Nice HOWTO, but extremely daunting for the typical user. Any chance you could post an iso of the final, properly configured Gentoo + MythTV distribution, with exact system requirements? All of this text file editing scares most users away.
I would have chosen the 140/170 instead of the 100. The 100 was a one-time design that was never used again, made by Sony. The 140/145/150/160/165/170/180 was a design that redefined portable computing and was available for years.
All good points. This is why there should not be a municipal monopoly on internet access. But that doesn't mean that a nonprofit set up by the city can't compete with the corporations and maybe offer better service options.
TiVo where I have access to what I record would be useful. As it stands, my old Series 1 has died and I am almost certainly going with MythTV or EyeTV (Mac) because I will have access to what I have recorded. DRM'd Tivo To Go is garbage.
But it's dirt cheap to offer, particularly if it's free to the user. Think of all the cafes that have wi-fi on a DSL line, total cost $50 a month plus $50 one time for the router. Surely municipalities should be able to do something like this in public buildings - obviously it's a little bit more expensive in larger spaces, but the order of magnitude is similar.
Now the experiment Philly is working on is quite different. Citywide wi-fi is a much bigger project. But this bill bans any municipal service, which is just stooooopid.
Raising the gas tax would be an excellent idea because it would provide an incentive to use hybrids and other efficient vehicles. As consumption declines (ha!) the rate should go up more.
Drivers of overweight, inefficient SUVs deserve whatever they get.
and generally accept copy protection. Best to make MythTV work well before Apple gets all the fanboys with iHDTV (Lets you keep the Sopranos a whole week!)

but this has GOT to be a duplicate.
anyone who would partner with this woman would have to keep his PC under lock and key. Probably not a tradeoff most slashdotters would accept.
Well, that's true. If you're dumb enough to install Gator, you're obviously stuck with spyware.
"TiVo: TV Our Way"
And if you don't run IE at all, no spyware.
And you should pay for the privilege.

what will the fanboys say?
if I just keep the damn thing on vibrate all the time? I hate those )(@#&@!#@!#& ringtones.
They renationalised and didn't tell anyone?

That is satisfying. Use Linky for Firefox to open ALL the links at once!
I think the NFL bans all gambling ads.

Buy me beer and I am very helpful. No beer, no virus scan.
But this guy ate his iPod shuffle.
Lame. I want a solar system shuffle.
I mean, come on. Has slashdot been living under a rock since the invention of the cash register?
Perhaps PublishAmerica is a very small shell script.
I wondered if that would work. post a HOWTO? or is there really no step two (unlike MythTV which is a lot of effort)?
