Re:What about real ones for safety needs?
As long as I can put the display through a filter, like HQ/2X, we'll be fine.
If there's an NES filter, even better. Then landing the plane wouldn't be any harder than Top Gun

Re: Huh?
Interestingly back in the day the laws and courts were more sane and it wasn't illegal for companies to circumvent Nintendo's lockout technology and there were a few companies that produced unlicensed games for the original Nintendo. Even more funny, one of the companies that was (in)famous for doing so produced a lot of bible themed games that they sold through Christian stores because Nintendo started to lean on retailers to stop them from selling unlicensed games.
There were even more primitive versions of "DRM" in older PC games such as the game periodically requiring the user to enter the fifth word on the seventh page of the manual under the assumption that people with a copy wouldn't have the manual. A few others had codewheels that came with the game that served a similar purpose. Eventually this resulted in the pinnacle of copy protection. -
Re:AVGN
Considering that the AVGN just did a movie based on this legend, I wonder what his reaction will be?
No need to wonder: http://cinemassacre.com/2014/0...
The movie is still in post, by the way. It isn't done yet. -
Re:GODZILLA!!!
Alas.. nobody remembers the Gargantua movie as well as the ToHo Frankenstein movie. Those were much better than any of the Godzilla flicks. We have monsters eating humans, when did Godzilla or any of his other frenemies do that?!?

Re:My friend had that game.
I agree that it was a shitty game, but certainly not the worst game of all time. Here is an amusing review (kinda NSFW) of some examples.
CAPTCHA: pervert (I kid you not!)

Re:Damn
Hell, I'd love to see just creative and competent un-paid-for review of a given video game. Between the thirst for ad money, and pressure from gaming companies? Damn, you know?
Definately wading into offtopic I know, but would you settle for creative, comedic, nostalgic, and un-paid-for-by-gaming-companies?
The closest I know of, and one of my personal favorites, is the angry video game nerd
Certainly not on the same level (or even game) as Siskell and Ebert, but entertaining in a different way none the less, and it is obviously a work of love and not money.
Just thought I'd share.

Re:Put the internet on the screen
On the non-awful side of the spectrum, the Angry Video Game Nerd is getting a movie too.

I'll just leave this here then . . .
How timely. She probably only published when she saw this was released: http://cinemassacre.com/2011/06/30/overanalyzers-8-datas-dick/

Re:I think they glossed over some of his history
http://www.cinemassacre.com/2010/08/21/top-10-shitty-shatner-movies/
The 70's weren't good to the Shat. That and Star Trek V. The only reason there were so many horses in that movie is because he liked them.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's Generations you're thinking of, as someone else pointed out. Still, I think Star Trek V would have been a much better movie if there were more horses and less huge floating head aliens hiding in the center of the galaxy pretending to be gods. At least "Star Trek V: Kirk rides horses and maybe punches a couple Klingons" wouldn't have made me want to kill myself.
V had horses too, they landed their shuttle a good distance from the settlement and rode horses in (spock does a neck pinch on one of them).

AVGN
AVGN at http://cinemassacre.com/ have singlehandedly done what the OP is thinking is a problem. HUGE database of documentation about various consoles. Including the odyssey etc. - Can't just the spend a couple of millions on AVGN and That Guy with the glassed ( http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/ ).

Residential customers don't need a web server, though.
Tell that to Cinemassacre.

Re:well that explains
James Rolph aka Angry Video Game Nerd made an ameture video lampooning the guy Mario was named after.

Re:Old games
Sometimes I think we look back on old games with too much nostalgia. Whilst there are undoubtedly some really good games, a lot of them were just an exercise in frustration and slow methodical progress - something I don't derive much enjoyment from any more.

maybe the problem is
maybe the problem is that religious games (I don't know even one counter example) focus to much on conveying the religion and to little on stuff like A STORY, or GAMEPLAY... they're like most educational games, they just AREN'T FUN TO PLAY.

AVGN
Wow
It looks like this guy just discovered the angry video game nerd video files, spent the weekend watching them all, and rehashing every complaint made in those videos for hardware on his own site in text format with the humor stripped out.
I would say it is a good list, if it wasn't for the fact I've seen all of these problems complained about in one place before

Re:Oh my
Here's his home page, linking all the AVGN videos.

Re:Yep
If you do not believe the parent, just check this site out.

It's a satirical show about shitty games from the past atari/NES/SNES/PS1/etc.
Looking at several episodes of it I can conclude one thing, there were some very good games but some games simply SUCKED MONKEY BALLS.Fortunately, we humans can easily repress those feelings. Just don't make me play Deadly Towers again.

Angry Videogame Nerd tackled the ghost busters games in a 3-part video series...

Re:Retro games not so go
Garbage games have always been produced. Angry Nintendo Nerd illustrates some of them. I think people who talk about a drastic decline in story and gameplay are exaggerating. There have been lots of games with outstanding gameplay and story, for all platforms.
