Re:RealOne
Have you tried using Real Alternative? You can download it from Kazaa Lite's website.
-
Re:Decent media players?
I find Media Player Classic (available from http://www.kazaalite.tk in the codec packs) to be an excellent player, unique in its simplicity and usefulness.
-
A nice idea but ..

Re:Ewwww...
Sad as it is, most of the good stuff is on kazaa.
*cough* Kazaa Lite *cough* -
Re:RealBad
You can always use Real Alternative

What if I post the DMCA'd links here?
If I post the links for Kazaa Lite downloads that Google had to remove here on Slashdot, will Slashdot get a takedown notice? If so, will Slashdot comply? Moderators, please mod this up so that it will show up in the Google/Google News search index!

Re:What's funny... Read the complaint
So is
/. going to be DMCAed now because everyone is posting links to Kazaa Lite? -
Re:Really?
Really? So you get a link to a Kazaa Lite download when you google from where you live? 'Cause I sure don't.
I live in Las Vegas, and while kazaalite.tk is no longer listed, there are several other download sites that are listed (mainly for the K++ variant).
kazaalite.tk, BTW, is still alive and well.

Re:DMCA ...
But that still isn't http://kazaalite.tk

Re:What's funny... Read the complaintOnly some of these URLs are actually useful for finding the Kazaa Lite software. The useful ones are:

Why Even Bother ... Honestly?I notice that the law firm's address and phone numbers are marked out as "[private]" on the DMCA complaint.
Odd, when they make it public information on their website (whose URL isn't blocked out in the PDF file) and they don't have any other branches:

Heres an idea
College students should just use Kazaa and set up their computers like a FREE jukebox!
Yay, piracy!
F#*k the RIAA! $150,000 a song?! Apple will sell you the same song for 99 cents!
People please download Kazaa Lite K++! Its anonymous, free, and has no spyware or popups! Amazing! -
Re:Digging a HoleUS Copyright act which was ammended in 1996 with the "Fair Use" act
No such thing as the Fair Use Act. The Copyright statutes have defined Fair Use under 17 U.S.C. 107 since 1978.
which allows me to make multiple copies to other media for personal and family use, and I believe also allows me to share my music with friends and acquaintances
Perhaps you're thinking of the Audio Home Recording Act, which prevents prosecution for making an analog copy or certain digital copies of music.
Final word, what's so different between Napster and Radio? I turn on a radio, I can hear the latest (and older) tunes. I can call in and make a request, and almost hear a tune on demand.
Well, Napster has been dead for years. I'll assume you mean Kazaa Lite. The difference in the RIAA's eyes is that radio is not on demand. Yeah, you can request a song, but that requires you to get through to fairly busy DJs, where the phone lines are always busy. In addition, the radio stations typically have playlists. If you request a song that is on the playlist, they may play it. If you request one that is not on the play list, they will not play it. Even the so called "alternative" stations would not play obscure music. With Kazaa, you have quick access to the song of your choice without those limitations.

Re:Who's the best P2P
KaZaA Lite is the best to get MP3s, porn and popular software quickly.
eMule (eDonkey network) is the best to get movies, games and software reliably, as well as full albums, ebooks and porn.
What Gnutella is good for, I don't know.
Direct Connect ++ is best to get stuff if you have a very fast connection.
BitTorrent is best to get fresh movie, anime and other releases and some legit stuff like game demos.
FreeNet is not really usefull as of today.
IRC is good to get fresh movie and software releases quickly.
Usenet is good to get fresh stuff quickly if your ISP has a good newsserver or you are willing to subscribe to a paid one, but it's bad for hunting down specific stuff. -
In other news
In other news,
the Matrix Reloaded VOB files will be available on the FastTrack (Kazaa) network 4 weeks before Matrix Revolutions debuts. Pick up your copy of Kazaa K++ here. -
Re:eDonkey vs. Kazaa
If any, definitely Kazaa.
Naturally when you say "Kazaa" you mean Kazaa Lite. (All the file sharing, with none of the spyware or adware popups.) -
Re:No you were running spyware!
If you take a peek at Kazaa Lite (under Supertrick) they have a host file with lots of spyware hosts. The host seems a bit slow at the moment, but just retry a few times.
-
Kazaa LiteWonder if any of these features will make it into Kazaa Lite or if they're designed to shut out Kazaa clones.
Or if anyone will care.
-
Try it
-
This is being done already
For all the fun files anyway. -
Re:Yeah, right.
Kazaa Lite is a spyware-free Kazaa, but alas it also is a bandwidth hog. WinMX is a pretty great tool, now that it has caught up to Kazaa-style tools in terms of features, and it uses OpenNap servers as well as (I think) a semi-proprietary protocol of its own. It's also completely spyware-free.

