And here's the Symbian s60 port, released in November 2008. And a video showing accelerometer support.

Re:Classics never die
Quake 1, 2 and 3 have already been ported to Symbian, with full OpenGL support. You just need the data files from the original game and you're good to go. The Quake 1 port even includes the original music by Nine Inch Nails in the background- I'm yet to see even a PC updated version that does that. The original game music was in the form of CD tracks, as was Quake 2.

Re:Communication
But it isn't a requirement to learn about every underlying feature in order to learn the issue at hand.
For example, here is discussion Mutex vs. Semaphore, where the concepts are compared to toilets. Very understandable to the average person and completely ignores everything going on "under the hood". They might not be able to create their own libraries for this, (or even code at all), but they can understand what they do and how they are used. You can then discuss real-world examples with them even if they have no knowledge of the underlying details.
In this case, you don't need to describe what MOS really is, you could describe it using a bad analogy like a light switch. We don't make light switches out of copper since it would electrocute us when we turned on the light. We also don't make our light switches 3-feet high. MOS is the material and design that we have come up with so we can turn the really small switches on and off without needing to get a finger inside to flip an actual switch. Want to describe p-channel - do it in terms of a strainer. We want holes of a certain size in a strainer so water goes through easily but the pasta does not. We also want different numbers and sizes of holes when we are sifting flour. If we use a flour sifter on our spaghetti, it will take forever for the water to drain and everything will get cold while we wait. In this case, the p-channel is the number of holes in our strainer and it is dealing with electrons instead of water or flour.
Sure, they won't be able to discuss how to build a p-channel MOS, and the design trade-offs, but that isn't the purpose. The point is, by relating concepts to what they are familiar with, they can understand the general idea.

Re:Virus/adware-spreading ads
Well, I wish I hadn't. This is the message I got:
http://koti.mbnet.fi/jnyman/dilbert.html has been categorized as Pornography. It has been blocked per your organization's Internet Usage Policy for group Public.
So, you know, thanks for that. -
Virus/adware-spreading ads
Ads can be a growing security risk in the future. I'd like to ban all ads at work, but I can't do that since IE6 is the only allowed browser here and no extra software is allowed to be installed. Once I surfed to Dilbert website for comics that I thought would be safe, but Errorsafe malware tried to install itself to my machine (by ActiveX component in an ad). See http://koti.mbnet.fi/jnyman/dilbert.html screen capture here (the dialogue text is in Finnish, but the bottom line asks "Do you want to install Errorsafe program to your computer to check your computer for free (recommended)?". I complained about this to Dilbert website's webmaster and to Scott Adams and they replied that they're looking at the problem, but after that nothing. Haven't visited Dilbert website since at work. Hope this is not a growing trend.

Thieves?
Care to tell how I'm supposed to be a thief, while I'm listening for a CD chosen from my collection of a couple of hundred or so audio CDs I've bought since 1991 and player application uses the database to display track/artist information?
(Sure, I could just look at the track number and compare it to the listing contained at the back of the CD. But why not use the technology, when it's available.) -

Re:Webserver's Everywhere
You mean something like this?
-
It depends on your phone
If you just take the free phones your provider offers, then games won't be that great. But if you get a decent phone and have a decent provider there are plenty of free games. There are ports of Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, and Frozen Bubble. There are also free or cheap emulators for the Genesis, the NES, and the SNES.

Re:Don't get me wrong....Actually, now that I go and look at it again, you're totally wrong about the analog stick. If you compare these images, you'll see that the Revolution stick is more rounded around the edges and lacks the hole in the middle that the N64 analog had. From the texture of the material, it looks like it might even be rubberized.

Re:Is it really that popular?
Surely you aren't trying to equate cartoons with art!
You're damn right cartoons are art. For instance, Samurai Jack. Also, the Simpsons are absolutely a work of high comic art. They can compete with Oscar Wilde and Shakespeare any day. -

Re:Who cares about the technical details?
This is what the first run of Opera 8 looks like: http://koti.mbnet.fi/wheany/kuvei/opera8.png
It might be a bit busy brcause it has the advertisment bar on the top, but other than that, the interface is pretty similar to FF. -
Re:US and Supersonic
Yes, that was the method described. The "trains" would have additional guide wings at the side, so the whole system would look like this.

Re:The CD o' Doom
Add Microsoft Antispyware, Spybot search and destroy, HijackThis and this script on the disk. And maybe some tools against specific malware, like CWShredder.
Sorry, the comments on the script are in Finnish, but the script deletes all users' personal temp-directories, temporary internet files, temp dirs under the system directory and Opera's temporary files. One flaw in the script is that it assumes the system is installecd on c:\. And I could add Firefox's and Mozilla's temp dirs on it as well.
Learn to use HijackThis and the system explorers and hijack restore in MS antispyware. About:blank is not a good choice for start page, because apparently that can be redirected to a page containing more exploits.
And remember to activate only one product's real time protection. -
Re:security
How about this: http://koti.mbnet.fi/wheany/phish/
Hover over the colored letters. Works in Opera and Firefox. You could add some kind of "Do not warn about this domain ever again" to the UI. -

FINNISH DEFENCE FORCES MAKING FUN!
Sorry about this off-topic message, but this is something unbelievable!
Finnish defence forces making fun of war prisoner episode!
The Finnish Defence Forces are to investigate the case of digital photographs apparently taken at a Finnish military garrison, in which half-naked soldiers crawl on the floor on a leash. The pictures, which have been posted on the Internet, bear a passing resemblance to the torture photos taken at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. It is believed that the pictures are of some "graduation" or initiation ceremony, and are a conscript prank. The Defence Forces want to investigate if the conscripts have behaved improperly, or broken military law. Defence Forces communications director Ossi Kervinen considers the matter an unfortunate one, saying that the soldiers' behaviour gives a negative impression of the Finnish Defence Forces.

Re:Give them the technology.
I used a an Atari 800XL to code. It was my first computer, followed by a Victor Computer. Then an 8086 Olivetti PC, with a whopping 10 MB drive (or so), that ran DOS and GeoWorks...and finally after much begging, I got my first 486...man, I was so glad to have a VGA display.

Re:Safari test
I had my volume cranked because I was watching a movie that had been poorly encoded and had low volume. My pop-up blocker plays a quote from Harvey Keitel that has him saying "Fuck you, fuckball". The repeating pop-up windows had my computer screaming "fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck..." at top volume for about thirty seconds. I'm sure that's not something the neighbours appreciate at 4am...but definitely funny.

Re:Options 4 and 5.
In fact, I'd like to see a list of options that will allow me to set exactly what JS can and can't do.
As an Opera user, I like to answer these.
* Ability to open up a new window when I request it (onclick)
Block unwanted pop-ups
* Ability to do useful DOM stuff
Well, this I really can't answer, since I don't know your useful. But most of the sites I see work just fine when I have enabled Javascript
Out:-
* Scrolling text in status bar
Allow changing of status field
* Anti-Right Click
Allow script to receive right clicks This option unfortunately doesn't stop the script from receiving middle clicks. Very annoying when trying to auto scroll around the page.
* onload/onexit
Can't ve stopped in Opera. (To my knowledge at least)
* resize window
Allow resizing of windows
* tell me that i can't have a URL box or status bar on a popup
This depends entirely on how you have customized your toolbars. My status bar and url box are in non-window specific toolbars, so in a way none of my windows have status bars and url boxes, but they get updated depending on which window I have last clicked.
* stupid 'effects'
Again, depends on your definition of stupid. -
