Reports are coming in that the initial shipment of PSP units is seeing some defective units getting to the public.
These defects include:
Dead pixels, as many as 3 per screen with the problem.
Broken UMD drives.
Analog nubs not working. Sony has yet to make any official announcement about any of these issues, and about how users with any of these problems can recitfy them.
Be sure to check back for Sony's response to these issues. UPDATE: More problems ahoy!
Analog nubs not just not working, but actually falling off.
PSP is turned on, but does not start up.
Screen has air bubbles. Screen has dust on the inside.
Also, as for the UMD drive problems, some have reported the drive not closing completely, and the UMD, when the PSP is twisted, actually flies out!
Most retailers are stressing the fact that these problems don't occur in the majority of PSPs, but take caution in importing until Sony gives an official announcement.

Re:The Mars rovers....
Those Mars Rovers are badass. I'm really impressed with the US engineering that went into them. Especially to land 2 on each side in a short amount of time, go through some minor problems, and then re-correct them. It's really cool that they lasted longer than anyone expected too. Actually these sites still seem to be responding well. I guess not everyone is on a shared server.

Re:Computer Shopper disappointed long ago...
Dang! I wish you guys were still reading in August when I was their site of the month. You can see a scanned copy of the article here. I was a big fan back in the day too when they had the thick version. It was almost unreal that you could get a phonebook sized magazine for $2. I got the hard copy with the issue of my site of the month, and the articles are more general computing. Not as much shopping as I would have though.

Re:what??
If they have the cargo space to haul all that stuff up there in the first place, you'd think they would have some room to bring the trash back with them for disposal here on Earth.

Trace the money
Can anyone explain how this actually works? Same with spammers too. If you transfer money, I'd think there would be an electronic trail of the money being transferred. After 9/11 they traced bank account of suspects, why can't they do it all the time? A lot of spam also generates sales, but why can't the money trail be followed to catch the bad guys?

Skewed results?
Amazon has one of the best affiliate programs in existance. Anyone with a website can easily sign up with Amazon to make some money off selling items. I wonder if A9 will automagically find sites that have amazon links and rank them higher? It seems like they could help mazimize their revenue that way.

Music distribution is not for everyone...
Why must everyone be involved with music these days? Pepsi, Coke, Starbucks....
What's next? I'm going to get a free song with a Happy Meal? I guess there are a lot of execs out there that think if you don't offer music in one way or another, then you must be doomed. I esitmate that in a few years, we will be back to several high quality music choices.

Mr. Wizard rocked. Definately one of the better shows on Nickelodeon in the day. I'm not sure if it's still or in syndication these days as I don't have cable, but it was a great show to learn growing up. Check out these facts from the pre Nickelodeon days

Re:No it wasn't!
Jason Jepson seems a little paranoid. Sometimes you have to take the heat to make some $$$. Controversial topics are usually pretty lucrative. It definately stirs up the interest in a product. While I personally wouldn't want to be caller-id spoofed, I think he should give the idea a chance. Like another poster pointed out, the companies will soon wise up and prevent the caller-id spoofing. Until then, try to make a few bucks.

Re:The 49-day limit.
Not to bash open source products, but if you find a problem how are you going to go about getting it fixed? Sure you might be able to code around the problem, but you don't have any support contracts to really get it fixed.

Like Eyetoy?
Sony has something similar with the EyeToy. It's doens't really make cartoons, but will put you live in the action of a video game. It probably woudn't be too hard for them to add some filters to "cartoonize" the video.

Nextels aren't too bad of cell phones. In fact many of them are pretty cheap to be had. Ex: http://www.dealsites.net/livedeals+index-mode-sea
r ch-query-nextel.html. I don't own one, but I do get annoyed with that walkie talkie crap. I do know people that get better service with Nextel vs competing carriers though.

Re:Why steal software?
If my job depended on it, I'd fork out the money. If you are a hobbyest, use something cheaper. Adobe offers rebates on thier add on packages. I don't track Photoshop, but I bet they probably offer discounts and specials from time to time.

Linux software vs Windows software
I say we start a thread here listing the best Linux software package that compete directly vs windows software and describe why the linux software is better (or worse if it actually is) and why you like it. Many people usually don't know which linux packages are the best and it takes an experienced linux user to point out the packages that are must have. ie:
Apache vs IIS
Apache is free and has less security problems
Mozilla vs IE
ditto above
the GIMP vs Photoshop
Not a graphics person here... Need help.
Please list more.

Why steal software?
Why steal software? Many software packages are reasonably priced, and many are offered with rebates and upgrade coupons. See more here
On the other hand, most of the truely great apps are written for linux. They are usually feature packed, have very little security problems, etc.. Examples would be MythTV, Apache, MySQL, the GIMP, Mozilla and Firefox, etc... The list goes on!
