Chris is currently indisposed and can't reply to your post at the moment.
Granny PottyMouth has just revealed to Chris (see https://slashdot.org/comments....) that most of the views on our YouTube channels were caused by one of her employee using her click-bots.
She says she instructed him to stop immediately and what she says must be true since the views stopped on our channel and we have only 12 views since last week on our latest video "How to Pronounce The New Apple iPhone XR, XS & XS Max (September 2018)". Note that the pronunciation might change in December so make sure to keep watching our channel!

Re:Nope
Same here for me buddies! Nope!
My iPhone 6S, (pronounced "sexes") has a clock on it, why would I need an iWatch? I watch enough stuff already
:)I still use my iPhone 6s and reduce my monthly bill from $80 to $50. As a phone and a video camera, the iPhone 6s isn't obsolete and I use it to make my videos on youtube. As a Sprint very special customer for 20+ years, Sprint will always give me a new iPhone for free if I decide to stop using the 6s as a phone in the next several years.
I use PhotoShop daily!
I have a hearing loss in one ear, so my audio will always be suspect. I use a Zoom H2 audio recorder with a pop filter 12" away from my mouth, Audacity to clean up and normalize the audio, and sync the audio to the video and apply a "voice enhancement" eq to the audio in the video editor.
My PC has an eight-core processor and a Nvidia 1050 Ti 4GB video card. A minute of 1080p video renedered on the processor takes a minute. A minute of 1080p video renedered on the Nvidia card takes 10 seconds. I don't think an iPad has the same performance of my PC for renedering videos longer than a short clip.
I can't imagine using Photoshop without a keyboard and mouse, or not being able to access my files from my file server. Video renedering on the iPad will probably suck donkey balls.
Blackmagic also charges high prices for their gear as Apple does. Need an HDMI to USB3 capture device? Blackmagic is $300. Any generic company is $50.
I take public transit. A local bus take me down the street to pick up the express bus, the express bus drops me off in Palo Alto, and a local bus take me down the street to my job. An hour each way. Driving through Palo Alto during rush hour is insane. Since I work in government I.T., I start work at 7:00AM.
For a final project in Small Group Communications, my four Vietnamese classmates appointed me to do all the work and be the speaker because I was white. So I did all the work and spoke in front of the class. Our instructor, a black woman, gave me all their credit for the assignment and forced them to retake the class. They screamed "white privilige" all the way to administration and their complaint landed on deaf ears. They couldn't prove that they did anything to merit a grade and cheerleading from the back of the room doesn't count.
The background file for my national security clearance got stolen by the Chinese a few years ago That contained a lot more information than the credit reports that Uncle Sam requested from all three bureaus.
I plan to be able to retired in 2020. I told you creimertards how to do it but no, you were to smart to listen!
I find AmazonTM the gretest thing since sliced bread and helps taking care of my health at retirement with the Amazon long tail revenue streams!
All you need to do is find a website with a permissive TOS, say, Slashdot, create a Python script to scrape your own comments, sprinkle Amazon affiliate links in various posts, and then re-post past links whenever possible. You can even make video of yourself going to pick up AmazonTM parcel at the convenience store and post it on your youtube channel for more redundant revenue streams.
They also have a wide supply, the best of lattes, clif/power bars and microwave popcorn at the best cost, espicially if you make a friend buy them for you with your own affiliate link!