Install Kazaa Lite not Kazaa
Really i wish the people behind Kazaa Lite would have used some name that didn't have the word kazaa in it, what the heck am i supposed to tell people to install? Kazza LITE, not Kazaa, very important.
-
Use something else?
-
Re:Kazaa lite!
Not just Kazaa but others are availible or linked from CleanClients.tk
-
mirrors
There are some mirrors at http://www.kazaalite.tk/ when kazzalite.com crumples under the slashdot effect.
I'm at 50, so I'm not karma whoreing. -
That's why we have Kazaa Lite!
-
Kazaa Lite,Better yet, have your friends use Kazaa Lite. Same great taste without the fat
-
KaZaA Lite
and this is one of the many reasons I use KaZaA Lite
Knowing my luck this will get -1 Offtopic.... -
Re:You must be blind!
you must be blind, too. there is a possibility to emulate windows on linux. right? it's called WINE. its reported to run morpheus and kazaa on linux machines. (spyware issues left alone).
so chances are, it will run most of that windows-clients. so dont complain about that. if WINE emulates windows good enough but without that bsod's, it can be a good alternative to a native linux-client.
and be sure to check out KaZaa LiTE, the spyware and crap-free hacked version of kazaa. reported to run under wine, 1mb sized download. fasttrack client 100% kazaa-compatible. unidentifiable as non-spyware-ridden kazaa-lite from the net. try it. -
limewire and bearshare ad and spyware free
there are hacked versions out, that are stripped from any unwanted and stupid crap. don't remember the sites or the names, but you can go to the KaZaa LiTE (kazaa filesharing completely ad and spyware free
;) works great) and click on links..., there are some other spyware-cleaner projects linked, with grokster, limewire, bearshare, audiogalaxy and imesh all cleaned from crap. but i only "tested" (hehe running 24h since 1 week) kazaa lite for now. no need for gnutella if i have crap-free fasttrack...
kazaa lite should also run under WINE-linux, too, but if you prefer gnutella for some reason, limewire in precompiled adware free java-version should be there... -
KaZaa lite
no more whining about crapware in kazaa or the death of (usable) morpheus.
here is the next: KaZaa LITE
it is a 100% ad-/crap-/spy-/nonsenseware stripped (i.e. hacked) version of kazaa media desktop 1.5.
it has NO evil or annoying components in it, last recent build v10 is merely 1MB in size, bitrate limits, popups, blinking and non-blinking banners completely removed
and
it is 100% compatible to the fasttrack-network and is undistinguishable from original kazaa (from the view of the fasttrack network). that way it can't be shut off or rejected, and it works 100% the same as regular kazaa and the old morpheus.
not quite legal I think but absolutely perfect in usability.
if you guys got morpheus 1.3 to work under wine, then kazaa lite should work, too. nearly the same program like all the fasttrack clones...
and if the download mirrors of kazaalite are overloaded again, just try regular filesharing tools to download the kazaalite-installer.
don't complain it's hacked but not open source ;) it's great. -
Re:Why I still use KaZaA
Only moron users can't tell that KaZaA is loaded with spyware. If you're moderately experienced, it's piss-easy to choose the "custom install" option when installing KaZaA. All the spyware programs are clearly listed in that install,
Not all of them are...IIRC, Cydoor isn't listed. What's more, Kazaa won't work without Cydoor. (Fortunately, there is a dummy cd_clnt.dll out there that will allow Kazaa to run...it's even bundled with Kazaa Lite.)
-
Re:I'll tell you why people still use it...
Find him something else as good, without the annoyances, and I guarantee he will use it.
Okay, show him KaZaA Lite, which is the KaZaA binary with the ads & cydoor (spyware) & bonzi buddy hacked out of it.
Remember kids, that's www.kazaalite.tk! -
If you really want to use Kazaa
Try this site:Kazaa Lite
They Claim: - No Adware - No Spyware - No banners - No bitratelimit for mp3 files - No irritating websites loaded into KaZaA - No crappy BDE Viewer - No f*cking Bonzi Buddy - Set up multiple users with the included PseudoTrack tool -
Add features to gnutella
Yeah, like a "start" screen with an integrated gecko component so we could browse slashdot inside our p2p app like I'm doing right now in KaZaALite. Tho if they put html in gnutella I'm sure we wouldn't have to map desktop.kazaa.com to
/.'s IP addy in our hosts file to change the start page. -
Get Kazaa Lite
Um....Get Kazaa Lite...no more crapware, same old Kazaa.
-
Kazaa without spyware
Someone striped Kazaa off the bundled software (spyare) and claims to make avaliable a clean version of the program. I have naver tested it, but you can find it on www.kazaalite.tk/.
-
Surprised not to see this linked:
This is what I've been using for about a month or two:
http://www.kazaalite.tk/
KaZaA lite works just like the original,
but Without Banner Ads and the other fluff like the Bonzai Monkey. -
Kazaa Lite
Uninstall Kazaa. Do it now. Then go to http://www.kazaalite.tk and get Kazaa lite. It is 100% the same - minus all of the spyware. It also removes the restriction on 128K bitrate among other things. If you currently use Kazaa, you should go to this page, follow the instructions, and get rid of the spyware crap on your system!
-
Kazaa Lite
What does this mean for users of Kazaa Lite?
-
I already suspected it
Well let's see where to start.
First of all this isn't an April Fool's joke because it's already been posted a few weeks back.
Secondly, right now I run kazaalite because I suspected this distributed workload has already been started on kazaa. If I leave my computer doing absolutely nothing except download a few rare files it slows down enormously. Now I have an athlon 1,2 ghz w/ 128 mb of ram so this isn't supposed to slow down out of the blue. And on top of it navigation is horrible if kazaa is running. A dsl connection loads pages slightly faster than a 56k.
In short if you like using kazaa (as I do) but can no longer stand it's "features" then go get kazaalite.
