not Apple so Not A Problem
Bendy phones, walled gardens, holding it wrong.... it's only a problem when it's from Cupertino. So this will be a two day news story, like when Samsung had to recall an entire phone model because the batteries were blowing up and starting on fire.

Re:My colleague just bought a Tesla
Tesla's range is either 220 or 325 miles, That's long enough for most routine drives, and enough to go from Seattle to Victoria and back, and there are superchargers along all the major highways for long-range driving (and in both Seattle and Victoria). And "having to charge up" just means pluggig in while you're doing whatever you went to Victoria to do - it takes less time to plug/unplug an EV to fill a gas tank, you just need to do something else for little while during charging, since you can safely leave your car - like eat lunch, go to the bathroom, etc. The only problem is that Superchargers keep getting faster, so now for me a charge during a long drive takes less time than breakfast/lunch/dinner. https://www.theverge.com/2019/... . The new Superchargers will get you 75 miles of range in 5 minutes, and a full charge in a half hour. Which isn't enough time for a relaxed "purge and fill" before getting back on the road.
Amusingly, in the early days gas cars had "range anxiety" because there was no such thing as a gas station people bought gasoline from random businesses that also sold gas, or carried cans of gas with them, while electricity could plug in anywhere that had power, and that was a reason that electric cars were more popular back then. https://www.greencarreports.co... . It took 50 years for gas stations to become ubiquitous. High speed EV chargers are already much more available than early gas stations, and are building out fast.

More live action than just Mandalorians
There are at least two live action Star Wars shows in the hopper...
I agree, that is a lot of Star Wars (and Marvel) content for a not very large price.
-
Re:Star Wars?
Let's see...
- All the Star Wars Films
- The Mandalorians New TV Series
- All the old Star Wars Animated Shows
- All the Marvel Movies
- New Marvel content featuring Loki, Scarlett Witch & Vision, Falcon & The Winter Soldier, and Hawkeye.
- Phineas & Ferb, including a new movie.
For $6.99 a month (or $69.99 a year)? Yeah, I'd do that...

Re:Liberty is what matters
In the UK, you get investigated and harassed by the police for using the wrong gender pronoun for transgender people. Seriously, that's so much better?
Claim that Islam is evil in most of the EU and you get charged and then sent to jail for 6+ months. It's not just Germany, but wonderful Sweden as well. And of course the UK.
Say anything against the Government in much of the world and you end up in prison (or just - gone). Yes, most of the rest of the world has a lot less freedom of speech. Provably so. In fact, your post to me would qualify as hate speech in much of Europe and could land you in jail because you denigrate me. Seriously.

Re:Film at 11
Machines doesn't think as you probably understand which is why this is a problem - the machine can be fooled but doesn't detect that what fools it isn't logical. A human generally detect those cases and adapt to the situation. The problem is the reliance of pseduo-AI pattern matching without the actual AI, the part that would make the machine "think".
Another problem is the sensitivity of current systems in that small patterns that just would make a human somewhat confused instead is detected as a highly accurate match for something completely different, this have been demonstrated with many types of NN image classifiers with funny examples like a turtle being detected as a weapon: https://www.theverge.com/2017/... -

We can automate racism. Why not ethics?
See Turns Out Algorithms Are Racist. And don't forget that time Twitter taught Microsoft’s AI chatbot to be a racist asshole in less than a day. If we can do the opposite and make sure our algorithms aren't racist unintentionally and that our machine learning assistants don't become racist, you'll have won half the battle of making them ethical. This is going to be a hard problem to solve. It's not enough for programmers to be ethical they need to have outside observers helping them, especially people not like them.

self-driving busses on the other hand
They're turning them loose in crowded areas near me!
https://wtop.com/dc-transit/20...The areas described here are both several city-block "town square" type of deals,
bustling with pedestrians on small streets and sidewalks, with restaurants, shopping,
movies, and (at the onewith the subway stop) also apartments. Street and garage
parking, random double-parking and curb pickup. Traffic is normally about 10-15 MPH
and is signed for 25 MPH; these two areas are about 2 miles from each other and are
connected directly by a busy commuter highway that's supposed to be 35 MPH but the
crazy drivers weave and swerve at 45 MPH when they can. It's amazing that there are not more accidents, with people constantly running all over
the streets and crazy/inattentive drivers; it will be interesting to see how the robots do.I believe that other cities are already ahead on this... https://www.theverge.com/2019/...