Re:Apple is trying to reverse the trend
Every now and then Apple does take a step back and work towards making things smaller and faster instead of just newer.
Apple said something during their keynote last week that stuck with me afterwards, mostly because it was so unexpected.
Towards the end of the keynote, they had their VP for environmental and social issues up on stage to talk about how things were going (i.e. the part of the keynote I usually tune out of, since it's rare they ever say anything new). After reiterating that they've now completed the transition to running all of their facilities on 100% renewable energy (i.e. no energy credits), they turned to the topic of what their next initiative will be. Here's the relevant quote (emphasis mine) from that part of the keynote:
We hope to one day eliminate our need to mine new materials from the earth. Now, as you can imagine, this is a massive effort. So, to reach that goal, we have to do three things.
First, we have to find new ways to make our products with recycled or renewable materials that are sourced responsibly. Then we'll have to ensure that our products last as long as possible. And then finally, after a long life of use, we have to ensure that they're recycled properly.
And then about a minute later she expands on that second point:
Second, we also make sure to design and build durable products that last as long as possible. That means long-lasting hardware coupled with our amazing software. All of these devices [images of iPhone 5s through iPhone X displayed on screen], including the iPhone 5s, run iOS 12, and iOS 12 is designed to make your iPhone and iPad experience even better, even more responsive, faster...just better! And because they last longer, you can keep using them, and keeping using them is the best thing for the planet.
To say the least, hearing an executive of a major consumer products company say something that was so blatantly anti-consumerism on a stage caught me by surprise. Here's a major company saying that they want people to NOT buy their products because their customers are using their products for longer instead of buying new ones. And then they backed that statement up by releasing a software update a few days later that improved speeds on all of their oldest still-supported devices. I was skeptical of their claims about iOS 12's improvements, but I've actually become a beneficiary of it, since my iPhone 5s from 2013 is markedly faster with the just-released iOS 12, enough so that I ditched my plans to upgrade this year and instead decided to stick with the 5s for yet another year.

Re:Camera? Or Photoprocessing?
Processing depends on what your goals are "out of the box". You can apply a noise filter, up edge sharpness, increase the saturation to make things more vivid, etc.... but you can also do that in post. On the other hand, such filtering can throw out real details and is not always desirable. On the opposite end of the spectrum, unfiltered HDR images can look washed out and grainy, but you'll get the best results if you use them as a starting point for further processing.
A good comparison between heavy filtering and low filtering can be seen here in this comparison between the same plant shot in low light conditions between the Note 9 (heavy filtering) and the XZ2 Premium (low filtering). The leaves on the Note 9 look "prettier", all smooth from being filtered out. Yet you can hardly see any real details on them like the veins - indeed, on the XZ2, on the large upper leaves you can even see secondary veins in the leaves. The Note 9's filtering also at times smooths together different leaves (not seeing enough of a contrast between them to treat them as separate objects), but the differences are all distinct in the XZ2.
So the real question is... do you want filters, or real detail? And honestly there is no single "one choice is best for everyone" answer.
(Also beware of "smoothness due to dragging out the exposure" issues... note the difference in the fountains between these two shots)

Just ordered a Sony XZ2 Premium the other day.
Love its camera setup. Like many modern phones, there's an extra camera on the back, but rather than being telephoto or wide angle or the like, it's greyscale, and designed solely for getting intensity values in low light. So they maximize the light data for a given amount of sensor area, and then correlate it to the color data from the primary camera.
While the benefit is nice in still pictures, it really shines in motion. Some great comparisons here.
Also like how the phone doesn't try to make still shots look better by running everything through sharpness filters and upping the saturation. It gives you something much closer to raw data so you can choose how to present it. Its 920 fps 1080p slow motion is really impressive, too.

Re:Other major investment in Silicon Valley
creimer has decided to invest in producing video material for pedophiles and sex tourists!
That's funny. Last summer you photoshopped my contact info on pictures of naked Russian schoolboys and reposted those pictures on Russian websites. This summer you accuse me of being a pedophile and had all your pedobear buddies from Ukraine, Brazil and Colombia (known sex tourist hot spots) watch my video for 25 hours over four days. That says more about you than me.
How long will it be before you do the right thing and take that video off line?
If you believe my video violate YouTube community guidelines, report the video.

If your MEPs or these various committee chairs are malfeasant, there's exactly FUCK-ALL you can do about it. You have ZERO redress.

Exactly right, for a final project in Small Group Communications, my four Vietnamese classmates appointed me to do all the work and be the speaker because I was white. Re:Heinlein's "Fair Witness"
... And our memories are not nearly as accurate as they feelReminds me of this witness memory demo on youtube. IMHO, the problem of synthesized eyewitness videos will, to paraphrase JBS Haldane or Arthur Eddington, eventually lead to trouble that will not be just worse than we imagine, but worse than we can imagine.

