Re:As a formerly registered "sex offender"...
Most jobs are obtained through networking.
No social media presence is bad for job seekers.
Watch this Moxie Marlinspike talk from 9m-13m. Replace "cell phone" with "social media." That's the problem in a nutshell: you can CHOOSE not to have a cell phone or a social media account, but that choice is also a choice not to participate in society.
It's great for you (and only you) that you already have a nice job where you are kept busy and live happily. It's great that you're old enough to have been able to cultivate a network without using any social media other than Slashdot. The real world left your kind behind a long time ago. Your logic is the same logic used by people who think that most poor people are exclusively poor because they choose to be lazy and entitled. Because things COULD be even worse, you say that things must be fine and the person shouldn't complain. Followed to its natural conclusion your position is "you're not dead so you shouldn't complain."
The only rational response to people who think the way you think about the plight of others is "fuck you, asshole." -

BZZZT. Thanks for Playing.
1. C++ has become such over-engineered bloated crap that even the committee members themselves admit that they only uses a sub-set of it
2. This is the same committee that officially recognizes iostreams' performance is shit. When a committee member admits "... fixing iostreams which I hate in all its forms." you know something is rotten in Denmark.
3. The C++ committee is so far out of touch with reality that they wanted to add a 2D graphics API Cairo to the language.
/sarcasm Gee, if only we had a cross-platform graphics library that has been around for 20+ years. Oh WAIT, we already do -- let's ignore OpenGL and invent Yet-Another-Standard that no one gives a fuck about.4. When are modules coming again???
5. Bjarne Stroustrup was so far out-of-touch with modern hardware of the L1 cache that he was surprised to learn that doubly linked lists give shitty cache usage.

Re:Ban all cars
if you are wanting to take yourself out, you'll take yourself out, doesn't matter the method
FWIH this is probably not true, but:
1. I don't care.
2. More specifically, the way that I care is that they are suffering so badly they hurt literally worse than death. Preventing them from dying so they can continue suffering is a sick form of torture, and talking yourself into it with this "probably a momentary fit of emotion" stuff when you have no idea what it feels like is a type of pollyanaish self-delusion that disgusts me, and the license to be controlling people grant themselves when on a mission to stop someone else's suicide frightens me.
3. Not only do they totally deny the agency of the person in pain, they're willing to ramrod their intervention over bystanding gun users, claiming it justifies gun-grabbing. There are important reasons to keep guns, like to start a revolution or fight an occupation. Reason or not, you simply can't have them: you will literally start a revolution if you try to take them. I don't own a gun, but it's irresponsible in an entitled, petulant, disingenuous way to make smug flippant policy suggestions that would be exceedingly dangerous to implement.
4. There are other ways of addressing gun suicides, even if you want to do it in the torturous way, of keeping the suicidal person alive no matter how much they're suffering rather than making them feel better.

Re:And?
The only difference here is that Trump isn't a normal politician and may have some racist or at least anti-Muslim views
According to this CNN link , the six countries on the travel ban were Sudan, Libya, Iran, Yemen, Somalia, and Syria. All of them have either extremely poor security situations with rampant domestic terrorism and active insurgencies, or in Iran's case an extremely antagonistic relationship with the US government and Israel (which has major lobbying power in the US). These countries are 10% of the world Muslim population. They are also some of the most dangerous and active conflict zones in the world today, and possess training environments for the radicalization of second-generation immigrants in Europe to turn into terrorists.
You know what countries AREN'T on Trump's travel ban? Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Nigeria, Turkey, and Egypt. Combined they are home to 56.7% of the world's Muslims, and while some of them have security problems and active jihadi insurgencies, they also have more robust security apparatuses.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
So is Trump really anti-Muslim, or simply enacting pre-emptive security measures and risk avoidance?
In comparison, his erstwhile opponent in the Presidential race voted in favor of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The collapse of security in Iraq in 2003 is STILL costing Muslim lives to this day due to ISIS, which even a conservative estimate would place in the high hundreds of thousands of fatalities 2003-2017. This is also the same woman who **LAUGHED** about the overthrow and extra-judicial lynching of a Muslim head of state (Qaddafi). https://youtu.be/UtH7iv4ip1U
So I'm just curious if you also consider Hillary Clinton to be a racist anti-Muslim? Or is it just Trump? -

