2nd scenario seems better ...
Your second scenario seems better. Better for $PRESIDENT and $EXECUTIVE_BRANCH_POLITICIANS.
Because in such case they successfully eliminated a lot of power from the people and can do as they please. For example even do some terrorist attack themselves from time to time to for example "remind the people" as to why it is important to fight agains terrorism by all means available etc.
Of course quite a lot of people alredy were thinking abount such scenario so as to not post too long a list I pick examples from the "entertaning pool": 1984, Animal farm, Fahrenheit 451, Brazil, Æon Flux, Enemy of the state,

There was a Quincy episode with that same plot line many ages ago. Quincy figured it out though so don't rely on that plan too much.

CNN HQ Stormed By Elite GNAA Operatives, Classified 9/11 Information Broadcast
pagga (GNAP) - Manchester, AfghanistanFollowing a covert infiltration of their Tel-Aviv headquarters by a crack team of elite GNAA agents, Zionist news organization CNN today publicly declassified top-secret information regarding the September 11 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, information which was until now actively supressed by the Zionist Occupied Governments of the West. Thousands of jewish viewers across America choked on their evening halvah (muslim babies) as, in a primetime broadcast, Paula Zahn (herself a latent jew) was forced at dongpoint to reveal the awful truth behind the 9/11 attacks which the rest of the civilized (read: non-judaic) world has long suspected: Jews Did WTC.
Fast-forwarding past the 1080p CP on the greasy HD-DVD handed to them by bedpan, the CNN production team played back the devastating GNAA-compiled footage whilst Paula Zahn held back a rectal prolapse to present their findings. Irrefutable proof from highly credible sources (such as regarded public information portals jewsdidwtc.com & Encyclopedia Dramatica) was disclosed in order to finally put an end to the debate. In the interests of equal representation, a token jew was present for the post-footage discussion, together with a panel of gay niggers.
In the unlikely event that you missed this historic broadcast, it has been archived at JewTube.
Want to know more? See the proof for yourself @ http://www.jewsdidwtc.com and Encyclopedia Dramatica.

Re:TV LicencingThe idea of TV licensing has always troubled me, and radio licenses doubly so. There's a saying here in the US that derives from an early Supreme Court case, and it says "the power to tax is the power to destroy". Now, think about that for a moment. Are you comfortable giving the government power to destroy television and/or radio communications?
Well its just as well that the goverment does not get the UK licence fee it goes direct to the BBC I suppose the BBC could destroy itself but then thats not really in its best interest. There is no such thing as a Radio Licence (unless you count a Ham Radio Licence)
Personally I'm rather happy with the Licence Fee For 11 pounds ($21) a month I get 5 TV channels 11 radio channels (all of which are actually worth watching/listening to) plus Audio (and soon video) on demand and one of the best websites in the world. and on top of that we get an organization that considers it its job to ask the goverment (and opposition) awkward questions
What do you get for $21/month?
After seeing a few Holocaust-type films where people secretly listen to the BBC broadcasts on shortwave while their nation is occupied by the Axis during World War II, you might begin to get the notion that this freedom sort of freedom is a good thing. Why should it ever be a crime to listen to someone else's over-the-air broadcasts?Ah they would be listening to the BBC World Service Founded in 1932 its not funded by the Licence fee, its funded from UK taxes by the UK goverment (specifically the Foreign Office)
(Especially if they're intended for general public distribution and not, say, intercepting cell phone conversations and such... and, of course, actually broadcasting, of course, is a whole 'nother kettle o' fish...)
I wonder if subscription channels will take this view.

Re:Why iTunes?
I'm reminded of the excellent Michael Caine & Ben Kingsley comedy Without a Clue, in which Dr. Watson actually solved all of Holmes' cases, but Holmes got all the PR.
Watson tried to strike out on his own, but no one took "John Watson, the CRIME DOCTOR!" very seriously and would only consider what he said when Holmes would repeat it. -

Fake tears yesterday and todayFake tears have been around since well before film: A few drops of glycerine will brim beautifully, and it has refractive qualities that real tears simply lack.
Fake everything is used in movies all the time, and always has been. Have you seen Psycho? In the shower scene, that's not blood -- it's not even red. It's chocolate syrup. And in the original, unadulterated Star Wars, Luke's landspeeder is actually mounted on the arm of a centrifuge, with the camera at the pivot, so the desert in back really just goes around and around. Also, it was shot on Earth rather than a desert planet called Tatooine.
These tricks have been around for decades. The only thing even vaguely interesting this article says is that the faking that used to be done during a scene is now done afterwards. We don't need the old tricks anymore: They can be hacked in afterwards. All you need to do is make sure your actor has a tennis ball on a green stick to stare at, and you can chroma-key in whatever alien doohickey you care to. Think your alien needs fur instead of scales? No worries, no retakes -- you just drag and drop the right texture and you're done.
From the audiences point of view, it matters not one bit whether Ms. Connelly actually cried, or used glycerine, or had the tears added later. What matters is that we look at the screen and see sadness.

