How could you possibly study this scientifically? Prayer is so much more than a pass/fail operation. It affects not only the state of mind for the object, but for the source as well. I don't see how you could start to quantify the Goodness of praying for someone.
If it makes one or both parties feel better, then it is a Good Thing, regardless of the action/inaction of the Higher Power.

It is true that downloading copyrighted material using bittorrent is illegal... As is downloading it using FTP, or HTTP, or Carrier Pigeon, or any other means...
How about polite cell phone users? Turn the ringer off if you are somewhere it would be inappropriate. Don't talk on your phone where it would be disruptive to the others around you. If people have to turn to an engineering solution as a substitute to common sense and courtesy, then we have bigger problems than annoying cell phones.
