Re:I Hate My California Self
Really? You haven't been paying much attention...
Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) after the San Bernadino shootings -- "Sensible gun laws work! We've proven it in California." link She is apparently unaware of what state San Bernadino is in.
Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) with the debt spiraling upwards at close to $1.25T per year and insurance premiums are jumping as much as 50% per year - "ObamaCare is lowering costs and the deficit." link
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) -- “Every month that we do not have an economic recovery package 500 million Americans lose their jobs.” – in a nation with 307 million people.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) -- “We have federal regulations and state laws that prohibit hunting ducks with more than three rounds, and yet it’s legal to hunt humans with 15-round, 30-round, even 150-round magazines.". Apparently, she doesn't know that it's illegal to hunt humans with any number of rounds.
She (Feinstein) also believes that allowing people to make calls from an airplane will result in uncontrollable brawling amongst the passengers. link
Or, her (Feinstein's) fine opinion of our Veterans: "All vets are mentally ill in some way and government should prevent them from owning firearms." link
Not to mention Feinstein's flip-flopping on this very issue [encryption]. In October, she said, "Millions of personal records and hundreds of billions of dollars fall victim to cyber-attacks every year, and we’ve done little to stem the tide." In other words, calling for enhanced cyber-security, yet only a month ago, "I can say this. [FBI] Director [James Comey] and, I think John Brennan, would agree, that the Achilles Heel in the internet is encryption. Because there are now... it's a black web! And there's no way of piercing it. And this is even in commercial products!"link
“Those who survived the San Francisco earthquake said, ‘Thank God, I’m still alive.’ But, of course, those who died, their lives will never be the same again.” – Sen. Barbara Boxer
“It [marijuana] will still be legal under federal law.” Senator Dianne Feinstein claiming that marijuana is legal
And. of course, the all-time grandaddy of a Nancy Pelosi quote, "But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it."
That was from less than 2 minutes of searching. You should really pay more attention. -

They could do all that, but really, would they bother? Just to save the cost of a frequency license? That sounds rather far-fetched.
And yet, this reports the abuse of ham radio by the Indianapolis, IN, USA police department. You can read about FCC actions, for example, this one, which is typical of the kinds of illegal use commercial operations make of ham radio.

Question: Why were jews kicked from nations cited?
Answer = Talmud + jew beliefs on non-jews/goyim http://www.topix.com/forum/religion/judaism/T3R0CSB6LGV5MVHE6/p3 - Disprove that from jews' talmud that speak more for those you attack in their favor. Explain why jews are historically/globally kicked nation to nation worldwide in history? You can't. Jews help make "hate crime" (spelled sideways = obliterations of the right to free speech) possible! Clearcut case of trying to hide truths and weakly projecting a tool they themselves use (hence mass media + communications control on their parts every time in every nation). Cutting off the tool jews use themselves: Free speech. So by the same token, what about what jews themselves believe of non-jews out of their own talmud shown in the link above then? Do yourself a giant favor - Don't try to 'outsmart' me Jude: History shows many nations have outright kicked you out before because of jew beliefs largely noted in the link above as well as systematic thievery impoverishing nations you temporarily resided in worldwide. History itself easly shows us that jews do themselves in, everywhere you go, every single time. You don't learn by your mistakes. You are obviously too weak in character racially/genetically to overcome your thieving cowardly natures. Repeating the same mistakes over and over expecting different results proves your culture is insane by definition. Easily. History and your beliefs in the link above speak for themselves and your cult: You're a human virus that many nations through history have outright ejected - Explain that. Yes, I suppose now you're just going to try to tell us the nations I cited that kicked jews out are all insane, and only jews aren't? Good luck. I guess you couldn't buy up enough printing presses to stop history's truths, eh? LOL! All that gold isn't helping vs. truth, now is it? NO sir. Especially after reading that link above. It's going to be hard to explain away jews can't rip off scam other jews so they go worldwide infesting others nations in order to continue to do so to non-jews they literally view as slaves/cattle and made Israel an "international city" so they could do the same there to non-jews, yet again, also. It's truly hilarious seeing you reduced to failed attempts at attacking myself (and yet you won't answer a simple question, and, you obviously can't explain away your own reprehensible beliefs!)