a pilot's take on Tesla's autopilot
I'm a pilot. I fly a plane with an autopilot. I also drive a Tesla with their "autopilot".
The very expensive aircraft autopilot flies great. I can be hands-off the controls for extended periods of time, read a book, browse Facebook (hurrah for GoGo
:), etc. Do I? Hell no! An aircraft autopilot has no clue what other aircraft are doing. TCAS might see another nearby aircraft, maybe it won't. I keep my hands on or near the controls, I look out the window, and I scan the instruments - all the time. Which is pretty much what I do in the Tesla. The big difference is that the Tesla actually does a pretty decent job of reacting to other cars. Odd lane markings and construction zones do freak it out from time to time. I have had the Tesla alert me to an unsafe traffic or road condition and tell me to take over - in a flurry of beeps and on-screen alerts. Freaks me out every time. I wish the autopilot in the airplane would do that - instead it just shuts off, throws a warning light if I'm lucky, and the plane wanders off somewhere in the sky until I pull head of my my ass. I probably hand-fly the airplane more than I hand-drive the Tesla - on cross country trips. Taxiing around on the ground is a bit like driving a Tesla to the grocery store - an annoying fact of life to tolerate only until I get where I belong - out on the road, or up in the air, where the massively automated systems not only make my life easier, they make it safer as well. You people bitching about how dangerous the Tesla autopilot is are just spoiled, bitchy little meat bags of self-loading cargo. You have no concept of automation, risk, and capability, you see the autopilot and cry that it's not perfect. You all need to fly from LA to NYC in a Ford Trimotor, or drive between them in a model T. Keep a spare set of points and a condenser in the glovebox. The magneto on the Trimotor's radial engines probably uses the same points as the Model T. Make sure you can change the points and gap them in the middle of nowhere, because that's where they'll fail. You'll be flying for about 20 hours, and you'll make about 8 stops for fuel and maintenance. The Model T will take a wee bit longer, at least 60 hours, with modern roads, unless you have to stop and fix the engine. A model 3 can make that drive in 50 hours, and you won't have to change the points once.

Sure, here you go
right here
For those who don't want to be bothered watching the video (or can't stand Cult of Dusty, which I can't really blame you for), PDP had a large number of alt-right personalities he was following and after the New Zealand shooter he emptied his followers list.
PDP may or may not actually believe any of the things the alt-right does. But he absolutely uses the movement and it's fans to his advantage. The controversial things he's done have almost exclusively appealed to the alt-right.
Like a lot of YouTubers he's figured out that the alt-right is a powerful engine for increasing views and ad revenue. But feeding off that isn't a one way street. He's normalizing and legitimizing the worst aspects of that community. And not just him. Other YouTubers like Sargon of Arkad, JonTron and Ben Shapiro are doing the same. Go look up some videos from Contrapoints, Three Arrows and hbomberguy on the subject. They're far better than anything I could type.
There's an entire engine on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook dedicated to exploiting angry, bitter, jobless young men for ad revenue and Pateron donations. I'm bloody sick of it. It's dangerous as fuck. Eventually a real demagogue will come along and organize them into brown shirts. -

Re:$10/month
While it may be ok to overstate how fast and how far things will go when developing a new technology, this is something they'll be relying on.
It doesn't sound like there's much new tech to develop, just some dispatch software. Musk delivered the South Australia battery in 63 days:

It sounds like he could be more than a year late and still be done before the convention center opens, but it's not just you and I that know that projects delivered late reflect poorly on the business.

Re:There is no 30% tax
there are tons of stuff were Apple apps have favorable integration other apps only can dream off.
Keep dreaming. Apple is nothing if not consistent in fiercely protecting their customer's privacy, and most of the access you speak of is used for violating customer privacy.
As far as the chips go: The chips should be walled off with only API access. That's just proper OS design.
You want to know the reason why Apple doesn't allow anybody else to use NFC? I have a better question for you: Why should they trust you or anybody else? Facebook violated pretty much every privacy rule Apple had with their "Facebook Research" app, and Google did the same with Google Screenwise.
Allowing somebody else would open the door for the alternative payment service to harvest a customer's payment information -- something Apple won't allow on its devices.
Apple has very strong, very consistent rules to prevent developers in its ecosystem from abusing Apple's customers. Telling developers they will not be allowed to fuck with Apple's customers is a strong selling point in the brand.

Microsoft is EXTREMELY poorly-managed.

Re:How Many More to Go
One run by the Internet Research Agency out of St. Petersberg during office hours, acting in unison with the other 99 accounts being run from the same room.
Ah, we're back at the "Russian trolls" excuse. I recall a few months ago Twitter banned a bunch of Bulgarian accounts for the sole reason that they wrote in Cyrillic alphabet, were from the capital city of Bulgaria and were active roughly during the daytime over there, thereby fulfilling all your criteria.
The irony was most of those blocked were the exact opposite of a troll farm - they were genuine accounts and of people who were mostly pro-western and quite liberal at that.
It is impossible to ascertain any of the things you propose with any certainty just by the online activity of an account, especially in the absence of clear policies.

