Re:Absolutely correct; however...
Similarly, I'd like to note, even if Vader died a Sith, it wouldn't be too late for him. It is possible to be redeemed even after death. For this, I cite the game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
You might like this fan fiction story (long, but worth the read), along with its prequel. The author has some other unique works as well.

Kind of a nerdy reference, but here's some advice from the Star Wars fans eager to use DV for special effects: Fan Films FAQ

Actually, you'll get a better deal at Crazy Watto's Deals On Wheels (And Repulsors).
As long as you're not a Jedi, that is. ;-)

Re:Impressive?
The time on both Earth and the spaceship would appear normal from each point of view; that's relativity.
But compared to each other in terms of a round trip by the spacecraft eventually returning to Earth's reference frame (the only way to compare them, really), the spaceship will be arbitrarily slower. So hiking off in a spaceship is indeed the wrong thing to do if you want to break time records. Remember, in the twin paradox, it is the twin who goes into space that comes back young; that can't happen unless he's the one experiencing slow time.
(Actually, it suffices to jush put Earth in the spaceship.)
You can get the opposite effect if the spaceship exceeds the speed of light; the equations say that then time will indeed "speed up" relative to the rest of the universe, ironically eating the "advantage" of going FTL in the first place. There is no evidence this is anything more than an amusing mathematical diversion, though. (Note, this does not refer to "warp drives", where the ship is techncally stationary and space moves, this is refering to an actual tachyonic space ship. It may be written in a sci-fi context but this article from a PhD in cosmology might help.) -

Re:Very nice, but....Vader grabbed Leia in an "Imperial Class Star Destroyer"
... although that designation has been debated. See also this quote from Warships of the Empire :
Imperator-class star destroyer.
"The common mile-long Imperial star destroyer. Imperator, the first ship in its class, was built at the KDY shipyards at Gyndine for use in the Corellian sector fleet early in the reign of Emperor Palpatine. [Is Gyndine in or near the Corellian sector?] By the time of Palpatine's fall these ships were ubiquitous galaxy-wide as the stock destroyer vessel of Imperial Navy's territorial fleets, numbering no less than several tens of thousands of ships.
These vessels were also colloquially known as "Impstars" or "Imperial star destroyers", particularly among the forces of the Rebel Alliance and New Republic. (Of course all star destroyer designs of the Imperial Navy were "Imperial", just as the rebel Admiral Ackbar commanded Calamarian cruisers which nonetheless were not "Calamarian-class" star cruisers!)"
The older, smaller versions were called "Victory Class Star Destroyers" and were only a half kilometer long.
True :-)
The "Super Class Star Destroyer" you see plunging into the second death star in ROTJ is Vader's Capital ship and is close to 5 kilometers in length.
I'm not sure there is such a thing -- either a "Super Star Destroyer" (from computer games I think) or Executor-class Star Destroyers / Command Ships, from Vader's Executor in ROTJ.
All this is further discussed here:

Re:Episode 4 remake* We were introduced to Luke's future foster parents (in Lucas' trademark ham-handed way) in Ep II. So when Anakin/Darth visited, why would he have them barbequed?
Those loose ends have already been tied up; it was all just a big misunderstanding. Haven't you seen Troops?

Seeds of Darkenss
Don't forget Star Wars Fan Films. If you're looking for to fix your jonez for a battle, there are a number of good films available. Seeds of Darkness while not having the best actors, does have a well-done battle sequence. To the filmmakers' credit, it is very well crafted and paced, borrowing liberally from Lucas' own style of showing simultaneous battles on multiple fronts.

yeah, but you should really think of the enviromnental consequences of that battle, granted it looks cool, but what about Endor? and its habitants?

Re:Huh?
I don't think is saying that this thing is the size of the Death Star. I think he saying when something that is the size of the Death Star comes our way and poses a serious threat that we'll be able to do something about it because it's apparent we'll be able to see it, as we've detected something much smaller.
According to this the Death Star from Star Wars was between 120 and 200km in diameter, and the Death Star from RotJ may have been as large as 1000km diameter. While it might be nice to be forewarned of our impending doom, there won't be anything we can do about it. -
Re:Yes, but it's not really the original
there were rumors floating about in regards to changes Lucas was supposedly making for the DVD edition. I guess we'll have to wait and see if it actually happens.

TFN Episode III "Review from the future"!The Force.Net's Review of Episode III is interesting. TFN Editor Joshua Griffin wrote a review from the point of view of a month from now. Apparently Lucasfilm let a select (him included..wonder if they knew he wrote for TFN) few screen Episode III and give their feedback.
"I'm just returning from something Lucasfilm has never done before and quite frankly something I never thought they would do. Although there is still a month before the release of the film worldwide, they showed a select group of people the movie. [snip] But even in it's nearly finished form you can see the soul of Star Wars in this one."
"You won't want to miss today's new editorial where TFN Editor Joshua Griffin posts a "review from the future" - an article that takes a hypothetical look at a finished film that is actually no where near complete. There are many points of discussion written within the editorial itself which will be expounded on in regular articles, the point is not to show a predetermined bias to loving the unseen final film but to simply believe that Star Wars can be great again.