Re:That's nice
"Woman shoots intruders" makes a good story, "woman shot by intruders" is just a regular day in the USA.
Nevertheless, here's a couple of articles:
http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/131161/
http://www.topix.com/forum/city/noble-la/TR15JA061K07R7VC6
http://omaha.com/article/20120912/NEWS/120919892Continuing is pointless without some statistics. The report you link to has some, and prints in bold "The data set contains only 11 stories out of 4,699 where a criminal took a gun away from a defender; the reverse was reported more than 20 times more often.", but in the text notes that this is because the dataset didn't collect data where the defender was injured.
http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-kellermann.htm shows a different side.
Frankly, I don't care to debate this -- I'm happy with the situation in my country, presumably you like your country's approach, and arguing over the Web is rarely useful.

Re:Instead of 1000s of nuclear warheads? Navy and
The only counter to nuclear weapons is the threat of other nuclear weapons. Carriers are insignificant compared to the capability of even a few ballistic missiles. Carriers are handy because they can be used at lower levels of conflict, so they have their uses. However, the top of the defence food chain are nuclear weapons (with several different types of delivery options). There is no substitute for nuclear weapons for global powers. Unilaterally pursuing nuclear disarmament is utter insanity - there are countries in the World who would nuke a disarmed US without blinking. For example, Iran and North Korea say they would on nearly a daily basis - which doesn't make their threats hollow as some people believe - but show that the enemies of the US have the will but are in fact deterred for now by the large US nuclear arsenal.
Most people in the US don't know that the Iranians have installed around sixteen Shahab 3 missiles in a mountain redoubt in Venezuela: http://www.topix.com/forum/ve/caracas/TFOGPR88FQV6RHJGC This missile can't quite reach the US but with extended ranges of successors (from shared missile tehcnology between Iran and North Korea) and the Iranian nuclear weapons program the citizenry of the US ought to be very very concerned - and certainly not allowing Obama to progressively disarm the ultimate deterrent that the US has (that is, its nuclear triad). I'm glad I don't live in the US - its enemies are working on its destruction while its leaders are busy squabbling over how to bribe voters by spending money it doesn't have (note that the massive spending is nearly all on social programmes; despite what you are told, defence is a pittance in comparison).

Re:This is thanks to Bush's failed policies.
"'This is by far the largest — and certainly among the most sophisticated — identity theft/credit card fraud cases that law enforcement has come across,' the Queens County District Attorney's office said in a statement announcing the arrests.""
The people who can make the statement quoted, with a straight face, have never met the beaners referred to by AC. Face it, people - 20 MILLION illegal alien invaders, and at least half of them have forged papers for working in this country. Identity theft, on a massive scale!
I should have sold my identity to them years ago, though. Imagine - 50 people working in this country, all of them using my SSN. Crap - the Social Security administration would be sending me a rebate at the end of each year! I could retire!
Oh, wait. Some tools and fools will be along directly to explain to me how politically incorrect I am. Call me a racist. Blah, blah, blah. Screw all of you. I'm so racist that I listened to the conviction of a "Real American White guy" for killing an immigrant's grand daughter the other day. I was so outraged that the white guy didn't get the death penalty. I stopped to see the girl's father, to express my condolences again, and to tell him how outrageous it is that they white guy isn't going to get the needle. That's how racist I am.

Re:Smoking seriously harms you and others around y
Well, the insides computers that are in the homes of heavy smokers (who smoke inside) can be covered by a layer of whatever stuff there is in the smoke. At least dust can be cleaned easily and does not stink. The particles from smoke stick and stink. Here is a picture of a computer from a smoker. I am quite sure that if the dust is disturbed, the resulting smell would stay in the room quite long.
Second hand smoke does not have much of an effect when the exposure is short (at a bar or wherever, unlike, say, working 8 hours every day with someone who constantly smokes inside the office, or the bartender who works at a bar that is foggy from smoke), however, the particles inside the computer result from years of smoking, so the dose is fairly high, not just a couple of cigarettes.

