Re:I wonder if any of the 11 hugged him back....
Yep, its real achievement.
There is an episode of South Park by the same name that mocks WoW. This achievement was Blizzard's tongue-in-cheek response to that.

Re:I wonder if any of the 11 hugged him back....
Seriously. There's the achievement you definitely get for hugging a dead enemy (screenshot: http://www.blogcdn.com/www.wowinsider.com/media/2008/09/wowscrnshot_090108_234205.jpg its the highlighted one) Details: http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=247 Then there's the achievement for hugging every animal in Azeroth. No, I'm not kidding. "To all the Squirrels I've Loved before" http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=1206 and its sequel "To All The Squirrels Who Shared My Life" http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=2557

I had a google - it appears it is an achievement to hug a dead player before they release their corpse

Re:I call BS
Those are Feats of Strength (don't give you achievement points). He does have Realm Firsts for Leatherworking, First Aid, and Cooking, though (and first Druid and Tauren to hit 80 on the server).
He *doesn't* have the Insane in the Membrane feat, though, which is one of the more grind-intensive feats to get.

I'll let you in on a little secret - Dusky "Crab" Cakes are really made from spider legs! I know it's a bit disgusting, but the cakes have a nice, tangy flavor and make great snacks! Bring me Gooey Spider Legs and I'll whip you up a few of them.

Re:Imagination.
"probably wasn't influenced at all by Rogue/Nethack/whatever" is a bit farfetched. Especially given that there are items in the game that directly reference Nethack (cf. Worthless Piece of Violet Glass).

Re:Has an MMO ever had an ending before?
The main problem is most people don't bother to read the actual quest text in MMOs. Usually, you don't need to tease out hints on where to go and what to do.
sad, and others that are also chock-full of lore.

The quest in question..
this is the quest in question. While there's a similar one in the death knight starting zone, the NPC's there are armed, and are not strapped to a chair begging you to stop.
If you look at the response column the player base was squeamish enough to create forum threads in objection. As someone who browses the forum on occasion, the first couple weeks after the wrath of the lich king launch saw an explosion of similar threads.
I think it would be better to have you torture the npc in question multiple times, being sent on quests related to the false information extracted 3 or more times before they give up and have you investigate in other ways.
Given blizzard's record of making changes either schizophrenically or far too slowly, it could be a while before they make any changes, if at all.

Re:One glaring inadequacy.
It would depend on the mob and the rest of your build really. Assuming you DW two weapons with defense, AC, and stamina, I think the extra mitigation and avoidance would offset the extra swings. Take for instance two Infantry assault blades. About 1.1% less chance to be parried to begin with, 66 defense and 98 stamina. That defense helps achieve uncritable if you aren't quite there, and increases you avoidance roughly 1.5%. I think this thread makes a more persuasive argument.

Re:Glaring holes? No, there are no missing recipes
I've already done that.
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=39644#comments
So you link me the armory of a user who has only completed Northrend Gourmet for cooking 15 of the recipes. Nice supporting evidence, besides which I looked at the northrend gourmet for 30 recipes and I see that none of the 4 recipes that have been classified as missing by so many WoW players have been cooked by the player.
If you're going to try to make a point, at least show someone who has actually completed the Northrend Gourmet achievement for 45 recipes, or has the tracked achievement showing one of the four recipes cooked.

Re:My Review
Bloodbane, after the three Riders. Most definitely not soloable.
It's honestly the FIRST quest I've come across that uses phasing that really WASN'T soloable:

Re:Cheese runner
You get to torture a prisoner with electricity, throw molotov cocktails at starving trolls, poke young apes with a sharp stick to piss off its mother and many other disturbing things
I did one [of several(!)] torture quest until the guy spilled the beans.
Man was that needler fun to use. I stayed there and zapped him at least another 5 minutes. The Dalaran mage that put me to the task left the tower in tears.
Actually, I forgot what he said and why I even tortured him. What a great game!
Next up - The Scat in the Hat, Digging Through Poo! It's stanktastic.

Re:glaring ambiguity in your post
what are the 'glaring holes' in professions ? holes for what ?
Tailoring, Leatherworking, Blacksmithing, and Engineering should have high level (BoP) armor sets, but none of them do. This wowhead search is for all BoP crafted items over level 78, as as you can see, there is not a single level 80 item in the list!
Crafting isn't the only glaring holes in this game. PVP armor from battlegrounds is completely missing too. You can spend hours farm honor and marks, but there is nothing to buy with them other than worthless battle potions
:(I'm a big fan of the game, but any review that gives the expansion 9/10 is just trying to avoid confrontation. Once a game has more than 10 million subscribers, it would be suicide to give a negative review!

