Re:Quality? The DC240/DC260/DC265/DC290 models were the pinnacle of Kodak digital cameras. After them Kodak completely lost its focus on useful hardware and started rolling out web services and gimmicks.
That said, I'm very happy with my new A$140 fixed-focus 4 Megapixel point 'n click Kodak. The optical zoom on my DC260 still makes it preferable for anything more than a couple of meters away, but for mindless snapping the cheap new Kodak is quite good. You can see an example of what I was able to take with three cameras at a recent yaughting event here.

Re:that's huge!
Or if you are in Japan and want a nice traditional cheap hostel-style room, then find a 'ryokan' somewhere.
I'd seriously like to know where you found an actual cheap ryokan.
In my (limited) experience, a ryokan will be traditional and charming, but always somewhere from "quite a lot more expensive than the usual business hotel" to "you have got to be kidding, I could buy these square feet in Tokyo with that kind of money".
That's not to say a ryokan isn't worth the stay; on the contrary. If you're vacationing in Japan, go for the ryokan over the boring hotel every time.
But again, if you're adventurous, take one night or two at a love hotel; the experience really is worth it. My local favourite is "Chapel Christmas", where it's Christmas every day of the year: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jannem/75774506/ -

Re:Question on immunization
In my almost professional (not quite finished with med school) opinion, the answer would be no. Think of all the vaccinations we have to date, and how few (if any) mutations there have been that have evaded vaccinations.
The immune system is different from antibiotics because it will kill all of the critters. There is also a systemic response, fever, sequestering copper and iron, lowering blood glucose levels etc...ABs do this (not in entirety)...and AB have the side effect of killing your natural flora as well, which can predispose you to secondary infections (see C. difficile in people on broad spectrum AB)
Vaccinations contain attenuated/dead/non-virulent organisms, with their full complement (not an immuno joke...though it could be) of surface proteins, glycoproteins, etc... Your body will recognize several of these sites as foreign and produce antibodies to them. This aids their destruction through phagocytosis, and other nasty things like membrane attack complexes.
It would take something tantamount to a complex change of presentation for some organism to avoid a vaccination.

The exam was the next day. We had put off studying the horrible thing until the last possible moment.
And it happened RIGHT HERE. Oh the trauma. -
Not impressed
"A new robot can recognize the difference between a mirror image of itself and another robot that looks just like it.
... The ground-breaking technology could eventually lead to robots able to express emotions."
My dog sees herself in the mirror and thinks it's another dog. Then she expresses emotions to the other dog. Dogs are clearly way ahead of robots. You can buy a robot that vacuums the floor, but you won't find one that poops on the floor. -

14-year old Seagate running open
Just yesterday, I ran a 14-year-old Seagate drive (a whole 100 megabytes) with the cover off. And took pictures.
The drive still runs fine. No bad sectors from this ordeal.
For what it's worth, this isn't the first time I've done this trick (although it is the first time I took pictures). A few years ago, I ran an ancient 120MB drive with the top off, hoping to create bad sectors to test a disk imaging utility I was working on. That drive remained annoyingly error-free for a week before I killed it with a screwdriver.
It was a Maxtor, for what that's worth. -
Good thing I already have my mythTV box...
..., A/V reciever, speakers, iPod, NC headphones and everything else used to enjoy analog signals. I would not mind keeping all this equipment for at least 10 years as long as it means being able to put SNL on my iPod. I used to think DRM zealots were idots for thinking that they could ever close the analog loop and prevent music that is capable of being listened to from being copied freely. I hope this Bill is shot down on the basis of the enourmous economic hardship it will place on electronics manufacturers.

