It is possible to build one
Motherboards can be found at http://www.macresq.com and http://www.shrevesystems.com/ although a lot of times they are refurbished and processors new can be found here http://www.sonnettech.com/ and http://eshop.macsales.com/ . Of course if you have time all these things can be found on http://www.ebay.com/. And for everything else use http://www.pricewatch.com/ for ram, video card, etc. As for specifications on each board starting from g3s go to http://www.info.apple.com/support/applespec.html.

Legal?I think the question comes down to:
Are you legally allowed to sell your copy of Windows 2K to a third party?
If you are, then they should be able to add the "price" of the licenses to the price of the company and list it as an asset.
If you're not, then this makes more sense.
A search for "Microsoft Windows" on ebay returns 1040 results.

Re:Dumbest question ever
But, contrary to popular opinion, Superman's not just dumb muscle. He's pretty damn smart himself. And he knows that Batman has the kryptonite, and can plan for that. It's not a simple case of brains vs brawn, since Superman has both.
Purely from an intellectual stand-point, Superman has absolutely nothing on Batman. Superman isn't dumb muscle, but in no way is he even close to Batman's level. From the very beginning this has been well documented, and that is why Batman is such a great hero.
Since I'm arguing about a fictional flying man, I'd better not respond to that one. :)
When DKR/DKR2 came out, I was so relieved as my playground arguments were valid. Batman really does win. If you haven't read this I would recommend it. Wonderful story ^_^ -
Why does everyone keep saying how rare these are?
There's a couple on eBay And at $41.00, not too expensive.

obEbay link
All this talk about them being so rare...are they really?
Here's one and another SX-64.
Not trying to troll here. I happen to collect (original, full size) arcade machines from the eighties, so I understand the pain when I see one gutted.

Re:You're missing the point:YEAH 10 YEARS AGO
Maybe 10 years ago your statement would have been true...
But go on e-bay and you will find a ton of old sun boxes, i've seen IPC's for 5 dollars, 5 fucking dollars for a system that was not engineered to be a "Genereal Purpose" box.
Here's a few links randomly grabbed from e-bay. (Note this is better stuff than IPX/IPC's..)
Sun
Ultra Enterprise 2 200 MHz 256 MB Server $61.00
Sun
Ultra Enterprise 2,1024MB,2x300MHz,9GB $405.00
Sun
Ultra 10 Workstation w/ 21in Monitor $575
Yeah, 10 years ago, I would have totally agreed with you. But today, sun hardware is easy to get, and why fuck yourself with hardware that isn't going to retain it's resale value or less than server class construction? Why even bother with desktop 3 layer process motherboards that needs heatsinks up the ass for overclocked, overworked IO glue chips when you could have something that was built right the first time for the same price?
You must buy a lotta crack with that Solaris cert you got, cause your reasoning makes me think you're crack smokin.

Re:How was it done?Did you bother looking at the article to see if you might be remotely correct? Because that conclusion can't be a result of the post. In fact, it can only be a result of your kneejerk blind automatic response.
For you and the others who didn't bother reading the article: some scuzbag broke into the Abi account and used it to pay for an eBay auction. As a result, I suspect it will be not-extremely-difficult to catch this wacko (as he had to have it shipped.) I sincerely hope that all parties involved pursue this to the extent of the law.
I also am a little uneasy about PayPal. I use it frequently and haven't had any major problems, but I am aware that there are people who have been royally screwed. I hope that the new management (eBay) bring a new level of customer responsiveness to the company. -

eBay's been using heavy-handed tactics for a while
Remember when Microsoft signed on as a buddy and had eBay cancel hundreds of legal Windows sales under the guise of stopping piracy? eBay even had all those hundreds of negative ratings of the Microsoft buddy account set to neutral. After the big flap over it, it disappeared. Used to be here.

Re:Except they're not, if you had RTFA
The guy's web site clearly states that he complied with all E-Bay rules. He is the copyright owner, which he stated in his listings.
You can't list any CD-R, except blank ones. See rules. I've sold many motherboards and other computer hardware on ebay, and used to provide a CD-R with updated drivers on it. But my competitors started reporting me to safe harbor (ebay gestapo) and my auctions got pulled. The rule is: no CDR's. He did break that rule.