Re:Who copied who?
WeChat pay predates Facebook Messenger's payment system, and is much more advanced. It's actually more like PayPal, but if your PayPal account was also your instant messenger account and your social media account...
I've noticed that some western products are starting to copy cost reduction features that Chinese companies first started using too. One example would be running everything from USB power. As well as the connectors being cheap it means they can get a standard PSU at extremely low cost, or just omit the PSU entirely because people likely already have a dozen of the things.
In any case, a lot of former US brands are Chinese now. For example, Skil, makers of the SKILSAW that "build America", is Chinese owned. If you look carefully at their current products, there are clear signs of them adopting some Chinese cost reduction innovations in areas where it isn't likely to affect longevity or performance. This video (NSFW language!) shows it in detail: https://youtu.be/G6fJ8xFDYSM

Stupid but effective
TBH, laptops aren't something you should travel with anyway. All of your data and personal info is at risk anytime you connect to a hotel wifi. I never travel with my computer or use a public computer with any personal info, logins/passwords...etc.
Even traveling with your phone is a bad idea now that it can be 100% copied by gov'ts as you go through airports. Just lock all your electronic stuff up at home and unplug for a vacation.
If you're traveling on business none of your own personal stuff should be on there anyway and insurance would cover the loss of any laptop from damage during checking it in. Good network policy means all your data on that laptop would be effectively backed up on your company servers so the hardware is essentially disposable.
We're at a kind of transition point for electronics anyway. Pretty soon we'll become very untethered from devices and be able to use our own information safely from anywhere without it getting compromised.
However, this untethering is not something that will happen effectively until companies learn to place significant importance on customer satisfaction, security and safety. Most companies are stuck in a cycle of beefing up their profit by cutting the customer experience down... and that's very short sighted.
If I had to travel for business today, I'd get disposable tech and use a thumb drive with a kill switch built into it like this:

You should watch this video, which does a better job covering this than I could. For one thing, it points out (at 13:28) that our top 30 most common jobs, covering almost half the workforce, actually did exist 100 years ago (and it's not like the next 30 jobs are all new either).

Illiac is mentioned in the article. The main thing here is that people are actually paying for full-length auto-generated songs as background music for youtube videos, etc. You can hear an example of it in the background here. It's not much, just like white noise except a little more sophisticated.

Re:or h-1bs
Saving yes I agree debt is a freaking problem! I listen to Dave Ramsey and this rant was shocking!
To summarize funny video:
1. 85% of all car sales were financed
2. 1/3 of those were subprimed! Meaning 10% to 24% interest!Mellinials prefer BMWs as the most preferred car leased of course which is hard to believe.
Besides no one wanting to be seen with a beater car I think if you make so little with the high cost of living that you need to cut back to save means you are not ready for a house. Think about it?
A new roof? $10,000. Garage door open breaks? $2,500. AC goes out? $7,000 etc. What you think your rant about not going to Starbucks and buying Nikes every month will save enough for these unfortunate expenses?? I got into an argument with a co-worker who is trying to make me feel bad he is about to get a home with his grin.
... the dude is so broke he didn't have have AC in his car for 6 months. He is buying an auctioned foreclosed house. I asked him how he plans to repair the roof or buy an AC if it's been stolen? So it's 2 fold. Too much debt and shitty $15/he jobs which corporate America loves as even senior level positions HR wants less than 5 years experience so they can pay less. Combined with a 100% increase in rent and home prices since 2011 and mellinials are shit up the creek.
It's a mess. But Lord help you if you buy a home and don't have $20,000 in cash for emergencies? Saving on small things won't get you that. You need to earn more and for heaven sakes don't buy new SUVs!

Re: Shouldn't be punishable anyway
In a previous speech he outed a Trans girl - leading to such severe abuse, harassment and threats she was forced to drop out of college- the fucker destroyed her future.
This did not happen. The person was already graduated. And the purpose of showing the photo was not to harass. The individual had made use of Title IX to gain access to the women's locker room, while looking entirely like a man in a dress. Here's the video of the speech already cued up to the portion in question.
This is the problem. You don't actually know what you're talking about, so you're fine with not just inciting, but committing violence when you don't even understand the facts of the case.
Look at that video. Do you think that speech justifies a beating, fire, vandalism, chemical spray?
If so, then this is very, very bad, and yes, is exactly how freedom dies. "If I can label you as a neo-nazi I can use violence against you." Kind of gives someone an incentive to label people you don't like as neo-nazis, doesn't it? Two can play at this game. "If I can label you a marxist then I can throw you out of a helicopter." Doesn't sound so great, does it?
Maybe we should just swear off violence instead, and listen to what people have to say and then argue with them?