The government in the USA is a representative democracy. If the government is doing something, 'we the people' of the USA are doing it.
Not at all, I consistently vote against laws and the politicians who support them. If they support them they do not represent me. As a matter of fact, I am very disappointed I voted for Obama as he does not represent me. I was one of those swing voters he counted on but now I know he's not trustworthy. Back them McCain scared me, though not as much as Hillary did, but now Obama scares me.
Oh, tell Pelosi the US is a representative democracy, she's the one trying to use deem and scam.

Re:Well, the cable industry should know.
One thing I have said many times,
The blacks that are direct from Africa are much different on a genetic level from the blacks descended from slaves.
This might sound a bit low, but slaves were selectively bred, much like dogs were. The ones that ended up strong and able to work the most were bred, and the ones that showed independence, and enough thought to potentially seek freedom were not.
I'm not saying that it's impossible to rise above genetics, but it is definitely disfavorable.
Call me a racist if you want, using dog analogies, but genetics DO play a roll in personality. For example, all (house) dogs are all the same species. Yet various breeds have distinct personalities, think about how chiwawas usually act, now think about a golden lab. They are of the same species, yet have very distinctive "racial" personalities.
Lets look at the attributes that were bred in, and those that were bred out.
breeding for Strength and stamina. Yes, it's a stereotype, but NFL football teams are disproportionately black.
breeding against traits that make them seek freedom and independence. Take a look at http://www.topix.com/forum/afam/TS6CBT754MKNC4E90 , Blacks are disproportionately high on welfare. -

Re:Because Gay People Make You Gay
they want to see them unquestioningly as sick pedophiles that are destroying society, inhuman evil monsters that can not be related to.
Er no. These parents don't see homosexuals as monsters or anything like that. That's an absurd characterization, and its made so that you can, in turn, demonize the opposition.
Most don't. Some do.
References:
- Rick Warren compares gays to pedophiles
- "There is a strong undercurrent of pedophilia in the homosexual subculture. Homosexual activists want to promote the flouting of traditional sexual prohibitions at the earliest possible age....they want to encourage a promiscuous society - and the best place to start is with a young and credulous captive audience in the public schools" -- Robert Knight, Family Research Council
- More from the FRC
- Report: Pedophilia more common among 'gays'
- Fred Phelps
Of course, this is mostly a bunch of demagoguery, but there are some Americans that buy it -- for example, take this sampling of Arizonans. I don't really think it's fair to claim that this is "demonizing the opposition" when prominent figures have actually said these things. Publicly. On the record.

Re:wha?
I wonder how you can honestly claim something like that on a forum like slashdot. Let's not pretend that all opinions get equal "respect" on slashdot.
Can we at least agree, for example, that slashdot's moderator's position on copyright enforcement is
... not all that subtle or balanced. And there are many other standpoints that are basically not allowed like it. I'm not saying slashdot (currently or in the past) breeds antisocial tendencies. But a forum like slashdot could easily do so.
Hell, just check out islamic forums. Or truther forums. One contains loads of kill gays and stone women, the other
... well you know. And yes, that's a tendency.Forums are no cure for antisocial behavior. In fact they can easily amplify it by isolating groups of similar mindset.
Read the comments here for example : http://www.topix.com/forum/iq/baghdad/TASKRSD7AUN7VBTJE
Of course that raises the question whether it's immoral for muslims to kill gays. If you allow "freedom of religion" which really means freedom to choose for yourself what is immoral and what is not, obviously you cannot condemn the killing of gays or the stoning of women, since they choose killing gays and stoning of women to be very moral acts instead of immoral. If not, you're basically expecting muslims to condemn the paedophile prophet for being a slave-trading kidnapping thieving massacrer. And if you truly believe that (which is an obvious truth) how could you possibly be a muslim (and NOT a sociopath).
Yet this ideology, including the killing gays, stoning and beating women parts, is spreading, especially online, where those people cannot easily be shamed for what they're saying. In the "real world" it's in retreat.
However the question is what will happen if the internet starts taking preference over the "real world".

