touchscreen?
ipod vs e70
:p
anyway, why are we going with keyboard on touchscreen? it's a pain if you compare it to the "normal button" ones...
it's slower, makes you type more, and makes the screen dirty.
nokia e70 had maybe one of the most complete keyboard...
if we want bigger screens, why don't we go towards something like nokia n810? with slide-keyboard, i mean.... Personally, i don't like the design of this phone... it reminds me a blackberry, and the screen is not even that big... -
I've said it before and I'll say it again...
I have been using the e61 for some time and it is fantastic. Wifi in a phone more than a year before the iPhone. The only thing it lacks is a tab key and it misses it badly. I just went phough phone buying hell for my father and got him a Centro (mostly becasue he is a technophobe who has had a palm, handspring, or treo for over ten years. ) I have been using the iPhone and a V3xx for the summer and all of them basically suck cock compaired to the e-series. Touch screen is cool but add no functionality for me and somewhat diminished typing experience. Oh had why the fuck doesn't the keyboard go to landscape in half the iPhone apps? Anyway none of you chumps will ever see this phone anyway becasue the US mobile phone companies are a ass licking oligarchy based on reduced function in returned for increased prices.

Re:Looks good
Well, the iPhone is a great --- kidding!
:)
The E70 looks pretty good. I had its predecessor (the 6822) for a while and quite liked even that.
There's also a good review here. ;)
I do happen to think the iPhone is great, but if you want a good keyboard, it's probably not what you want, and I found that the fold out keyboard seemed easier for me to use than most on mobiles. -

Re:Responsibility?
Maybe because I mentioned them in this quote
"Yes, he gave his child a time out in the corner for 15 minutes, and all the child did was destroy his CD collection with a hammer. That child suffered serious emotional and psychological distress and had his creative urges silenced and he should be allowed to smash anything he wants with a hammer and not be punished for that. That child could be the next Andy Warhol. Take the child away and put the father in jail for 4 years on charges of child abuse."
Time-outs are like spanking without the violence or physical hurt. That is what I was talking about, and you mentioned was child beatings.
I think that parents should use Love and Logic and give time-outs and empathy. You over reacted like the Liberal in the story and claimed it was the same as child beatings. Do I look and sound like Maddox to you? -

Re:It's like watching ugly people kiss
Apple is innovating?
They take technology that exists in lots of other places, and put it in a prettier package. OSX is nice, but it's BSD with pretty graphics.
The iPhone is nice, but it's a cleaned up version of the Nokia E70 (see: http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=iphone)
Apple is known NOT to listen to their customers. They listen to Steve Jobs (and for their benefit, I might add).
Honestly, Microsoft has been around the block on these types of things before, and while Google and Apple are big threats, I don't consider Microsoft a 'stupid' company by any means -- I feel they will have a period of crap (oh wait, Vista...), reorganize and come back stronger.
And in the end it's better for us all if they do. Although if MS ever put out an OS that is better than Linux on security, and better than OSX on ease of use and prettiness -- Slashdotters would still decry it. So I guess on this site, it's lose lose for them. But their bank accounts are still rather full. -
Re:A crack-high moment.
Because unlike Apple users, Windows users don't feel the need to trumpet the greatness of the latest release of their operating system that the Almighty Overlord releases and that all should bow before it?
Seriously, this is your answer. -

The fact that 40,000 people that die on the American highways every year tells me some of that damned Homeland Security money should go to highway safety improvements. You want to spot a terrorist? Look in a tobacco company boardroom; half a million Americans die every year from cancer.
Terrorism is a tool of the US government to take away Americans' liberties. You, sir, are part of the problem. -

Those awful internets!
Note: In the course of researching this article, I stumbled across what may be the most disturbing document I have ever encountered on the Internet, and that's saying something. Let's just say that if you do want to kill yourself (and I certainly hope that you don't), the information is in fact out there. In great and excruciating detail. I had no previous knowledge of what the ingestion of lye could do to a human body. This was one of the most life-hating documents I've ever had the misfortune to read; be aware of what you're in for if you attempt to replicate the study results on your own. Now, go hug a child.
Yes, but don't worry, a person wanting to commit suicide can also find plenty of good advice on the web that will give him or her some perspective and allow him/her to make a wise desicion.

