Nice to see the KKK alive and well
The KKK started as a group of men bullying delinquent-men who weren't taking care of their wife, kids, family.
E.g. Frustrated men who took the law into their own hands.

Re:Why wait on Corp America to provide this?
I agree. Every year US car menufacturers HAVE to find the killer-new-feature. Its the only way they can keep propping up the price. Then Hyundai comes in with "what we want" and I buy from them. I am convinced that Intel is behind this. They have laid this out and no one wants it.
As far as your app comment I completely agree.

Re:The grey line of theft
Agreed. Two things should happen, not just one.
1) The FTC should force Hollywood to improve their technology. They are rich and aren't being forced to innovate. Look at the non-DRM JKRawlings just put in her wares. She is smart, Spielberg, Kathryn Bigelow, dinosaur Lawmongers. Its what I call the Twinkie defense. If I lay twinkies around the road and then jail you when you take one, that is entrapment. Current DVD technology is entrapment.
2) Unfortunately, TPB days are numbered. They should add a "tip" jar and send the money somewhere. Starving kids, Producers, I don't care, but they have to give me a way to pay for this.

Re:News Flash
New Orleans will never enforce that. They let poor people build anywhere and it will always be that way. Let em die I say, its nature acting on stupidity.
IMHO, I can forsee farmers terrorizing upstream levees should this flood trend continue. This is America, its not just who has the most people on the line. The intelligent farmers have utilized the wonderful water near a river as they should. I am not a cynic, but if it was my lawful farm and the river-squatters have not listened to move-out flood reports, let em die and then pay reparations as we have historically done.

Re:Application in DRM?
JKRawlings new venture embeds the users info in the Digital-media. No DRM. Its not perfect, but thats a good way to "help" honest people stay honest.
But as I have always said, if TPB had a tip jar that went to charity, they would send a big message to Hollywood to update their old whipping based system. Idiots.

Re:Priceless.
you actually hit on something there. Isn't it time we can put an entire circuit on a chip? CPLD's are too complicated. I gave up building cheap electronics. Once the word "micro" enters the picture your best bet is to canabalize something en leu of actually pulling up Orcad...

cygwin with Vista is really all I need. Cygwin has come a long way. It creates a perfect Linux environment when I need it.
Google is heading down hill. They need more peer review, less authoritarianism (probably spelled wrong). I am waiting for the next big thing after Google.
My son has a chrome computer. Its very heavy, lots of limitations.

Re:Busy Work...
I have said this N times but I will say it again. TPB needs to have a donate-now button. Then when they get shut down, kids in Africa will starve.
Another scenario. Why doesn't someone make an imdb.com for directors? That way I could donate a $1 to the director when I steal a movie. I have looked and it isn't available.

Same argument for Caller-ID in the 1980's
California pulled the same stunt in the 80's, claiming that caller-ID would kill their telemarketer biz. 90% of all telemarketers originate in CA. They won.

Re:Easy Time, Future Jobs
This is really a test case like Rodney King.
Terry Childs superiors wouldn't have known what to do with the passwords had they had them.
Anyone other than admin's are scared to death to mess with big systems.
In the future, they will make admin's sign additional crap.
This would be a good place for unions to step in. I know we all have polarized feelings on unions, but he needed some kind of support.
Lets say they ask for passwords at dinner, he refuses, they say "denial of service" at 9AM next AM. What prevents mis-use?

I agree. In business you can only do one of three things.
Be First
Be cheaper
Be customized
If you do more than one, you will fail. Amazon missed the cool or nerd boat (iXXX, Android).
It would have to come in a cereal box for me to buy a kindle at this point.

Solution will migrate to Airline Industry
I don't have any problem with scalpers. Everything worth a damn has an intermediary, housing-sales (realitors), movie stars (agents), contractors (headhunters).
What I hope will happen is that paperless-and-transferrable tickets will someday move into the monopoly of Airline-Tickets.
Airline tickets should be on the Dow-Jones or some equivalent, so I can buy a last minute ticket.
So I welcome ticketmasters solution to the grandmother problem. May it find its way to Delta!
New Android widget for $0.99 helps you with the speedlimit on all USA roads and beyond. -
Re:there is a problem
I agree. There must first be a generation of self-aware cars that rely on nothing external.
Mercedes has some of that with 1. Self Steer, 2. Self brake.
Next phase will be
3. Self Lane change,
4. Analysis of car ahead vehicle type (for braking distance).
Hey govt, if you are listening, just implement variable-speed-limits based on time-of-day. Then watch that progress before mandating more expense and gadgets.

boys drag girls down until they finally say NO
I teach sunday school, (and have taught 9th grade also).
I tell girls that boys will drag them as far down in the gutter as they will allow.
Its up to the girl to show disapproval when they have reached their tolerance level.
CBS is definitely trying to make a buck from shock. Kudos for calling them on it.
For me, I download everything, so I am immune to CBS and most ads for that matter!
I know this self-censorship will probably dwindle, but for now its heavenly!

Re:Google shouldn't worry
article says:
"federal wiretap law, which prohibits unauthorized access of communications."
IMHO, all wifi should be open or at least not illegal. The US should not be in such a hurry to become Russian...
This law must have come from the carriers who loose data-dollars from open wifi.
or
the ISP's who want everyone to pay $40/month for Internet.
I may write my Congressman on this one.
Open Wifi is a nice thing to offer your neighbor. I recently installed wifi for an elderly couple who now use their neighbors unlocked wifi.
Its not like sharing a water pipe which is more infrastructure. The ISPs can just adjust their prices.
This is what I dislike about these laws. They promote "hate thy neighbor".
Help screw the government -
Re:An Opportunity
I wish I knew some way to make people unlock their wifi like I do.
I want to ditch my cellphone and just put a laptop on a pole in the car.
Everyones just IM'ing anyway and I could do that for free with Google-voice.
The 4G greedies {verizon, ATT} are propagating paranoia simply to sell airtime...
Got an android phone? -
$500 is the largest feature.
I expect to see "design wins" using it.
1. Exercise equipment with universal iPad display instead of LEDs..
2. Kiosks in the Mall for quick reference. (assuming the display is really tough...)
3. In autos on a pole (like the police have) {dont need keyboard}
I am an Androy-Fan, but I expect people will want to touch the iPad, so they will be built into stuff.

Re:Other strategies...
That sounds like a beautiful idea.
I had a similar idea for parking lots, but I never tried to fund it.
Pneumatic speed bumps. If you speed, they pump up, if not, no bump...
Another idea I had was to raise the speed limit by 10mph/kph after 8pm.
This gives semi-trucks a solid reason to drive off-hours, since they will do anything to make more time and hence money faster.
This would free up bandwidth for commuters.
And of course, my biggest idea to date is:
Free Speed Limit Database.

Back Seat Driver
Our goal is to build smart-cars that drive themselves. Piece by piece, we will achieve this.

Then auto-trains, so you can go coast-to-coast and wake up in Yellowstone!

Re:We told you.
Not sure where you are going on your thought. I agree, that the government is constantly told to "do something". Look at kids and cars for example. They [bunch of rich moms] actually got some car-safety legislation passed. Why you ask? Because it makes them feel important. Safety-theater...
Its the way of the world, rub a cops nose in trouble, and you force him to act. Why expect otherwise.
IMHO it is honorable to do-nothing, or have a waiting period for new legislation, a cooling off period to see if its still relevant. But that won't happen.
What to do? Simple, join an effort, any effort. My effort is wikispeedia.org I urge anyone to give 30seconds of your day and contribute. Its the purist thing on the Internet so you should reward us with 30seconds of your time. Ok, peace out.