PS1 = 102 million sales
PS2 = 155 million sales
PS3 = 83 million
PS3 = 94 million(*) Not sure where the Verge is getting 400 million from. Wikipedia lists 385 million as of 2009.

I've been seening a lot of these stories lately
of how China oppresses it's people in creepy ways. I'm actually a bit surprised this didn't make
/..
One thing I haven't seen is so much as a peep about this from main stream media or a single politician. Calling out China's gov't is up there with showing a picture of Mohammad or pissing off Vladimir Putin in the list of "Shit you don't do".
What annoys me is seeing folks call for "Regime Change" in Venezuela and Iran while they ignore China (and Saudi Arabia while we're at it). Hell, Xi has basically declared himself emperor for life and Trump didn't just say it was OK, he said we should do that too. Not a peep I tells ya.
I know it's all about money (oil and cheap labor), but damn it pisses me off. Not the hypocrisy (pay a man that much and he doesn't care if you call him a hypocrite), but how they always get away with it. -

Re: Hang on....
If you believe AppleÃ(TM)s Ãoespyingà (whatever that means) decreases transaction security, please, tell us how.
It decreases security because there are more hands in the pot. Not only does the secrets comprising the underlying card still need to be guarded so does the account / device itself. More to go wrong, more opportunities for data collection and systems compromise.
The future of payment systems isn't layering one disaster (credit cards) upon another (hardware tied vendor specific proprietary payment schemes)
... the future is in systems like SWIFT's RT-RPS.And please show proof that any Apple Pay user has ever been compromised as a result of using it.

Of course not
That would be the Meizu Zero or maybe the Vivo Apex 2019. Apple's courage doesn't yet extend so far as to go wireless charging only (no need for a USB port), remove all all the buttons, *and* go eSIM-only so they can dump the SIM card tray! I expect Apple with be copying (and patenting) these "innovations" and making them their own soon enough though, so hardly surprising the SE's sold out so fast.

Nikon in trouble
Nikon does not fab their own sensors. They source them from Sony and some other companies.
This is true and ultimately it may be their doom. Sony has gotten into the high end camera market to the point where they lead the market in new camera sales passing both Nikon and Canon. Having to rely on one of your biggest competitors for such a critical component is a BAD place to be. Especially since the market for dedicated camera fell off a cliff courtesy of smartphones.

Microsoft has been insufficiently managed, also.
ERROR in my parent comment above: I'm tired. I need to take a nap.
There are many ways in which Microsoft is insufficiently managed, also.
I posted this before:
Some of the many, many stories:
Windows 10 is possibly the worst spyware ever made. "Buried in the service agreement is permission to poke through everything on your PC." (Aug. 4, 2015)
Microsoft's Intolerable Windows 10 Aggression (May 27, 2016)

There is no way to justify Microsoft managers operating the company like that. If Microsoft had paid $100,000,000 for negative advertising, it wouldn't have gotten such extremely bad results, in my opinion. -
Re:Far Cry 5 had similar controversy
Far Cry 5 had the absolute OPPOSITE controversy, and it's easy to see by the fact the "complaining" is coming from the people praising BFV. Namely, TheVerge, Vox, Polygon and other SJW pandering "gaming" blogs suddenly writing negative pieces about Far Cry 5 :
https://www.theverge.com/2018/...
Literally
:Ever since its reveal nearly a year ago, Far Cry 5 has invited controversy. Whereas most shooters have players aim their weapons at zombies, demons, or Nazis, Far Cry 5 takes place in Montana, and its enemies are American citizens who bear a strong resemblance to the stereotypical image of a modern, young white supremacist. The first piece of art for the game was a re-creation of The Last Supper, but with Southern hipsters wielding guns and knives and a tablecloth that was an alternate reality version of the American flag.
In the months since, the developers at Ubisoft Montreal have been hesitant to draw any true parallels between the gameâ(TM)s world and the real world. And after playing a few dozen hours of the game, the reason for their reticence is clear: Far Cry 5 doesnâ(TM)t have anything to say about race in America. It doesnâ(TM)t have much to say at all. Itâ(TM)s a big, dumb action game with an artificial sheen implying depth.
How disingenuous to you have to be to pretend both games received the same kind of "controversy".

:) Found that pretty interesting in itself, very much so.
I did catch one mistake in my post(s), it was 8.5% of under 65 that sent fake news. And this if funny too... on another site they talk about parties. 4% of dems and 18% of republicans shared fake news... saying due to Trump stuff.
https://www.theverge.com/2019/...
And then on Fox News, they have a partial article that totally omits the 4% dems vs. 18% repubs. I find it hilarious, as more of a moderate myself, that Fox would leave out that stat but post most of the rest. The biased news on both sides is just sad... you have to laugh some so you don't cry. Anyway, stop reading the news, it'll ruin your day!