best font color in the universe
I've always thought that what Maddox said was best. When he was explaining why he used a large sans-serif font of middle gray on a black background.
"When I go to a web site, I WANT TO READ THE CONTENT. Trust me, that micro-font everyone uses isn't nearly as original as they think. I've chosen a black background for most of my text because it's easier on the eyes than staring at a white screen. Think about it: your monitor is not a piece of paper, no matter how hard you try to make it one. Staring at a white background while you read is like staring at a light bulb (don't believe me? Try turning off the lights next time you use a word processor). Would you stare at a light bulb for hours at a time? Not if you want to keep your vision."
http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=faq
It just makes sense. A mid-level of contrast isn't difficult to make out and it's not an annoying extreme contrast (yellow on red). The black background puts out the least amount of light in your light based additive color system. Use large sans-serif fonts for easy readibility. Personally I've never used this myself for anything, but it always made sense as the best set up for eye health. Even reading back this for spell checking it seems twice as hard to look at as it did on his site. -
Re:multiple sequels usually don't work too well
See the link in the other reply.
But even if you dislike the book, you have to agree that the movie took it and completely changed the entire premise. Taking someone's characters, plot, title, and everything else, then completely twisting around his message, just isn't right. It's like the train wreck that was I, Robot (with Will Smith), which was like pissing on Asimov's grave. Or, let's let Maddox explain. -

Re:Just do your own research.
I don't think cnet is going to tell you anyting other than who is paying the highest price for advertising this month.
From what he said I think I know what he needs. A Nokia e90. My wife has the e61 and it does 90% of the computing tasks I need. Wi-Fi, 3G, phone, office documents, acrobat, web browsing with Opera, Blackberry support, exchange, & Skype. The e90 is big enough to do any office task on and small enough to take with you. It has 2 cameras (one 3m with flash) and is a great MP3 player. If you don't believe me read Maddox's review of the iPhone vs. e70 titled "The iPhone is a piece of shit, and so is your face." . Granted the e90 is a little different than the e70 but who is going to notice that the e90's balls are made out of tungsten instead of steel with kicking them? Plus it runs on Sybian, a great OS with lots of support and not a bitch of M$ or a BSD rip off with flashing colored baubles.
You know it is a great product because the US cell phone companies will only sell a crippled piece of shit version (e62) in the US. -
Re:Headline is completely wrong
Why would T-Mobile want the IPhone when they have the Shadow and the Wing?
Twice the functionality at one fifth the price. Although the article is about the Nokia E70, the same thing applies to the T-Mobile phones http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=iphone -
Re:Hotmail? There are alternatives to Hotmail. There are none to the iPhone (so far). Only if you consider the iphone as a good underachiever or are very tied to media spin. The review above linked is, well, brutal, but is quite on the spot. I have a Nokia E61a, and on most functionality and even leisure it compares very well against the iphone (not on trendiness, that I give you), and, mind you, the E61a is older than the iphone.
There are many alternatives to the iPhone, depending on the viewpoint, some of them are better and are around for long -
Re:There's more here than meets the eye
Neither of those elements - multi-touch nor a full-function web browser on a mobile device - are new. Opera has been running on mobile devices for years now. Putting multi-touch into a phone may be (though there's a cost - those of us who dial without looking at the screen lose that tactile feedback.) But you seem to be taking Apple's PR too literally.
While I think it is predictably over the top, I think Maddox did a good job of deflating some of the iPhone puffery. -

Why they can't use Apple

I think Theo of OpenBSD said that he allows the users of OpenBSD to use it to make weapons to destroy where he was living at the time... somewhere in Australia if I recall correctly. However his anti-Iraq war comments made DARPA cut his funding. -

No, this is why the music industry is crumbling
http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=musicindustry
Start with about the fifth paragraph and go down.
Then combine that with the staggering amount of terrible, poorly written, poorly performed "music" out there promoted by the big labels, and there's no longer any mystery surrounding the demise of the industry. If they'd sign some decent artists and not try to rip their customers off, things might be a lot different. -
