If you don't like Apple's terms of service, file format, and pricing, don't partake. Your bitching about it isn't going to change anything. You're just wasting bandwidth.
I think its all about metabolism. I do all of the cooking for my household, because my wife can burn Kool-Aid. I cook with olive oil, real butter, pork fat, duck fat, etc.
I eat whatever I want to and I'm still a relatively thin guy who is staring 35 in the face. I find this surprising considering that I sit in front of computers all day for a living.
I suppose it all comes down to genetics and metabolism. Of course, I could die tomorrow of a heart attack. Inject that mayonnaise directly into my arteries, please.
I eat a Big Mac about every three months. When I eat it I wonder why it's been three months since I had one, but after finishing I know why it's been so long. Have you seen the documentary Super Size Me ?
All of the trailers I have seen on televison recently make the movie seem like an action flick. In keeping with the spirit of the book, I think this clearly isn't the case. However, the trailer I saw before Sin City last night, actually made the movie seem like more of a comedy. Is this just a case of marketing to different demographics? For instance, the audience for Sin City is most likely into comics, sci fi, etc. and will already know what the book and movie are about. However, the average schlub watching televsion will have no idea, so the trailer tries to draw them with lots of explosions. Is this indeed the case?
I guess I fall into both categories, so I will be there for the humor and the explosions. ; )
I'm speaking as a Macintosh user since 1988, Windows user since 1993, and Linux user since 1997. Take the following with a grain of salt and not an attempt to start a flame war.
Apple, too, implements proprietray standards. The Macintosh and OS X pairing is proprietary. So too are the iPod and iTunes marriage.
Both Sony and Apple have been accused of selling proprietary and over priced hardware. Of course, every company wants to control their market. That's how they pay their stockholders.
I guess that I don't understand your argument as to why Sony will fail in this endeavor when Apple has, for the most part, succeeded in locking down their hold on the music downloading business. Apple already did that which Sony is supposedly trying to accomplish.
Erasing or otherwise formatting a hard drive doesn't do any good to eradicate personal information. I've used these guys on numerous occasions to successfully recover data from hard drives that have been formatted, imaged, etc.
If you're going to sell a computer, swap out the drive containing your data for a new one. They're cheap. Hold onto the drive that houses your data.
Your songs will live and die on that iPod like a caged animal and your investment will forever be tied to Apple's largesse--and the life-span of your iPod.
Don't ever quite [sic] (read it twice) unless you have something else in line.
While you would think this is conventional wisdom, I have to disagree based on my own experience.
I quit a job on May 15th, 2001 four days before I was getting married. I had been with the company for four years. I was employee #1. However the situation had deteriorated so badly that we were no longer a couple of guys trying to have fun, change the graphic arts industry, and make some money. The guys who started the company were no longer my friends. They turned corporate fairly quickly once the company grew and expanded operations.
I had had enough and quit. Incidentally, I was supposed to be on a plane that day to do a job. They had me returning the day before my wedding. That was the last straw.
My wife and I married and went to Europe for a couple of weeks. When we returned, I made some calls to old friends and employers and secured enough freelance work to bring in a good amount of money for the two months it took me to find another job.
I found my dream job and couldn't be happier.
I guess different things work for different people.
If IE wasn't so full of holes, MS wouldn't need a malware removal tool. Maybe they should fix the problem instead of selling to the world a fix for the problem they created in the first place. This is like somebody giving you the flu and then offering to sell you a flu vaccine.

Seriously, though, it's just that I spent a lot of time studying Carroll's work in graduate school. It's such wonderful stuff that my nerves stand on end when folks refer to it as "Alice in Wonderland."
I did not intent to offend anyone. Correcting this frequent misconception is a personal crusade of mine.
Do you mean that you would like to see Burton remake "Alice in Wonderland," the Disney hatchet-job? No thanks! Personally I would like to see Burton make "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There," which are two brilliant books by Lewis Carroll, the pseudonym of Charles L. Dogson. Perhaps you've heard of them?
Maybe I'm lucky, but my boss never skimps on the training budget. In fact, he often has to push my colleagues and me out the door, because we're "too busy" for training. He downright insists on training. I work at a small, private university so maybe this is a rare case.
Enlighten the guy who holds your purse strings about the ROI for training. Do some surfing and find some numbers and statistics. The folks who control the money understand that.
It has been my experience that toddlers are equally adept at destroying VHS tapes. Once they either inadvertently or intentionally press that little button on the side and flip up the "guard," they find no end to the enjoyment of pulling all of that tape out of the cassette and onto the floor.
My hovel for a mod point. You nailed it. I just wish some of of guys and girls (young women, women, etc. to avoid being politically incorrect) with insight would stop posting as ACs. If you have an opinion, you should be willing to stand for it.
I have two words for you: fucking whiner.

Any chance that MS will actually pay any attention to the research being done there in this field?
Maybe they should kill off Clippy, that damned cat, and the others of their ilk. How distracting are they?