Pictures don't lie.
Way back when, when we first had cameras, that was the saying. Because it was really hard to make a convincing "wrong" photo. (Early: One, Two, Three, Four.
And then came along tape, and audio editing, and auto-tune and computerized voice editing. And Hatsune Miku, who not only doesn't exist, her VOICE doesn't even exist: She was created by taking vocal samples [which] all contain a single Japanese phonic that, when strung together, creates full lyrics and phrases. Video. The people with glowing green sticks, though, are real.
And now with movies have placed people's heads on other's bodies, never mind body-doubles. The trick is that's it's becoming better, cheaper and more widespread to create. (And I *SWEAR* that people are more gullible now-a-days than they used to be. Or maybe it's because things just move so much faster.) So we're back to a century or so ago: just because there's an audio/video of it, doesn't mean it's HAS to be true.
No worries though, since you're innocent until proven guilty, which has worked so well with MeToo and everything else in the last few years. We'll all just have to have a 2-way shoulder mounted camera that does a real-time blockchain video feed to verify where we are all of the time and that it's really is US in the video.
Now if blockchain would only run at Visa-level transaction speeds instead of a slow 8mm Movie Motion Picture Camera. Oh, and that's 7 BitCoin transactions system-wide and not just per camera. The limit for Litecoin is 56 TPS and the limit for Bitcoin is 7. Visa: 24,000 TPS (Link. And far be it your mounted camera loses WiFi/Cell connection or runs out of power. -
How the EU works.
Give it a watch.
-
Lot of stuff on that list is wrong anyway
- The first phone with an on-screen keyboard was the LG Prada (introduced a few months before the iPhone). In fact it was the first capacitive touchscreen phone, not the iPhone as widely believed.
- Here's pinch to zoom in 1988.
- Android had whole device search before Apple. But Apple was first to file for, and got the patent (Google apparently didn't think the idea was patentable). Google removed it from Android when Apple began using the patent to sue.
- Digital cameras had an orientation sensor to detect if a photo was taken in portrait or landscape mode, and would display the photo as such (which creates the annoying problem where you take a photo in portrait mode, but want to view it in landscape mode - the device won't let you do it because it keeps flipping the photo's playback orientation).
- While Apple pushed screens past 300 PPI, Android was actually the one which started the high-res craze. The original iPhone was only 163 PPI. The first Galaxy S was 233 PPI. And things began climbing from there. So picking 300 PPI as a threshold is extremely arbitrary. Apple was constrained to doubling the screen resolution (163 PPI to 326 PPI) due to limitations in iOS' design. Android's design allows variable screen size to resolution ratios, so its PPI climbed gradually as manufacturers pushed out higher and higher res screens.
- Spell checkers are far, far older than phones. I remember seeing the squiggly line underneath spelling errors in the late 1990s.
- Not sure why Apple is credited with multitasking cards. iOS multitasking initially wasn't true multitasking - only certain functions (like music playback) were allowed to continue running when an app was in the foreground. Outside of those functions, iOS would basically task-switch, not multi-task (continue to run the program in the background). Android had true multitasking from the get-go, killing tasks in FIFO order as the device ran out of RAM.
- Cut, copy, paste is credited to Android in the list. But Apple introduced those concepts with the original Macintosh in the 1980s (though they probably lifted the idea from Xerox PARC).
- The dock was introduced with NextSTEP way back in 19888. Though to be fair, Jobs was a co-founder of the company (probably some low-rank grunt developer came up with the idea).
- Portrait photos (using two lenses to determine distance and blurring the background) was something I predicted way back in the 1990s when digital point and shoot cameras first began coming out. I'm sure I wasn't the first one to think of it either. It's an obvious idea if you understand how an interferometer works. You realize you don't need an entire circular lens to create the blur, you can simulate it with just two physical points on opposite sides of a virtual lens.
- Pay-by-phone was available in Korea (primarily with Samsung's phones since they had NFC first) way back in 2011. Apple was just the first to introduce the function in the U.S.
- You could do WiFi calls on both devices using a SIP app long before they began adding the capability to your phone's dailer. In particular, Sprint partnered with Google Voice in 2011 - your Sprint number became your Google Voice number, allowing you to make and receive calls from your phone number over cellular, WiFi, or cellular data. This was years before the 2014 "innovation" date listed in the spreadsheet.