Hot? Not a chance. Not to be mean or anything but my grandma looks better.
I can't really find much about her, just a bunch of quotes by her - I agree with the parent though, she doesn't seem to know much about MMO* games. Maybe she's more of a FPS game manager, that's sure what it sounds like from her comments. -

Re:News to me...
You should. Yahoo has refocused itself and is starting to be a serious competitor to Google. Things Yahoo has done recently:
Partnered with Six Apart to pre-install Movable Type on their small business hosting
Purchased Del.icio.us
Launched Yahoo Answers
Launched Yahoo Shoposphere
Launched a new version of Yahoo Maps
Launched Yahoo Blog Search
Launched Yahoo Podcasts
Purchased Konfabulator
Launched Yahoo My Web 2.0
Purchased Flickr.com
Yahoo will also soon be launching a new version of Yahoo Mail which will include AJAX/DHTML tech they got from their purchase of Oddpost, RSS, an API and additional design updates. -

Re:Anyone try Pepsi Kona?
Pepsi is already marketing a coffee flavored cola in much of Asia. I personally bought it in Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam (both Hanoi and HCMC) just a few weeks ago... Interesting flavor, although I'm not sure I'd buy it on any sort of regular basis. In Vietnam it was marked "Pepsi Cafe Da" and in Thailand it was "Pepsi Latte" I'm not gonna bother trying to figure out how to make Khmer letter to describe the cambodia brand though...

Re:And...
4: enforce limits on the number of bookmarks that people can have, or charge for "premium" services (del.icio.us right now is unlimited bookmarks, free.)
Based on what information? Oh, you're making this just up? Sorry, must've missed that.
Well for one thing, it went from a 100MB upload limit per months on a free account down to 10MB, after the merge. I'm pretty sure there's been a reduction in the number of sets you can create too, but I own a pro account now, so can't say.5: and worst of all, make us merge our yahoo and del.icio.us accounts.
Again, looking at Flickr, that didn't happen.
Th merge started in August 2005, and will be enforced starting January 2006.And if it does, I'm not entirely unhappy. I don't want hundreds of online identities
Well, I do. See, I like having choice, and Yahoo! does not leave me much here. -
Buttes announces victory over FlockButtes Announces Victory over Flock
Buttes Announces Victory over Flock(Palo Alto, CA. - DEVELOPING) The Buttes Foundation, a non-for-profit organization dedicated to empowering tomorrow through trolling today, announced victory over the Flock browser and the piddling company behind it. The announcement took place during a packed session at the Scientology center in Mountain View. Very important Buttes operative rolloffle said he found the air deliciously clear of thetans and other impediments in the pursuit of a good troll.
"Quite simply, Flock sucks," opined Buttes spokesman Khaled to an appreciative audience. "But not only does it suck; it is also a failure", he added to nods of agreement. On the wall was a complicated graph showing blogging activity regarding the dead-on-arrival "Social Browser". Khaled pointed to a sharp color change in the second quadrant which corresponded with the introduction of the Go Flock Yourself weblog, which has been detailing the worthlessness of Flock, its authors, and its fans since shortly after the introduction of the ill-fated application.
"As you can see here," said Khaled, "blogging activity about Flock turned decidedly negative after we began to expose its shortcomings". He then added "we also got Scoble to comment on our blog", pausing a minute before saying "lol". Shouts of "roflmao" and "you da man" erupted spontaneously from the crowd.
Rolloffle took over at that point, elaborating on the negative attention Flock has received, and finishing with Buttes's mea culpa, the eradication of the giant Flock advertisement from wordpress.com's front page. While the administrators of WordPress have not returned requests for comment at this time, it can only be assumed that the Go Flock Yourself blog (proudly featured on the front page since shortly after its inception) has made association with Flock a costly and embarrassing proposition.
During a busy Q&A session, the brainchild behind Go Flock Yourself, a diminutive Canadian who goes by the name "Screaming Eagle USA", offerred to clarify the role of the popular weblog now that Flock has officially failed. "Go Flock Yourself is designed to empower the sarcastic and trollish masses of the internet to drop a big, steaming turd all over Web 2.0 and all of its extravagances." Screaming Eagle displayed a slide of recent posts about say-so, yellowikis, and Squidoo, demonstrating a pattern of hard-hitting journalism that leaves no worthless, dollar-stuffed startup with its "perpetual beta" web application untouched. "Our victory over Flock will allow us to leverage all of our core competencies, maximizing ROI across skill domains, in order to architect the synergistic folksonomies that will empower the anti-Web 2.0 revolution."
About Buttes:
The Buttes Foundation is a group of trolls and ne'erdowells that has successfully terrorized the Something Awful forums through its internet terrorist offshoot Team Barry. In recent years, Buttes has expanded the reach of its deadly ruyn-rays to the world's telephone networks and now the blogosphere. More information on Buttes is available at Encyclopedia Dramatica.
About Flock:
Flock is an amateurish fork of Firefox which adds various extensions of marginal utility that integrate unaffiliated services (del.icio.us, flickr, etc.) directly into the browsing experience. Flock also includes a substandard blogging tool which even its most diehard users have had a hard time adopting. Flock is currently burning through approximately $1 million of venture capital, after which point it will promptly fold after failing to b -
But what if the women playing are big-breasted??
A well-considered piece, with thoughtful references to the works of Camille Paglia and Naomi Wolf. From the article: "He also highlights several games that, instead of focusing on the female form in its big-breasted glory, showcase women who are intelligent, strong, and powerful.
If you want to make money selling video games, give the customer what he wants. Otherwise you're just fighting human nature. Perfect example, take a look at this photo of Verena Vlaj, the only female out of the 700 contestants at the World Cyber Games in Singapore last week (and who in interviews appears to be intelligent and good-humored) and tell me that the photographer was framing the shot to put her intellectual assets in focus. --Chris -
Re:The chains have been brokenSpeaking from inside the Web 2.0 sphere (in which we get our oxygen by breathing liquid fluorocarbons, just like in The Abyss), people here are aware of (and somewhat amused by) the buzzword nature of "Web 2.0," but we also see that the technology is extremely useful and has the chance to change how people use computers and software.