Re:Is eBay the most appropriate venue for indies?eBay does have fixed-price sales now. It's been wonderful for me, as an "indie DJ". Granted, I can't make $15/disc, but I move a sh*tload at $5 each. People seem to enjoy work that's untainted by corporate record production.
Check out my current auctions!

Re:Fair Play
here is one. That is a bootleg. I found it on my first search, too.
This one will probably be caught since the record label that was going to put it out (Caroline) has been aggressively stopping bootleggers... Since they still want to put it out eventually (legal battles within the band have kept it from coming out officially).
It'll probably definitely get caught now that I've linked it on /. My apologies to the seller! -
For those that don't get thereThe suggestion for what you can do to help is this:
If you're an eBay member, login to eBay, go to the Rules and Safety area and send them the following note, or something similar. You might even "accidentally" send it twice.
"Why won't you give haydenswall an answer?"Hmm, I wonder if they follow RFC's and read postmaster@ebay.com and webmaster@ebay.com?

I have someone stealing MY music....in Germany!!...at the same time, I actually have another eBay user reselling my CD's for profit in Germany!!! Last week, while playing on the eBay worldwide search function, I ran across these:
My Deep House CD
Another pirated CDContrast that to a *real* listing.
So, basically, this guy bought my box-set back in July. He's been duplicating my CD's and selling them in the German market for months. Despite the blatant infringement (he even took my HTML), I don't think I have any recourse. Heck, it's sorta flattering.
-
Re:What the.....
Hell, I don't care if people have bad taste. The real kicker is this search. What the hell do they think they're doing?
-
Re:Odd, really.
I'm complained a dozen times about auctions like this where someone is selling material that obviously violates TSR's copyright. Yet the response every time is that the owner of the copyright has to make the complaint.
-
Re:CD-R? Because it is.
Well, I've been selling my DJ mix CD's on eBay for several years now. My best seller is an 8-CD box set. Yes, these are CD-R's, as most duplication houses won't press *real* CD's in quantities of less than 1000. (Plus, this way, I have greater control over inventory) Of the 1500+ CD's I've sold in the past two years on eBay, only three buyers ended up with unplayable CD's. In those cases, I refunded their money or tried an alternative means of distribution (i.e. CD-RW discs that work in machines where CD-R's don't....or duplication at lower speeds). That's the right thing to do.
-
I'm an independent House DJ........and I've been selling my house mix CD's for over two years on eBay to VERY favorable reviews. I mix these live at home, or record live sets from my club gigs. I duplicate using CD-R's, since most duplication houses won't press REAL CD's in quantities of less than 1000 units.
I've never had an issue with eBay throughout all of this. I don't state explicitly in the auction listings that these are CD-R's. That's unnecessary information. It's all about the content at that point. I think their violation-detection process is poor. I've had auctions forcefully cancelled for using words like "ass" (as in "Funky-ass house mix CD") or using the real titles of some of the raunchier tracks I play. It happens, though.
If y'all want to hear some good house music, hit up my website.

Okay, so I can go on Ebay, and buy these, but I can't buy a burned CD-R of an indie band's music?
Where's the sense in that?

21in CRTs
I was in the market for a larger flatscreen since my 4 year old Hitach superscan elite CRT was showing its age. After looking around, there was no way I was going to pay $2000 for a 21in LCD when good 21in CRT's are available on ebay for less than $300. I ended up purchasing a Sony CDP-G520P at NewEgg. Its flat. its 21in, and its silver so it will match everything else since silver seems to be dominate color these days. Whenever someone walks in to my room the first thing the comment on is the monitor. Stick with CRT unlesss you can deal with a 15in LCD.

Online Moving Management ServiceThere is one online moving service: eBay.
You just list everything that you own on eBay and send it out. When you're at your new apartment you go back on eBay and have the same things delivered. eBay has categories for everything, so all your stuff will be nicely organized.