There is only one moderate view: it's none of your damn business if gay couples decide to get married, anymore than it is your business that inter-racial couples get married, which also used to be illegal.
Every time someone professes to be an Obama supporter, ask them to name/describe three of his policies. Out of several dozen people I've asked, every one of them tells me he's the new hope, that he's a stable guy, that he's not old... and ONE has been able to actually name three policies. Obama has perfected saying absolutely nothing and all indicators imply he's going to win because of it.
Then you're an idiot that hasn't talked to very many people. Quick, name all of Woodrow Wilson's cabinet members. If you can't do it right now, off the top of your head, it means they didn't exist.
McCain pisses off the liberals by being a conservative, the conservatives by being a free thinker and made the mistake of picking a VP who keeps having opinions about everything, whether they fit the platform or not... and is on course to lose because of it.
More garbage. McCain pisses people off because he's an incompetent flip flopping hot head who can't make a single attack on Obama that doesn't blow back into his hypocritical face.

Or not. Your figures are bunk.

http://uk.reuters.com/article/oilRpt/idUKN0244772420071003
None of those accidents were nuclear, but they all resulted in deaths. When you're dealing with megawatts of power, it's important to remember that a megawatt of generated power can just as easily become a megawatt of destructive force.
There are actually quite a few more accidents at nuclear plants than the ones you listed. What's fascinating, though, is that there are so few deaths or injuries. As with other power generating technology, Nuclear has become better understood and safer over time. Fewer and fewer people are dying from regular power generation, and nobody is dying anymore from nuclear generation. That's despite the fact that 19.4% of US Power is Nuclear. As a resident of Illinois with 11 power generating reactors online, I'm proud to say that we have provided nuclear power to the nation for over 30 years and in a very safe manner. A benefit you are no doubt receiving.
I honestly hope they build more of those suckers in my back yard. Because I sure as hell would rather be breathing the clean air offered by nuclear options rather than the toxic, radioactive crap produced by the coal plants used to provide over 50% of the US's power needs.

Re:The gentleman doth protest too muchFirst of all, the government is not some monolithic entity with supreme authority. If an official asks you to do something, you may or may not be duty bound by law or morals to comply. Do you think any FISA judges sat in on the meetings between telco executives and NSA staff? Would they have agreed with what was happening?
Fact is, many people within the government and in the telcos disagreed strongly with what was happening. Hence the appearance of whistleblowers. This fellow lost his job and is now facing litigation to bring the wiretapping to light: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Klein Even Ashcroft thought it stank http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/15/AR2007051500864.html
QWest refused to comply, and were duly punished. http://www.topix.com/denver/2007/10/nsa-punished-denvers-qwest-after-refusing-warantless-wiretaps-before-911
Acts of courage like that suggest that the decision to comply with the NSA's request was not as black and white as you make it sound.
It would be too easy to give examples of atrocities committed by governments in the face of a passive public unwilling to question the authority of a goon-in-uniform. I won't bother. To me, this smacks of typical left-wing "All corporations are evil, let's get 'em" mantra.
At least you've made your biases clear. But again you've got it all wrong: Traditional conservatives are as upset (if not more) by warantless wiretapping than "typical left-wing" types. The people upset by this are those few who still take civil liberties seriously; and even if you're not concerned by the ramifications on civ-lib, this cover-up reeks of corruption. It should piss you off that telcos can buy their way out of jail so easily.

Think oil.. there is only a finite amount. It costs $143 a barrel. It's used in everything from gas, to plastic (petroleum products). Elements, gone... you name it. WAIT ONE MOMENT...
http://www.popsci.com/scitech/article/2007-11/turning-water-fuel
http://www.topix.com/forum/tech/TTIH6KF6MDPN1SS51
A cancer researcher using radio waves to target cancer cells stumbled upon a novel method to split water atoms into their hydrogen and oxygen component gasses using radio waves.
A research assistant noted test a tube with saline solution bubbling gas while the tube was in the path of a radio wave emitter operating at 14 megahertz. The researcher exposed the gas to an open flame and the gas stream lit. The photo in the article shows a yellow white flame coming from the mouth of the tube much like that of a propane torch. What is different about this method from run-of-the mill eletrolysis of water is the volume of gas being produced. It appears to be measurable in several liters/second rather than several liters/hour obtainable from laboratory eletrolysis equipment. Since it is not safe to store hydrogen and oxygen together because of the potential for violent explosion this method would be ideal for producing hydrogen fuel for immediate use or for storage of hydrogen after the two gasses are separated.
The article stated that the reaction was observed by others, but it did not say that the method has been duplicated. The article also did not say what the energy consumption was for the radio wave emitter. The observer surmised that the reaction may be asisted by the presence of NaCl in the solution. -