Photos of my Baby
First of all, 50% is a conservative estimate. I've even seen Time Warner cable guys screw up the aspect ratio because they're not familiar with every TV's menu system.
Most "HDTVs" have a resolution of 1024x768 or lower. The two common HD specs (720p and 1080i) have resolutions of 1280x720 and 1920x1080. I took some photos of my Dell 2405FPW which has component inputs and a resolution of 1920x1200.
This is what HD is supposed to look like. Here is another, check out the detail on his jacket zipper.
If you really want a good picture stick to the tube based HDTVs. Sony has a good 34 incher. The LCDs are high resolution but they're not great with lots of motion. I have a tube based HDTV in the living room for sports and freaks people out. -

Two thingswall st analysts are initiating a downgrade and sell
Mmm.. no. The market as a whole dropped yesterday, supposedly because of inflation fears.
i used to respect Yahoo back in the early 90's , now they are just another desperate american advertising company
Well, they are American. I suppose that's good cause to loathe them, if that's your thing. But lately Yahoo has been changing quite a bit. Perhaps you haven't noticed, but after they purchased Flickr, they've been "flickrizing" their apps at a fairly rapid clip. They're overhauling the interfaces to their key apps. Some of their beta apps are work very well and are a pleasure to use. It's easy to add new Yahoo services without getting tied into any Passport-like crap. You can use the apps you like and disregard the ones you don't like.
They're not first to market, but they're restructing their whole approach to provide regular non-geeks the opportunity to exchange information, establish online communities, create their own blogs, and so on. It's not the Google approach, which is tool-centric. Yahoo is remaking itself as what AOL could have become if it had any brains. As for being an "advertising company" maybe you haven't compared Google web apps to Yahoo web apps lately.

Re:Google News
Your argument makes no sense whatsoever.
Google Images: no ads. Not beta.
Gmail: Ads. Beta.
Google News: No ads. Beta.
Flickr: Beta. Pro accounts cost money.
Google News is in beta because it hasn't been improved in three years. "Beta" doesn't mean that a product is not distributed for profit; it just means that its creator doesn't want to hear griping from its user base. -
