Re:Bad arguments
My data shows that populations expand more rapidly whenever there is a bump in prosperity.
The baby boomers of old America (1850s) appeared during the California Gold Rush; the baby boomers of modern time--the ones who keep getting old lately--came about during the 60s-70s, when our technology was expanding and the price of food and clothing was dropping rapidly. Economists frequently cite the development of agriculture--making food much more accessible--as creating a surge in human population growth; they cite the development of mathematics--allowing for better engineering and faster technical progress--as causing another sudden increase in human population growth.
All those points on that chart you didn't understand, all the spots where the slope suddenly increased and human population grew more rapidly, are points where technology advanced and created greater access to the means of living. Each inflection point where the population growth rate increased was a point when prosperity suddenly increased. It's why population grows as food prices fall.
That's the entirety of human history. Prosperity occurs and suddenly the human population starts growing faster to consume what's newly available. We see this pattern across thousands of years of history. It's the subject of many economic papers, and a basic tenant of economics that's stated as a known fact right at the beginning of papers which attempt to analyze this effect in more depth.
You may as well claim that pouring additional money into an economy faster than its growth doesn't cause inflation.

Re: Recession is really a depression
Congratulations on showing how much of an idiot you are. You don't even understand the difference between whole foods pricing, CPI or perishable goods, let alone the dry index. Go on, take a look at the actual indexing prices, I'll wait.
FYI, I live in Canada. I occasionally spend part of my winter in Florida. When the local Sweetbay aka Winn-dixie has a special on and beef is $6/lbs, you're really showing you don't know what you're talking about. This of course is this weeks prices, which are slightly better then normal...but not by much. Yes, very cheap at the non-whole foods in one of the poorer areas of central Florida.

Re:"Gas" = Electrons
You are going to stop more often to recharge than refuel.
You very rarely "stop to recharge" in an EV. You just charge at the same time as you are doing other things, such as sleeping or shopping.
You will stop longer.
The same applies. You are stopped there *anyway* so you aren't stopping longer.
Yes, if you try to drive 1000 km in a Leaf, it's not going to be fun. But that aren't designed for that. If you do it in a Tesla, their range and charging speed are well aligned to the typical human comfort requirements (drive 2.5 hrs -> stop 20 mins -> drive 2.5 hrs -> stop 60 minutes -> drive 2.5 hrs -> stop 20 minutes -> drive 2.5 hours). Sure, there are a minority of people who are like this but most people aren't.

Yeah, at least on the first glance the study doesn't seem exactly rigorous.
What I find hilarious though is some of these screeching retards seeing it, not questioning it at all (critical thinking is ableist anyway), and immediately blaming "The Patriarchy(TM)" instead. Because to them apparently, women are equal or better than men, yet at the same time they're entirely controlled by these equal or inferior men and have no agency of their own.

Screw Tess Holiday, she's a scammerShe has scammed her supporters numerous times the below text was taken from this link, to see the image gallery from the Reddit chain click here.
There's no doubt in my mind that you all know who Tess Holliday is. Founder of "Eff your beauty standards", plus size model, (apparent) body positivity icon.. oh, and scam artist! In November 2014 hundreds of her loyal fans purchased shirts with her "EYBS" branding emblazoned on them, also under the impression that a portion of the proceeds would be donated to a Domestic Violence charity (many fans have said that the reason they were able to justify spending $40 on a shirt is that they were glad that some of the money would to go a DV charity). Not only did hundreds of fans NEVER receive their shirts/merchandise, but not a single cent went to charity. Fans asked Holliday why they hadn't received their items yet via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, only to be blocked by her (Tess herself has admitted that she is in control of all of her social media accounts).
After several attemps by many disappointed fans, the Facebook group "Eff your Customer Service" began. With now 450 members, Holliday could no longer ignore the fans who had rallied against her.
The clothing company Redress took on Holliday's EYBS merchandising responsibilities, and tried their best to reimburse customers.
Still, many were disappointed that none of the proceeds from their purchases were going to the DV charity as they had been lead to believe. Holliday claims that the reason for this is because EYBS operated at a loss, despite doing their own packing, advertising and selling shirts at $40 each. Fans asked her why she couldn't just donate some of her own fortune to the charity to write her wrongs, however no comment was made. Holliday (whose real name is Ryann Maegan) claims to earn 6 figures, and her constant updates on her expensive lifestyle understandably angered fans who were left with no refund, no shirt, and no DV charity contribution.
Of course, making donations to things like Amber Rose's Slutwalk is no problem!
Holliday's scamming/thievery goes even further, as this image suggests. The identity of the person who made this comment is protected, as this Facebook group was a secret group where people could talk about their experiences with her without facing scrutiny from Holliday and her friends, who are constantly harassing anybody who speaks out about her.
Holliday is also known as a horrible person to work with. Despite claiming to be against traditional beauty standards and standing up for body positivity, many photographers who have worked with her in the past have said that they will never choose to work with her again.
Additionally, the plus size clothing company Torrid have severed ties with Holliday for a number of reasons.
In a Buzzfeed video, Holliday is seen claiming to be a size 22, while complaining about the fit of a pair of size 28 Torrid shorts, despite having modelled for them in the past.
Lastly, Holliday's general stalking-behaviour of people speaking out about her says a lot about what kind of person she is. She knows she's doing wrong, and she knows that people can tear her down if they need to.
tl;dr, Don't hate Tess Holliday because she's fat, hate her because she's a scam artist, liar, and generally a bad person. Her response to this? Blame everyone but herself in the press like here in People magazine, the comments sections are particularly informative about the fact that not everything has been addressed. Any group associated with this person is enabling a scam artist.

