Re: Miles?
I assumed that the fact that it has feet means that the spacecraft is of a "Voltron"-type design.
I guess that's better than a Guntron design...

Hydrogen?
Hydrogen? Really? You know, we've been there, done that. We had hydrogen powered cars driving around in the late '70's and '80's - gov research programs after that little oil embargo dust up. We even had cryogenic liquid fuel tanks that could keep most of the fuel from evaporating away for weeks at a time, and when a little did evaporate away it went through a nickel catalyst and was converted to harmless water.
Don't even think about compressed gas storage or porous adsorption techniques. The volumetric efficiency of the cryogenic liquid is bad enough. Compressed gases and adsorption storage in a typical vehicle might rival the range of a bicycle day trip. Maybe.
A minor change in metallurgy was required to keep turbo charger vanes from failing due to hydrogen embrittlement. Any internal combustion engine can be converted (hint - change your ignition timing to about ZERO degrees before tdc, and reduce or eliminate the vacuum/throttle advance. Hydrogen burns so much faster than traditional hydrocarbons that any timing advance will result in a broken crank). They burn cleaner, last longer, and don't need oil, right? And fuel cells are even better, right?!
Wrong!
Without truly massive investments in nuclear or other power plants to make hydrogen, and an equal investment in all new distribution systems for hydrogen, hydrogen is otherwise made by reforming natural gas and coal flue gas. Yeah, let's do that!
Except lots of studies and research has shown that converting a hyrdrocarbon to hydrogen, then pumping and shipping it around, is far less efficient and far more polluting than just charging batteries. Fuel cells don't change this reality. Also, how come we don't see fuel cell power plants? Hmm, that's curious!
Hydrogen is an Exon Mobile unicorn. Oil companies _love_ the prospect of a "hydrogen" economy.
I know, hydrogen is the fuel of choice for the Tesla haters. It's sad, really. I want you to have your unicorn, I really do, so here you go:

The Perry Bible Fellowship
It has to be my favorite. It is too bad it doesn't get updated much anymore.

PBF is the best; great reference!

Re:PhD, xkcd and Penny Arcade
Are you kidding? xkcd is total shit. Let me sum it up for you: whimsical stick figures white knighting on the internet!!!!! But with pop culture references!!!!! LOLOLOLOL. Penny Arcade is better, but the blogs are frequently better than the actual strips. PhD comics is alright, but it's not exactly what I'd call great.
Let me introduce you to a real webcomic: The Parking Lot is Full.
Honorable mention to Gone with the Blastwave, Sexy Losers, and Perry Bible Fellowship, even though PBF is a pretty much a ripoff of PLIF. Still, it ripped off the best, so it gets an honorable mention.
If you're into insipid, warmed-over Monty Python references and "internet culture", then SMBC is probably what you're looking for. It's alright. It's shitloads better than xkcd, at least. And there's no desperate, low self-esteem white-knighting, which is a huge bonus. There's also Bob the Angry Flower, if you crave nerd humor that's got more substance than someone making fucking graphs.
I could mention a few others, but I was never that big a fan of Ghastly's Ghastly Comic (maybe you need to be a weeaboo to really love tentacle rape jokes... and Sexy Losers did it all first). There's also Subnormality, if you don't mind preachy, TL;DR strips about the totally wacky and off-the-wall adventures of a sphinx that -- get this -- likes to EAT PEOPLE!!!! LOL. What craziness!
But, really, xkcd is total shit.

Re:Rule #1: No exploding
No exploding
Disagree. I'm happy with "No exploding unless you've got enough insurance to clean up whatever the exploded bits land on", and would have no problem compromising on "No exploding over populated areas."
But as for the appropriate level of safety the FAA should target with its regulations, all I want as a prospective passenger is the same level of safety you get when you do your first tandem skydive. Everyone signs a waiver that says they realize they might not come back alive, but the company has a pretty strong incentive to make sure everybody comes back safely, and the experienced jumper, to whom the n00bs are strapped, has a very strong incentive to bring both of you back safely.
If the spacecraft's pilot thinks it's safe enough to fly, then I'll fly with him.
So long as we don't damage anything or anyone in their path, it's nobody's business but ours whether we come back high-fiving each other saying "that was awesome!", or as the first snowflake of the season.

Re:Convict Shuffling!
We could give the prisons to Wizards of the Coast!
Yeah, I want a versioned prison system. By the time "4th edition d20 Prison" comes out, they'll have changed the system system so much that it's not even recognizable as a prison, and older inmates will just start complaining about all of the weeaboo fightan magic.

Ok I actually laughed at this one.
Pretty good, but I only just logged in this morning (Australia) so I saw them in all in a row.
Plumber injection attack indeed, which reminds me - on topic

Re:The rollback of the Bush era infringements
It scares me how scared people are that they think this is rational behavior. The "reasonable suspicion" that the border agent had at the scene was:
Hanson appeared nervous, the discovery of the condoms and the male-enhancement pills, and Hanson's statement that he had been working with children
Then they searched his laptop 3 times and found a single image of what appeared to be an adolescent girl naked on a beach, so they arrested him for possessing and transporting child pornography, and since it's federal, he's going to PMITA prison.