Endorian Holocaust
The Endorian Holocaust is the devastation of the destruction of the second Death Star. At the end of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, the rebels destroyed the second Death Star in orbit around the Forest-Moon of Endor. The Endorian Holocaust may have lead to the extinction of Ewoks on the Forest-Moon of Endor.

Best source for information
One of the best sources for information on this is from TheForce.Net's boards (Link is to the spoilers board).
Of course, I happen to moderate at those boards, so I might be a little biased.

Quicktime montage of the scream
TheForce.net has an old article about this along with a quicktime montage of the scream in different movies. Now it's stuck in my head and it'll stick out like a sore thumb whenever I hear it...
-
old news...
This stuff has been readily available for a while -- also condensed at theforce.net.
Being a former spoiler hound for episodes 1 & 2, I found that they sounded much better on paper than they were on screen. This one doesn't really even sound appealing on paper, beyond The Duel, which either means it's going to rock, finally (unlikely) or that it will be so mindblowingly bad that The Phantom Menace will look like Citizen Kane in comparison. -
Re:Is Space Mining Feasible?
The first problem I see with that is that any object approaching the speed of light (or even a velocity low enough for interplanetary travel within the system) in a gaseous medium would be vaporized rather quickly. Also, even given the above, the Star Wars galaxy appears to be immune to time distortion. And that's not counting other problems like vaporizing planets or the Force.
It's called fiction because it's not real and probably never will be. Sometimes excessively tortured rationalization is worse than "it's just a movie". -
Re:Season's schedule.
Batman vs Predator is already a movie, here:
http://www.theforce.net/theater/shortfilms/batman_ deadend/ -
What about this movie
If you think an Alien vs. Predator film is a good idea, watch the movie at
http://www.theforce.net/theater/shortfilms/batman_ deadend/index.shtml
(not off-topic if you watch the whole movie)
I bought into the Alien vs. Predator hype right from the pre-release Jaguar blurb... so this is great news (two months ago it would have been brilliant news but then I saw the above movie. Now I can only say the big screen version has been truely pipped at the post and unless it has a great story line(unlikely) then it already been surpassed by a three way tie-in actioner)

Trailer
There's not much to this trailer, but it should be an interesting movie! If you can't wait until this movie, check out this.

On a related note, the teaser (ie. no content from the movie but a little snippet from the last one) of Resident Evil: Apocalypse is out! -

Links to Preview & random bitching
Here are links to the quicktime trailer that's been out for awhile:
Large - 320 x 240 Small - 240 x 180
I've just gotta chime in that 2 to 3 minute toons are definately not enough, when I first heard of this I thought it was going to be a real cartoon not just filler. Too bad they didn't take the opportunity to use the savings from making cartoons instead of live action in order to actually flesh out the Star Wars universe. For the price of Ep1&2 they could probably turn every book ever written about SW into a damn cartoon. (Except "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" by Alan Dean Foster of course) Just wonderful, it'll probably be shoved in-between other cartoons during Toonami, meaning I won't see it until someone puts it up on one of the bittorrent or emule sites. Cartoon Yoda looks great tho!

Already parodied...
"Duality", perhaps one of the finest fan films ever IMHO, has already been parodied by the utterly hilarious "Twoness". A definite must-see for fans of fan films.
Here's a short, totally unrelated "fanimation" if you just can't get enough fan action. -
How about Bounty Trail or Pink Five??
Personally, I think Bounty Trail is one of the best star wars fan films.
As far as comedy goes Pink Five is the funniest fanfilm. It ranks right up there with Troops.
I dont know why duality was posted, its almost three years old. -
A funny Star Wars Trailer
Check out Episode I: When Senators Attack. Man, it's the funniest thing I've seen in ages! From TFN:
The second trailer for Episode 1 The Phantom Menace has never looked so crazy. Tongue way in cheek throughout When Senators Attack IV lampoons the entire Phantom Menace trailer...
WARNING: If you like Jar-jar or normalcy, then you may wish to avoid the trailer.

Re:Art of the Saber
I actually posted a link to the Duality website back in this post, but I think that the ones with real stories like Broken Allegiance, The Dark Redemption, The Formula, and most recently Reciprocity (no relation to Duality that I'm aware of) destroy any FX-only project like Duality or AotS2.

Art of the Saber
Sorry, guys, but this piece of work utterly destroys Duality. It's not strictly saber-fighting in the SW canon, but quite frankly I think it's miles better than Duality. (And for those of us who care, it uses a hell of a lot less CGI.)
Frankly, I think these guys should have been taken on by LucasFilm, as fight choreographers. -
Re:Nobody has ever done this before
People have always done these kinds of things for the films that they enjoy. Go to The Force.Net. All sorts of fan movies.
There was even an article here on slashdot about some KIDS that were remakng Indiana Jones (I can;t find it though. I'm sure someone will point it out for us)
Or, when you said no one has done this before, you were talking about the matrix? Well My favortie just happens to be matrix based.