One of my forums this is still remembered - the toucan incident. Some user hotlinked a picture of a toucan in a thread. Next thing we know, the entire site is down due to a DMCA complaint.
Watch out!

I still think that there needs to be negative consequences for filing a false/bad DMCA request. If every bad request is met with a counter-suit, I'd imagine that they'd stop. If only because a $10 letter just became a $1000 hassle.

Re:Have you migrated to qbasic?
Like, the insane equality tables.
I've done so for several languages, and Javascript has one of the most sensible. I personally wouldn't have treated numeric strings as numbers, but it's a practical decision, especially considering that they also have strict equality.
NaN literally doesn't equal NaN.
Good. NaN == NaN would be terrible. Glad to see that js got it right.
Two words: global variables. If you've done any javascript, you know what I mean.
Two words: strict mode. I'd much have preferred it to work that way be default, but c'est la vie
Or have you ever tried to do any arithmetic in javascript?
That number is equal to 0.6 at 64-bit precision. Why blame the language for giving the correct answer? If anything, blame the debugging tool for choosing to render the number in a way that you don't like.

Re:Have you migrated to qbasic?
Or, alternatively, maybe javascript really isn't a great language for a number of reasons? Like, the insane equality tables. NaN literally doesn't equal NaN. Just google the truth table and behold the wonder.
What else? Two words: global variables. If you've done any javascript, you know what I mean. Or have you ever tried to do any arithmetic in javascript? -

Re:Interesting technology... meh...
The Segway is an overpriced novelty. Technology just for the sake of technology. The iBot had potential, but was overpriced. Now that it has been reclassified by the FDA, perhaps it will make economic sense and help some handicapped people.
I wonder how much the original FDA certification added to the cost of an iBot. And how much the reclassification will save. At some point, this is really just a fancy mobility scooter. And FDA certification doesn't seem to impose too much on their cost and safety.

Re: Stupid
A proper Russian made or officially licensed AK-47 which supports fully automatic firing? True... it'd take 9-12 months for your NFA paperwork to clear before you could take possession of the rifle.
You can however walk into oodles of gun stores and buy a knock off (AK-47 is probably the most patent infringed firearm in history) or maybe licensed version for a few hundred dollars.
A quick search turns up plenty, take this one which is only a 30 min drive from where I am sitting and the shop looks to close at 8pm today and as an FFL will run a background check on you should you show up to buy it in person.
So yes... you can just go down to the gun store and buy what most people will scream is an AK-47 if they see it: http://i.imgur.com/ueu7x5T.jpg

Re:Strong enough for a man, made for a woman
Actually, I think you don't understand Gamergate because it started with a jilted and angry ex-boyfriend's complaints about his game designer girlfriend's cheating ways. There was an accusation of sex traded for reviews, but there was never any evidence to support the accusation, not even superficially, since there was no such review.
Yep, absolutely no evidence at all.
In practice, that seems to be the same thing, in that most of the GameGaters that I've seen go ballistic over anyone saying anything even the slightest bit negative about their favourite games.
There are extremists in everything unfortunately. I personally don't give a shit how someone reviews a game, as long as it's factual and simply opinion. Trying to make an entire community conform to whiny, lying, bitches however is where I draw the line.
Lets not forget that Depression Quest was barely even a game.