Re:Glaring holes?
I can see one hole in leatherworking, which is rather annoying. The set items which I make are usually replaced at a rate faster than they can be used.
For example, early in the new content a leatherworker can create several different leather and mail sets. In order for a character to use all of the pieces of those sets, he needs to be level 74 (Example: Iceborne Helm). By that level, you have probably already spent some time in instances and hopefully won a few gear drops, which replace those set pieces. It's quite possible to be putting together such a set, only to have a piece, which you can't even wear yet, already outclassed by something you picked up off a boss, which you can wear.
It's not that I would want to see the drops get nerfed, but it would be nice for those set items to become usable sooner. Granted, this is not a new problem to WotLK, but it is still a problem which would be nice to see addressed. -

Closed Beta Raiders kill Live content? No wai...
This story is not news.
TwentyFifthNovember is a guild made up of Nihilum and SK-Gaming (aka Curse). Both guilds had members that experienced Naxxramas at level 60 (when it was originally released), and most of the bosses in Naxxramas (retuned and re-released for level 80) are largely unchanged since that time. Both of these guilds had very significant presences in the Closed Beta, where this raid content was available for anyone who could gather enough players. Many of them killed these bosses for weeks and months, before the game went live. The slight differences between these bosses at level 60 versus these bosses at level 80 is minor enough that even those who DIDN'T see the retuned content would still know how to get past it.
Raiding in World of Warcraft is more about skill than gear (although there are a few hard gear checks, such as needing 8.5k HP to survive Naj'entus area-effect nuke). These guys certainly are skillful, but there was never any doubt that they would steamroll all of this content as soon as they hit 80. The slightly bigger concern is that they managed to get 25 members to level 80 in ~65 hours of gameplay. Still, with the first 80 after 27 hours, it wasn't unexpected. People were hitting level 70 in Burning Crusade in about the same amount of time, and once the strategy for doing so was optimized, anyone (with a lot of time, and/or friends) could grind out the levels.
One thing to note is that these guys don't yet have the ultra-rare achievement awards, for example:
http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=2138Heroic Glory of the Raider involves a series of moderate to very hard challenges in Naxx, with the reward being an exclusive Proto-Drake mount. Until they get that, it's not news.. and even if they do get that, they've STILL got the qualifiers mentioned earlier.

Re:want tanks? fix blacksmithing
Uhm, purples with green "of defense" shoulders? Hopefully you didn't need that to become uncrittable, otherwise here are some good alternatives :
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29316 - Quest Reward from CoT
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=27739 - Drop in Botanica
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=30291 - Quest reward in Netherstorm
Or just do gruul's once a week and pray for the t4 drop.

Savory Deviate Delight
Yarrrrrr! Snack lasts 30 minutes. You also have a slight chance of becoming a ninja.

Re:wow,big mistake.
1) Don't let anyone mine/pick anything that there skill level makes gray to them.
You obviously haven't raided much. The repair bot requires adamantite bars, which among other places comes from Adamantite Deposit, grey at level 70.
2) put some random drift into movement.
You ever been to barrens? Ever done barrens without autorun?
3) limit the price you can sell something for on the AH to 10 times what a vendor would pay
Then you'll have to nerf gold rewards from quests, loot, dailies etc and hence accomplish nothing but removing a couple of zeroes from everything.
4) don't allow the transfer of more then 100GP a time. Maybe a one time unlimited amount per month.
Let's skim the surplus and divert it to the orphanage
All of these would be pretty trivial to implement.
Just like linked auction houses, cross-realm battlegrounds, character transfers, pve->pvp transfers and so on.

Re:Age of Conan much more interesting.
Mark of Conquest was a great Hunter item for long fights, at least back before I stopped playing. Dunno what it's considered now.
Of course, that was practically the *only* world pvp item worth anything.

Re:Probably Not Stupid.
Do the later quests get scripted results at all?
The Burning Crusade quests, generally, have more quests with some kind of scripted result at the end (like the one where if you fail, a big robot beats up a town). Of course, there's still a good number that are "kill ten mobs. -

Why not use a foot pedal?
I have been looking for a usb type of button I could hit with my feet. This would be great to activate voice chat in games such as WoW that require keyboard and mouse attention at the same time. I would also love to activate an ability like War Stop with my foot. This would be very helpful in things like Arena, where time is sensitive. However, all the ones I found are quite expensive. I just need a single button I could map a key to and hit with my foot.

Send in the clones. The reason Wowhead is, in my opinion, the best WoW database around is the quality, depth and range of the content followed by the actual design of the site. Compare it to Alla's/Thottbot's/etc hideous design and swollen out-dated information, filled with crap comments, spam and overloaded with adverts. It's a bit like how Google was a few years ago compared to Yahoo and Alta Vista.
This sale is probably a bad thing, in terms of quality of the site as it currently stands. Thottbot was used to launch that
.ani vulnerability a while back too. I expect more adverts, changes in the design to accommodate more adverts, a flood of new users filling it with crap and spam just like all the other sites...Still, not bad money for what is essentially a pretty front-end to content other people have created for you! What a shame that something about the whole deal just seems...suspicious. The press release is cringeworthy - full of "We're sure these guys are HIP and COOL!" and "We'd NEVER do anything EVIL! We're not GOOGLE!" crud.

Yeah, as everyone knows, Mining brings you Engineering...
And Engineering brings you the Zapthrottle Mote Extractor and Ultra-Spectropic Detection Goggles, which allow you to extract Motes of Life, which combined can form Primal Life.
The good news, you obviously have enough of a life to be ignorant of this. The bad news, I obviously don't. -