Re:Where this theory fails
What planet? RTFA, its 700 years to get from our solar system to the next nearest solar system. We're not talking light-speed here, we're talking about fusion-driven generation ship.
Well, perhaps smaller spacepods, lifeboats or "seedlings" could be launched from the generation ship as it travels along its 700 lightyear path to wherever. This would enable one generation ship to colonize multiple systems by benefit of getting the colonists 'half way there' along the way. The generation ships path(s) would ultimately appear as a branching tree with Earth at the base its trunk. This would be a more cost effective and productive scenario than launching multiple (huge) generation ships from Earth with each requiring the resources to make the entire trip.
At the end of the journey 50 generations later you end up with a starship crewed by CANNIBAL NAZIS.
I think both of these ideologies (Cannibals, Nazis) are Earth-bound concepts (terms). Consider that the initial generation of crew members could be raised onboard the ship while its construction is finalized in orbit between Earth and the moon. These people would not need to be educated in the "worst traits" of humanity and at the same time could be instilled with the highest regard for human (all) life, ethics and morality. They could be taught all the greatest aspects of religion without being exposed to the darker aspects of damnation and "hell" (e.g. they could be taught death is the end of life and so living a good life should be its own reward). The colonists could, as in the movie The Village, be raised in near total isolation from the rest of humanity. And this would also give them the benefit (?) of beginning the voyage disease free; unless passengers with fully built-up immune systems would improve their survivability.
Of course even the health/illness issue is catch-22 and perhaps best left for another discussion, do you want disease free humans or ones with fully developed immune systems who may at the same time carry germs with them.
A book I read that explored a few of these aspects was Voyage From Yesteryear by James P. Hogan. Also, the amount of biomass represented by a single individual is rather negligible depending on the size of the ship, or becomes diminishingly relevant as the size increases.
Thanks for continuing the dialog. Perhaps one day our comments will turn up in a global archive of ancient thoughts and be read by our children's children's children's... well, you get the idea.

A few things.
1) Her name is Jennifer Connelly. She's too hot to spell her name wrong. Here's her page on IMDB. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000124/
2) Until they can make CG characters as hot as Ms Connelly, I don't think actors and actresses will be going away.
3) Ever heard of stunt doubles? OMGWTFBBQFAKE!!1111eleven Well, now we have "tear doubles".
4) Perhaps if the movie industry starts putting out hyper-realistic shit with people who have no flaws and don't ever blink or breathe, it will become apparent to everyone that the media's view of beauty is distorted to a degree that cannot be achieved by real humans. And then, maybe, it will be okay for models to be of a healthy weight, because everyone knows they lost the pounds digitally.
I mean, they already put out hyper-realistic shit...I just hope it gets so excessive that there's no way everyone can't know. Did you ever see what makeup artists do to someone? Check out this Dove commercial. http://www.campaignforrealbeauty.com/flat4.asp?id= 6909 -

Re:No Post-Edit Clause
I have more respect for an actors that insists on a "No-post editing" clause and can proudly let everyone know that is the case.
In theory, perhaps. In reality, I think this is as often as not summed up by this quote from The Insider:
Mike Wallace: You cut it! You cut the guts out of what I said!
Eric Kluster: It was a time consideration, Mike...
Mike Wallace: Time? Bullshit! You corporate lackey! Who told you your incompetent little fingers had the requisite skills to edit me?Never underestimate the power of a Hollywood-size ego.

Films
One film that I think EVERYONE should watch is the Australian film "Malcolm" (1986). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091464/
Colin Friels portrays someone who appears to have Aspergers extremely well, and it's a very funny film to boot. You don't have any excuse not to get it, the Australian DVD is region 0 so it'll play in any DVD player as long as your setup can handle PAL format. -

Re:Go rent LOOKER
Al Pacino -- surprisingly -- was also in a very mediocre movie like that. It was called S1m0ne and was about two guys creating a virtual actress who everyone thought was real. Although it had the Pacino Monologue (tm), it was overall a pretty crappy movie that I watched on the overhead monitor on an ancient 737 while stuck on a 10 hour flight. I think they killed her in the end.

Wait, haven't I seen this movie?
They've just seen too many movies.
In the original Day of the Jackal, the inspector is trying to determine the source of a leak, probably coming from someone at the highest level. He finally determines that it's come from one of the ministers on the board that oversees his investigation. After announcing which minister was the source of the leak by playing a tape from a wire tap, one of the ministers asks "How did you know whose telephone to tap?"
His response, "I didn't, so I tapped them all."
UK residents, welcome to the Day of the Jackal! Don't worry, the US isn't far behind you.

Re:This is not good!
Id rather be someone like that, then a transitory pop icon like Elvis.
Come on, now. Do you know how much pussy Elvis got? Seriously?
Watch Elvis on Tour and you'll see what I mean.
Besides, Elvis has had staying power and a significant effect on culture...not unlike van Gogh who was trying quite hard to gain his own fame, or at least commercial success. Because it took his widow years after his death to make it happen, doesn't mean popularity was unimportant to his ultimate recognition.