Oh honey, I'm not a puppy of either stripe, I just enjoy watching them upset a bunch of tight-arses. As for Ms. Quinn, I expect to have a sensible chuckle in the unlikely event that Mr. Tingle actually wins and has her accept his award.
BTW, has it ever occurred to you that what really fuels the anti-SJW movement is you guys insisting on labeling anyone who disagrees with you as creeps, harassers, neckbeards, racists, man-children, bigots, misogynerds, etc. when 99% of the time the targets of your rage are in fact not those things? The gamergaters didn't get set off by a woman daring to whatever she did, but by the flood of stereotyping attack articles pushed by gamejournopros. -

Re:Warning: Healthy At Every Size supporter
Worrying. Ms. Aamodt has links to the Healthy at Every Size (HAES) obesity apologists. HAES are as insane as anti-vaxxers, only they believe medical science is a worldwide racist conspiracy against fat people. Oh, and if you don't want to buy into their excuses, you're literally oppressing them.
In short, I'm worried that she appears to be peddling snake oil to people who are very, very desperate to avoid having to take personal responsibility for their unhealthy lifestyles. Diet and Exercise work -- as part of a lifestyle change. We know this, we have known this for years.
The problem is that humans are extremely, extremely poor at making judgements about food, and we have an entire industry ("Big Food") dedicated into manipulating people into overeating and eating cheaply produced unhealthy garbage.
Since we're dealing with fat instead of race, the word "fatist" would apply instead of racist.
Just my $0.02 (adjusted for inflation - no pun intended).

Re: Pirate party
So, the Holocaust was just propaganda?
Pretty much. (documentary) Amazing what you'll find when you do a little fact checking. (photo gallery showing proof of Holocaust propaganda). The US had concentration camps too, big deal. Jews were deported from Spain, England, and 40+ other countries, but Germany did it last and so it's a big deal (who owns the media?) There was a Typhus epidemic in WWII and that's why German concentration camps had those interred shaved and washed, to save lives. Hitler believed that everyone should have a homeland and was going to deport Jews to the Galapagos since no one, not US nor Brittan or French would take the Jews (they had deported them before). When the allies were bombing they destroyed civilian and military targets, this caused starvation by disrupting supply lines. This allowed Typuhs to run rampant. The crematoriums found at the concentration camps were small and used to cremate the infected dead to keep from spreading deadly Typhus. Typhus makes you look like those "malnourished" photos of "holocaust victims", many of which weren't even taken in Germany, or were edited by propagandists.
Seriously though, you should do some fact checking. Just listen to anyone who actually fought, even US war heroes:
"Enemy troops are fair game: A driver in a jeep - zap him. A soldier running through the snow - zap him.
But we weren't always scrupulous about our target
Atrocities were committed by both sides. That fall our fighter group received orders from the Eighth Air Force to stage a maximum effort. Our seventy-five Mustangs were assigned an area of fifty miles by fifty miles inside Germany and ordered to strafe anything that moved. The objective was to demoralize the German population.
Noboby asked our opinion about whether we were actually demoralizing the survivors or maybe enraging them to stage their own maximum effort in behalf of the Nazi war effort. We weren't asked how we felt zapping people. It was a miserable, dirty mission, but we all took off on time and did it. If it occurred to anyone to refuse to participate (nobody refused, I recall) that person would have probably been court-martialed.
I remember sitting next to B[..] at a briefing and whispered to him: 'If we're gonna do things like this, we sure as hell better make sure we're on the winning side." That's still my view'"
(quote from: Yeager, Chuck & Janos, Leo: "Yeager - An Autobiography" (1985), pp. 62-63)
Yes, That Chuck Yeager... Or, who would know better than General Patton himself?
At a press conference in Regensburg, Germany, on May 8, 1945, immediately after Germany's surrender, Patton was asked whether he planned to treat captured SS troops differently from other German POW's. His answer was:
"No. SS means no more in Germany than being a Democrat in America -- that is not to be quoted. I mean by that that initially the SS people were special sons of bitches, but as the war progressed they ran out of sons of bitches and then they put anybody in there. Some of the top SS men will be treated as criminals, but there is no reason for trying someone who was drafted into this outfit . .
."
-"Berlin gave me the blues. We have destroyed what could have been a good race, and we are about to replace them with Mongolian savages. And all Europe will be communist. It's said that for the first week after they took it (Berlin), all women who ran were shot and those who did not were raped. I could have taken it (instead of the Soviets) had I been allowed."
"Actually, the Germans are the only decent people left in Europe. it's a choice between them and the Russians. I prefer the Germans." And on September 2: "What we are doing is to destroy the only semi-modern state in Europe, so that Russia can swallow the whole."