Bed found inside Polygamist temple
ELDORADO, Texas (AP) When authorities moved to search the large white temple on the polygamist compound in West Texas, about five dozen of the sect's men prayed and cried around the structure, state investigators said Thursday.
Schleicher County Sheriff David Doran also said he had been working with a confidential informant for four years who was feeding him information about life inside the polygamist sect.
It wasn't until after the search had begun that Doran learned about marriage beds in the temple and the forced marriages of underage girls to older men.
When authorities gained entrance to the three-story building, no one was inside. But they found beds allegedly used by husbands after they married underage girls on the top floor of the temple. He said authorities made the temple the last stop on the weeklong search because "if there was going to be any resistance at all it would be then."
So let's see - religion, polygamy, rape, child abuse

Ummmm... nope. These types of systems are currently being used by US military aircraft currently operating in Iraq and Afghanistan. They regularly save the lives of our servicemen. They are quite well proven. For example:

Yes, many of the links describe in-process contracts, but others of these systems are currently fielded on many aircraft. Two aircraft in particular are Air Force One and Marine One. It's about time for these technologies to filter down to the civilian world. -

"We suspended one-day ticket sales for a period of time because of the capacity in the park," said Disneyland spokesman Tom Brocato. "We don't want it to detract from our guests' experience."
Disneyland officials do not release attendance figures so the exact sell-out number is a mystery. Disneyland experts estimate that the number is between 60,000 and 80,000 guests depending upon the staffing levels and the number of operating attractions.
Those fortunate enough to gain entrance to the park on the three days reported long lines, often in excess of 90 minutes for most of the popular attractions. For the evening fireworks show Main Street was reported to be wall-to-wall with people.

Jan. 4--Hot off one of its peak years, the Disneyland Resort raised daily admission prices $3 on Tuesday, up to $59 for adults and $49 for children ages 3-9. That's the fourth price increase in two years and it ..
The best things are limited. They manage their load by increasing prices. You may be priced out of your ability to go to amusement parks in your own country. You are already being priced out of beachfront property and mountain condo's. It is going to get worse as the dollar continues to fall (Down over 30% since 2000). That means relatively, non-us citizens can buy premium us items easier the more the dollar drops.
There is only one "rolling stones", only one "celine dion" (and only one "hannah montana").
People travel from all over the world to see their shows. -
Re:No Contest
One small problem - as seen in Superman (II?), Superman can zoom really fast around the globe and reverse time, go back to before Batman aquired said Kryptonite, and then beat the shit out of him.
That, coupled with X-ray vision, heat (laser)vision, super strength, invulernability, flight, well, he's kinda misbalanced.
If you want to go back to the original, "Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound," fine, he's got super speed, invulernability, super jump, X-ray vision, and super strength. Still would put my money on him, as that "faster than a speeding bullet" means he can break the sound barrier, which probably would be enough to be able to take out batman.
Batman is a wuss - he's like Velma and Fred rolled into a single character, with Johnny Quest's foolhardy bravado, then given lots of money and stature within the city. He romps around the city in tights and rubber armor with a boy wonder... If you've ever read Mark Leigh and Mike Lepine's "How to be a Superhero" (NBM Books: 1992) (some excerpts here - probably among the funniest books I've ever read... but out of print) you'll have heard this before, but "People talk..."
About your dodging thing - what a wussy way out. Superman takes it like a man. He's probably faster than the Flash, as well as more powerful, he just doesn't flaunt his super-speed like that piss ant hero. Don't even get me going on Aquaman...
Enough knocking Wonder Woman - Wonder Woman has magic bracers that deflect bullets. Batman has... a utility belt. Wonder woman has an invisible plane to get around (at least in superfriends). Batman has... a nice car (but hey, it is jet powered...). Wonder Woman has a magic lasso that makes Batman passive and tell only the truth... Batman has... Robin!