Re:Still Nokia features left to copy
The list of Apple achievements is vastly exaggerated as well and reads like an Applefan made it.
Many manufacturers had designs in prototype that looked similar to Apple's first iPhone design. This was shown in the Apple vs Samsung court proceedings, but the LG Prada phone has the distinction of being the first phone to have the now standard capacitive touchscreen focused design.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
It also had auto-rotate and apps-on-a-Home-page design. It didn't have an on-screen keyboard at launch because the designers worried the capacitive touchscreen did not have the resolution to handle it. Earlier hand-held devices have had on-screen touch keyboards, such as those made by Palm and Nokia, so Apple was not the first there either.
"Lists that scroll as though with momentum" is simply scroll acceleration which has been a part of nearly every major OS since at least 1996.
The idea of Pinch Zoom and object manipulation has been around since 1983 and integrated into many devices since.
https://youtu.be/d4DUIeXSEpk?t...
So, the list generated by the submitter from the article isn't accurate nor is most of the list in the article either. If you don't specifically compared Apple, Google and Samsung, most of the accomplishments disappeared entirely.
If you boil off all accomplishments that appeared in earlier designs from other hand-held devices, you really only have one actual accomplishment that had never been done (Public transit in Maps) and it was from the web platform behind the phone, not the phone itself.
I understand the average fanboy wants to compare their favorite against others to make themselves feel better about their decisions, but if most of these fans had a decent computer science history lesson they'd see most of these devices are a conflagration of many ideas from all kinds of sources and nothing actually novel in themselves.
The only thing I find amazing in all of this is the fact such a large set of devices are running open-source code now (Android), which will become even more amazing when more devices have firmware built on Oreo or later (Project Treble).
Sadly, this is not a movement I think Apple will ever join.

Re:Foreigner Series by C.J. Cherryh
After reading several books although my reading comprehension is near zero, I plan to be able to retired in 2020.
They also have a wide supply, the best of latte and clif/power bars at the best cost, espicially if you make a friend buy them for you with your own affiliate link!
Also, I still use my iPhone 6s and reduce my monthly bill from $80 to $50.
A minute of 1080p video rendered on the Nvidia card takes 10 seconds. I don't think an iPad has the same performance of my PC for rendering videos longer than a short clip.
I can't imagine using Photoshop without a keyboard and mouse, or not being able to access my files from my file server. Video rendering on the iPad will probably suck donkey balls.

I read 18 volumes of C.J. Cherryh's Foreigner [wikipedia.org] series in 54 days. That's about ~7,000 pages. A fast paced story that never bogs down about aliens, first contact and languages. Volume 19 just came out but I haven't read it yet.

Re:Waiting for thunderf00t
Thunderf00t has done a great job debunking all of Teslas terrible ideas, and he has already started on the Boring company and how terrible their plans are.
Thunderf00t has not actually criticized Tesla itself. He's done a lot of videos in the absurdity of the Hyperloop as a non-viable thing due to the enginerring (and cost) problems for example here, here (a video where he actually traveled to the Hyperloop test-site to showcase the sub-par engineering work done with the track (it's already rusted through for example)) and here (a video he made in response to the backlash to the previous video). And he also did an video earlier this year about this tunnel stuff and its problems here as well as a video on the absurdity of Musk's idea of using rockets to travel 'Earth to Earth' here.
Musk's thing is that he has a lot of ideas as well as the capital to try and test some of them. Sometimes they're successful, sometimes they're not, but thanks to Tesla and SpaceX the man is now treated in the media as if he is Midas and everything coming from him must be 'the way of the future', but that's not really the case. Personally I don't expect the Hyperloop to become a reality ever just due to the cost-factors involved, that is, it's not that with enough money you couldn't potentially build a Hyperloop that worked,. but that building and securely maintaining one would likely be so costly that it'd make no sense, and the same problems are faced by this tunnel idea. With Musk the question is not primarily whether it's it's possible technically, it's whether or not it's economically feasible as a solution.