The Birth of Anonymous Hero-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Moderation is a game. The only way to win is not to play.
What is the value of a dollar? The answer is that a dollar is worth as much as the government says it is worth. Money is a game we play to create scarcity in the face of abundance; it is a means of keeping track of something imaginary. So what is a Karma point worth? Well, it's worth whatever CmdrTaco says it's worth. Karma is an imaginary thing that has gained value through an electronic construct. sound familiar? The truth is that Slashdot is in many ways the first of the Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Games. Before the first castle in Ultima Online, there was a user with the most Karma to blow.
Slashdot has changed quite a bit since those days. We have a strict levelling system defined now. Here are the various levels you can achieve, and the powers you are granted at each level:
Levelling up
Last I checked, here are the various levels in the vast Role Playing Game that is Slashdot:
(Your score in the game is called 'karma'):
- Score: -24 to -10: Ghost. Ghost players attack (post comments) with a -1 threshold, making them unable to hit any target except those who choose to be hit. Ghost players are limited to two attacks per day, and the label 'Terrible' is placed next to their name.
- Score: -9 to -1: Zombie. Zombie players attack with a threshold of Zero, making only their subject lines visible and reducing the effectiveness of their attacks. Zombie players, like ghost players, can only attack twice per day, and the label 'Bad' is placed next to their name.
- Score: Zero: Dying player. In this transitional state, a player appears to be a normal player, but the label 'Neutral' is placed by their name to signal that they are close to death.
- Score: 1-12: Journeyman. A journeyman player can attack ten times a day with a score of one. The label 'Positive' is placed by their name.
- Score: 12-25: Adventurer. An Adventurer attacks with the same effectiveness as a journeyman, but has the label 'Good' placed by their name.
- Score: 26-50: Sword Saint. A sword saint can devastate his opponents in combat, attacking with a bonus of +2 and flaming them up to twenty-five times per day. Sword Saint players have a distinct advantage, but they are not invincible.
Player killing
So how do you turn a Sword Saint into a Ghost? Well, player killing is alive and well on Slashdot. I'm not going to go into the details of player killing in this article, but suffice it to say that it is possible to defend yourself from normal players but not from Editors. The best way to defend yourself is to create as many separate accounts as you can, and continue levelling them up. This is very time consuming, and it's one way to keep you 'hooked' on the game.
Guilds
Guilds are a recent addition to the game of Slashdot, and they were retro-fitted and bolted on in much the same manner that many MMORPG's added guild support after product launch due to massive player demands. Basically, Guilds allow you communicate more easily with your allies and gain bonuses to your attacks when attacking enemies, though these bonuses are temporary and cannot be used for player killing.
How do I win the game?
Before addressing how to win the Slashdot MMORPG, it's important to look at how other similar games are won. For instance, how do you win at Ultima Online? I believe the answer to that is that if you play, you have already lost. The only people winning in the MMORPG market are Origin, Microsoft, Verant, et al, i.e. the people taking your money. The more time you spend playing, the more time you spend losing. While you are questing for karma, trying to get just one more level, you are losing. Perhaps the only way to win is not to play.
Consider for a moment that when you mark another account as a foe, you assign a numeric penalty to that person's comments which causes you to never view them again. This means you have judged everything this person will ever say in advance, and deemed those future words not worth viewing. You have prejudged them. You are engaging in automated prejudice. How do you explain that to your kids?
The only way to win is not to play
The game is a construct not just to waste your time but to manipulate what you say. If you have ever altered what you post to Slashdot because of fear of karma retribution or the possiblity of a karma reward, then you have bowed to the pressure of an artificial system, a plastic reality placed upon you in order to control you.
I challenge you to break free of the system. You can still post comments to Slashdot without playing the game. You can do it very easily. Just post everything as an anonymous coward. How will people know it's you? Use you public key to sign your comments. If everyone did this, the game would be over, and everyone would win. It's a huge prisoner's dillema, to be sure, but only if you are still worried about getting a high score.
This journal is probably being read by quite a few Sword Saints thinking to themselves 'how can I afford to stop attacking with my +2 bonus??'. Stop thinking inside the box. It's probably harming your brain.

Cheap hardware solution
Get a digital effects module with a delay feature

I have an Alesis Nanoverb that I use for sound design work. You can get them on Ebay for under $100. Acording to the specs you can get over 1200ms delay per channel (loop left out to right in for 2400ms or about 2.5 seconds). Correcting the delay involves turning a nice analog knob.
The Alesis QuadraVerb has a full 5 seconds of delay per channel and should do the trick for you for about $130 .

Re:Why Console Companies Use Copy Protection
You assert that there's no point to modchips, but there are some cases where it's a real no-brainer. Compare the cost of a Saturn mod chip (around $30) with the insane collector prices of the more notable games. You do the math.
And you only have to solder one wire in this case. A chimp could almost do it.
DISCLAIMER: I do not support or condone the above actions which make perfect economic sense.
