ put it best for Lynx users.
Interestingly enough, some people have learned to use this to their advantage. WebComics like Quantz.com and Achewood.com display the alt-text, and use it as a second punch line for the comic. I don't see how having the alt text pop up on mouseover makes the site look terrible. I mean, if he was really concerned about Lynx users he wouldn't create a site entirely made of images....

Re:BOASAS
boasas is funny, but it's no Achewood.

Is it wrong that I wouldn't know of Roomba if it weren't for Achewood?

My first thought too, but I couldn't find it either. Reminds me of when the boys gave microsoft word an award, though
